Chapter 260: A Try Wouldn't Hurt
“So, they ran,” Su Nan said with a slight sneer, observing the two Wizard Towers fleeing in disarray on the light screen within Starlight Wizard Tower.
Behind him, Lize could hardly conceal his joy, a sigh of relief escaping him.
The battle had progressed to this point, and the Star Alliance's victory was beyond doubt.
The sword hanging over their heads had finally disappeared.
At least, it had temporarily vanished.
But the war was not over; it was their turn to counterattack.
Lize looked at Su Nan, who had already issued the pursuit order.
Starlight Wizard Tower rapidly accelerated toward the retreating enemies, with the Tentacle Puppet and Secret Puppet close behind.
The Flying Fleet, on the other hand, remained behind to assist the Golem Legion and the Magic Knight Order in eliminating the Black Wolf.
[The main container of Energy has 4.29% remaining.]
“So much has been used? Activate the reserve Energy.”
[Reserve Energy activated. Remaining Energy increased to 54.29%.]
“Activate Disintegration Cannon Type II.”
[Command received.]
A thick, hazy gray ray shot out from the top of Starlight Wizard Tower, covering over two thousand meters in an instant and accurately striking the Night Shadow Wizard Tower!
Buzz!
The Energy Field surrounding Night Shadow Wizard Tower shattered instantly, its durability reaching zero. The remaining Disintegration Ray struck the tower as if a massive, invisible beast had taken a bite out of it, leaving a large chunk missing.
Immediately after, countless dense Cursed Rune Rays struck, tearing the Night Shadow Wizard Tower to shreds.
Night Shadow Wizard Tower soon met the same fate as the other Wizard Tower, crashing to the ground with smoke billowing from it.
“Damn it!”
Witnessing this scene, Youxi was filled with both anger and heartache.
In his three thousand years of accumulation, he had only managed to acquire five Wizard Towers, and now four of them had been destroyed. All his hard work over the millennia had gone to waste. At this moment, his heart was bleeding.
Even though he was seething with anger, Youxi dared not turn back to retaliate; instead, he had to quicken his escape.
However, he soon discovered that no matter how fast he ran, he could not distance himself from the Starlight Wizard Tower behind him. He remained within the range of their long-range fire.
The Cursed Rune Ray continued to bombard them incessantly, occasionally accompanied by a Disintegration Ray. The durability of Twilight Wizard Tower's Energy Field was visibly diminishing at an alarming rate.
[Warning! Energy Field durability is rapidly decreasing, remaining at 30%!]
[Warning! Energy Field durability is rapidly decreasing, remaining at 20%!]
[Warning! Energy Field durability is rapidly decreasing, remaining at 10%, entering a dangerous range!]
The warning from the Tower Spirit had barely finished when another Disintegration Ray struck the Energy Field, instantly reducing its durability to below 5%.
Seeing this, the group of Gloomy Throne Wizards could no longer remain still.
"How have their energies not been depleted yet? Even a Large Elemental Pool wouldn't have this much energy!"
"No! If this continues, Twilight Wizard Tower will definitely be destroyed!"
"Youxi, let’s abandon the tower!"
"That's right! As long as we return to the Wolf Tide Plane, we'll have time to regroup!"
Youxi's expression darkened.
After the retreat, now they had to abandon Twilight Wizard Tower?
This was his greatest asset besides the Wolf Tide Plane!
Without Twilight Wizard Tower, his standing within the Gloomy Throne would plummet, and he would spend thousands of years trying to recover.
However, in that brief moment of hesitation, the Energy Field of Twilight Wizard Tower finally reached its last shred of durability and completely dissipated.
In the distance, the top of Starlight Wizard Tower emitted a dazzling light, and a new wave of firepower was already building.
"Sir!" The Wizards cried out in desperation.
Youxi took a deep breath, gritted his teeth, and said in a low voice, "Abandon the tower!"
The others felt a wave of relief and quickly fled Twilight Wizard Tower.
The next second, a surge of light engulfed Twilight Wizard Tower. With a deafening rumble, the massive Wizard Tower, trailing smoke, crashed to the ground.
While Youxi and his twenty-odd Wizards transformed into streaks of light, fleeing towards the forest without looking back.
"How decisive," Su Nan chuckled, relentlessly pursuing them.
Youxi himself possessed formidable strength, and his Wizards were no slouches either, with several even at Second Level.
Even for a Spell Turret Type II, its power was too dispersed to pose much of a threat to these individuals.
Over the short distance of a few kilometers, the Starlight Wizard Tower managed to eliminate only four Level One Wizards. The remaining members had already escaped into the forest.
From above, a wide clearing could be seen nestled in the center of the dense forest. A massive Doorway, over fifty meters tall and more than twenty meters wide, stood in the clearing, with countless Black Wolves pouring out from behind it.
With a flash of light, Youxi and the others charged through the gate and disappeared.
"Plane Channel, is it?" Su Nan's gaze flickered slightly, and he immediately issued an order without hesitation, "Activate Plane Travel!"
[Remaining Energy is 5.29%. Insufficient for Plane Travel.]
Su Nan furrowed his brow slightly.
Unlike ordinary creatures that could enter other planes through a Plane Channel, a massive War Creation like the Wizard Tower could not pass through such channels and could only perform Plane Travel. However, doing so consumed a significant amount of Energy.
The recent bombardment had been too thorough, leaving them with insufficient Energy even for Plane Travel.
Lize suggested, "Let's wait a bit. The Plane Channel won't close for a while; we have plenty of time to wait for the army to advance and then counterattack the Wolf Tide Plane."
Su Nan shook his head. "If we do that, we'll definitely let them get away."
It was essential to cut off all roots. Only by eliminating all of those Wizards could he conquer the Wolf Tide Plane more effectively. Allowing the Controller of the Wolf Tide Plane to escape would only complicate the takeover process.
"You stay behind to guard the Wizard Tower and assist the Legion in countering the Wolf Tide Plane. I'll take the Witch Hunter Legion to pursue them."
Without much hesitation, Su Nan made his decision.
Lize was startled. "That's too dangerous!"
“Don’t worry,” Su Nan said. “If those guys had any other trump cards, they would have used them by now. Do you really think they could have predicted that I would chase them into the Wolf Tide Plane and set a trap specifically for me?”
Lize's expression faltered.
Normally, a wizard would indeed avoid chasing into the Wolf Tide Plane. Only someone with numerous trump cards and the audacity of Su Nan would dare to do so.
It was impossible for the Gloomy Throne's wizard to have anticipated this.
“...Be careful,” Lize finally conceded.
Su Nan smiled slightly, his figure vanishing instantly from the spot.
When he reappeared, he was already outside the Wizard Tower, transforming into a streak of light and disappearing into the Plane Channel.
Hundreds of Tentacle Puppets and Secret Puppets followed closely behind, rushing into the Plane Channel.
Lize suppressed her worries and took command of the battlefield, beginning to eliminate the Black Wolves.
She needed to push the front lines to the Plane Channel as quickly as possible and then launch a counterattack into the Wolf Tide Plane to assist Su Nan.
“Send the order for the wizards to take action.”
“The reserve Wyvern Knight troops will also mobilize.”
The war progressed much more smoothly than expected, with the Star Alliance not even needing to use all of their trump cards before repelling the Gloomy Throne.
It was clear that after several hundred years of development, the Star Alliance had accumulated even more power than she had imagined.
Returning to the familiar Wolf Tide Plane, all of the wizards, including Youxi, breathed a sigh of relief.
But soon, overwhelming dejection and bewilderment followed.
They had thought that this invasion of the Starlight Continent would be an effortless operation, an opportunity to gorge themselves, but who could have guessed it would end like this?
Not only were all five Wizard Towers destroyed, but the Twilight Wolves that they had painstakingly cultivated were now all dead.
Even the phrase “heavy losses” was insufficient to describe it!
Youxi glanced at his downcast subordinates; his own mood was equally grim, but he quickly collected himself and said in a deep voice:
“Now is not the time to let our guard down. The Star Alliance will attack very soon.”
"Joseph, go immediately and mobilize all the wolf packs of the Nest. Prepare for battle. The rest of you, follow me and close the Plane Channel at once!”
Having lost the Wizard Tower, Youxi could not allow the Wolf Tide Plane—his foundation—to suffer any losses. Otherwise, he would have no chance of turning things around in Gloomy Throne.
“Will the Wizard Tower of the Star Alliance join them?” someone asked with concern.
Youxi pondered for a moment before shaking his head. “Probably not. In the last few waves of attacks, the firepower of the Star Alliance's Wizard Tower was clearly diminished. Its energy is likely nearing depletion, and it may not have the capability for Plane Travel."
“Even if it somehow makes it through, it won't have much energy left. We can easily hold it off and wear it down slowly.”
Youxi secretly hoped that the Wizard Tower would follow. If he could capture it, he might recover some of his losses.
After Youxi spoke, everyone's expressions relaxed slightly.
But just then, a powerful surge of Energy Particle Fluctuations erupted from the Plane Channel.
The group turned in shock to see numerous figures rushing out.
They were the Squid Puppet and Humanoid Puppet.
What shocked them even more was that the leader was a human Wizard!
Youxi was momentarily stunned, then flew into a rage.
He had already been driven back to the Wolf Tide Plane by that Wizard Tower, and now they dared to come here alone with those Puppets? Did they think they were invincible?
“Are you all here? Good, that saves me the trouble of hunting you down one by one.”
His gaze swept over the crowd, landing on Su Nan, who wore a faint smile.
This contemptuous demeanor, which completely disregarded them, infuriated the Wizard of Gloomy Throne.
Youxi fixed a sinister glare on Su Nan, his tone icy as he said, “You’re the Controller Su Nan from Star Alliance, aren’t you? You actually dare to chase us down alone without your Wizard Tower. Do you really think that having some Wizard-level Puppets for protection means you can defeat us?”
Su Nan chuckled. “Why don’t you try and see?”
Youxi's expression darkened completely.
The defeat on the main battlefield had already filled him with shame and resentment. Now, witnessing the other party's complete disregard for him, the anger in his heart reached its peak.
Without hesitation, the light in Youxi's eyes flared with killing intent as he said in a cold voice, "Kill him!"
The moment his words fell, he charged toward Su Nan.
The battle erupted instantly, with the Gloomy Throne, Wizard, Tentacle Puppet, and Secret Puppet engaging in chaotic melee.
Su Nan and Youxi commenced their own fierce duel.
Having reached the Level 3 Wizard realm, they had mastered all extraordinary techniques.
The two unleashed their spells relentlessly, the dazzling radiance of magic almost never fading.
Just as the battle reached its climax, Maiisha and Cyril arrived at the Wolf Tide Plane after passing through the Plane Channel.
The first thing they saw was the fierce clash between Su Nan and Youxi.
"Su Nan has advanced to Level 3 Wizard?" Cyril exclaimed, taken aback. "His advancement speed is too fast!"
A hint of surprise flashed in Maiisha's eyes as well.
As far as she knew, Su Nan had only recently broken through to the Second Level of Crystallization. Even if he had traded fifty Spirit Pearls with her, it shouldn't have been possible for him to advance to Level 3 Wizard so quickly!
This speed of strength improvement was simply astonishing!
No wonder he dared to chase after Youxi and the others alone with his Puppet.
Cyril regained his composure and observed the scene carefully before shaking his head slightly. "Su Nan is still impulsive. Youxi is a Tier 3 Crystallization Wizard, two small realms above him. In a one-on-one fight, Su Nan is no match for him."
Maiisha's gaze flickered, but she remained silent.
Though she had only seen Su Nan a few times, she could tell he wasn't an impulsive person. Since he dared to take this risk, he must have a backup plan.
Perhaps he could deliver even more surprises.
After the initial probing exchanges, Youxi felt reassured and laughed coldly.
"I thought you were powerful, but you're just a Tier 3 Vaporization Wizard. I really don't know where you got the nerve to chase after me. Today, I'll let you leave your life here!"
As the words fell, Youxi's skin cracked, and pale, sharp bone spurs erupted from his flesh, quickly enveloping his entire body and forming spiked bone armor, reminiscent of a hedgehog.
Then, with a wave of his hand, sharp, hissing sounds erupted, and countless bone spurs shot forth like a torrential rain.
"Is that the 'White Bone' Innate Ability?"
Although the method of use was different, Su Nan immediately recognized the Innate Ability Youxi was employing.
With a subtle thought, an invisible Force Field centered around him, instantly spreading out in all directions.
In an instant, the bone spurs hurtling toward him seemed to fall into a swamp, their speed suddenly diminishing. A series of cracking sounds followed as cracks appeared on their surfaces, and they shattered as if crushed by some unseen force.
At the same time, Youxi felt his body suddenly sink, as though a mountain had collapsed upon him, visibly slowing his movements.
"What kind of Innate Ability is this?"
Youxi's face was filled with horror.
Cyril, watching the battle from a distance, widened his eyes in astonishment, echoing the same question.
He glanced at Maiisha, hoping to obtain an answer from this knowledgeable True Spirit Wizard.
However, Maiisha shook her head, her gaze equally filled with confusion.
She prided herself on being well-versed in the Innate Abilities within the Wizarding World, to the point where there were almost none she did not recognize.
Even if there were, they would typically be newly researched lower-level Innate Abilities from some Wizard Faction.
Yet the Innate Ability Su Nan was demonstrating clearly belonged to a high level, one she had neither seen nor heard of before—an unexpected revelation indeed.
