Chapter 228: Star Eye
Starlight Calendar, 1345, July, the Month of Flowing Fire.
The teleportation plaza buzzed with activity. A dozen Teleportation Arrays were arranged in a circle at the very center of the plaza. At every moment, people emerged from the Teleportation Arrays while others entered them.
At the edge of the plaza, Donohan fixed his gaze on the Teleportation Arrays, occasionally pulling out a pocket watch to check the time. After four or five minutes, his eyes suddenly lit up, and he waved at someone stepping out of a Teleportation Array.
"Fleming, over here!"
Several nearby students were drawn by Donohan's voice. Following his gaze, they noticed the badge on the chest of the gray-robed figure, which indicated a Level Three Wizard Apprentice, causing their eyes to narrow involuntarily.
"That’s a Level Three Wizard Apprentice. Which course does he mentor?" one student asked.
"Just because he’s a Level Three Wizard Apprentice doesn’t mean he’s a teacher. He could also be a member of the Star Alliance," another replied.
"Wait, this person looks familiar... I remember now! It's Fleming, the one who was second only to Mentor Sheman and Mentor Coley for being the fastest to be promoted to Level Three Wizard Apprentice!"
"Ah, so it's him!"
Donohan teased, "You're quite the celebrity at the Academy now."
Fleming chuckled, "When it comes to fame, Senior Brother Sheman and Senior Brother Coley are the ones who stand out. Hardly anyone remembers the third-placed person."
"Come on, third place is still impressive! I don’t even qualify to be ranked," Donohan replied with a pout.
Fleming gave a wry smile and asked, "You must be close to promotion, right?"
"Soon. In two or three years at most, I should be able to break through," Donohan said.
"Have you thought about where you'll go?" Fleming inquired.
"I don’t really have a choice; I can only join the Star Alliance."
As the number of Level Three Wizard Apprentices gradually increased, the number of teachers at Starlight Academy began to exceed the demand, leading the Academy to raise the standards for becoming a mentor.
Currently, one must construct at least twelve Star Rings or achieve significant accomplishments in any of the fields of Potion Making, Puppet Crafting, Magic Item Creation, or Biological Modification, and pass the Level Three Wizard Apprentice assessment to qualify for the position of Mentor.
The remaining Level Three Wizard Apprentices either continue their studies at the Academy or join the Star Alliance.
While the latter option comes with certain obligations, it offers generous monthly stipends. As a result, most Level Three Wizard Apprentices who do not meet the Mentor standards choose this path.
Fleming is no exception.
However, he anticipates constructing his twelfth Star Ring next year, at which point he will be able to apply for the Mentor assessment.
The benefits of being a Mentor at Starlight Academy are far more generous than those offered to an ordinary cadre in the Star Alliance.
After catching up for a while, the two decided to head to the cafeteria for a meal.
As the number of students grew, the Academy successively built several more cafeterias.
Fleming and Donohan still chose the Second Dining Hall, the very first place they had entered upon enrollment.
The prices on the recommended menu, which had once seemed exorbitantly expensive, now felt insignificant to Fleming.
After ordering a few dishes, a Water Sprite quickly delivered the food to their table.
Noticing Fleming's unwavering gaze on the Water Sprite, Donohan teased, "It looks like you've been spending quite a bit of time with the Water Sprite in your mansion lately. Are you already tired of them?"
Fleming rolled his eyes and replied, "I've been so busy with the task of pioneering the Sub Magic Stone Mine that I haven’t set foot in my mansion for over half a year."
Curious, Donohan asked, "I heard that the Sub Magic Stone Mine being pioneered this time is a large one?"
"That's right. Senior Artier is leading the team."
"Artier Senior, huh?" Donohan's expression reflected undisguised envy. "Artier Senior is impressive; she’s been able to serve as an assistant to Starfall Lord. I've heard that even Carolina and Red Widow have great respect for her now."
Fleming chuckled, "Artier Senior is a student truly recognized by our Teacher. Even without the assistant title, those two wouldn’t dare to overlook her."
"That may be the case, but how many people in the entire Star Alliance have a higher status than Artier Senior?"
Donohan picked up a piece of fish, put it in his mouth, chewed a few times, and swallowed.
"I'm actually quite curious. So many people participated in the assessment back then. How did Starfall Lord end up choosing Senior Sister Artier?"
"The others are one thing, but among the participants were also Senior Brother Sheman and Senior Brother Ethan."
Fleming hesitated for a moment before lowering his voice. "I heard that Starfall Lord is apparently female, which is why they chose Senior Sister Artier as an assistant."
Donohan was startled. "Really?"
Fleming shrugged. "It's just gossip; I'm not sure if it's true. After all, aside from the very top, no one has ever seen Starfall Lord's real face."
"Then where did this rumor come from?"
"They say Amy mentioned it."
Donohan suddenly understood.
If there was anyone in the entire Star Alliance who had no real power but held a position so high that no one dared to provoke them, it would be Amy.
Amy's origins were a mystery; she appeared and disappeared without a trace. She was not a Magical Pet of Sunan Master, yet she was deeply cared for and loved by him, giving her an extraordinary status within the Star Alliance.
Moreover, it was said that Amy was extremely knowledgeable, possessing much information about the Wizarding World. Sometimes even Mentors would consult her.
She also knew a great deal about the Star Alliance in intricate detail.
If Amy said it, then it was likely very true.
After chatting about gossip for a while, the conversation shifted to the Academy.
"Has anything interesting happened at the Academy recently?" Fleming asked casually.
"The Academy? What interesting things could possibly happen?"
Halfway through his sentence, Donohan seemed to think of something and changed his tone, saying, "If we're talking about interesting things, there is one."
"What is it?"
"The Academy recently installed a new magical device. They say it came from the Star Alliance. It can monitor the entire Energy Particle Fluctuation of the Academy. Anyone who uses magic outside the Magic Training Area and Laboratory will be detected immediately, and a warning will be issued."
"Last month, two students had a private duel and got caught. Not only were they fined a large sum of Contribution Points, but they are still in detention."
Fleming looked surprised. "There's a magical device like that?"
"What would I gain from lying to you? That thing is right there in the Monitoring Room, and it's called the Star Eye."
Seeing the curiosity on Fleming's face, Donohan smiled and said, "This month, Innocent Mentor is on duty in the Monitoring Room. I remember the old man admires you quite a bit. If you're curious, you could ask him to let you see the Star Eye."
Fleming's heart stirred. He specialized in the field of Magic Item Creation, and it would be a lie to say he wasn’t intrigued by such an exceptionally strange magic item.
However, he quickly collected himself and glanced at Donohan with a half-smile. "I think you're the one who's more curious. Otherwise, why would you keep urging me to go find Innocent Mentor?"
"Haha, I knew I couldn't hide it from you." After being exposed, Donohan didn’t feel awkward at all and chuckled, "But aren't you curious too? So, what do you say—are we going?"
Fleming hesitated for a moment but ultimately surrendered to his curiosity and nodded emphatically. "Alright, let's go find Innocent Mentor."
After making the decision, the two didn’t even bother to eat and headed straight for the Monitoring Room.
The Monitoring Room was located in the central area of the Academy, within a tall white building.
Right beside it, an Elite Twin Blade Spider flag team (100 members) was stationed. Whenever any violations occurred within the Academy, a squad of Twin Blade Spiders would immediately rush over to intervene and make arrests.
A squad of five legendary-level Elite Twin Blade Spiders was more than capable of easily suppressing any student in the Academy, except for a Mentor.
After being checked by the Steel Golem guarding the door, Fleming and Donohan entered the building.
As soon as they stepped into the hall, they saw a giant crystal ball displayed in the center.
The entire crystal ball was as tall as a person, oval in shape but with somewhat sharp ends, resembling an eye made of crystal.
Inside this 'eye' was a vivid three-dimensional panoramic model.
Just one glance at it, and Fleming recognized it as a panoramic view of Starlight Academy.
"What surprised him was the multitude of tiny green, yellow, and blue dots densely packed on the device—perhaps two or three thousand of them.
Fleming was just about to approach for a closer look when a staff member stopped him.
"Are you two here to borrow the Star Eye? Do you have a usage permit?"
Taken aback for a moment, Fleming listened as Donohan explained, "Some missions require the use of the Star Eye. Those who take on such missions can obtain temporary permits."
After the explanation, Donohan addressed the staff member, "We are here to see Innocent and the Mentor."
Just as the staff member was about to respond, a voice suddenly sounded in his ear.
"You can go now; I'll take care of them."
The staff member turned, his expression instantly becoming respectful.
"Innocent Sir."
Innocent waved his hand, dismissing the staff member, and then turned to Fleming with a smile.
"You came straight here as soon as you returned; I'm guessing it's about the Star Eye?"
Fleming was taken aback. "Does the Mentor know that I just got back today?"
Innocent smiled and pointed at the Star Eye. "The duty officer and the Mentor can see the status of the Star Eye at any time. As soon as you stepped through the Academy gate, I was aware."
Fleming and Donohan exchanged a glance, both surprised.
Is this Star Eye truly so magical?
It can actually monitor the movements of everyone in the Academy in real time?
"Would you like to take a look?" Innocent asked, gesturing toward the Star Eye.
Fleming readily agreed. "Thank you, Mentor."
Innocent smiled warmly and led the two closer to the Star Eye.
"The Star Eye is a magical device developed by Lord Starfall. This is its first completed model, specifically placed in Starlight Academy for practical use and data collection."
"It can sense all Energy Particles of a certain strength within a designated range, capture their life information, record it, and then monitor them in real time until they leave the monitoring area."
"Essentially, as long as it reaches the Trainee Knight level, no matter what type of creature it is—even a Puppet—it falls within the capture range."
Fleming was amazed, pointing at the glowing dots on the Star Eye. "Are these the captured biological targets?"
"That's right. The green dots represent Academy's Wizard Apprentices, the yellow dots indicate Puppet Creatures, and the blue dots signify Alien Races. Different colors correspond to different power levels."
Fleming carefully observed for a moment and indeed found two dark green dots at the location of the Monitoring Room, alongside a lighter-colored dot, clearly indicating the three of them.
Curious, Fleming reached out and touched the green dot representing himself, and rows of text quickly floated into view.
【Fleming Small, Human Male】 【Energy Level: 12 (Level Three Wizard Apprentice)】 【Identity: Star Alliance Cadre】 【Hazard Level: None】
"Any target whose life information has been captured will have the corresponding details recorded by the Star Eye," Innocent explained.
"Mentor, I heard the Star Eye can also capture the Energy Particle Fluctuations emitted during combat."
"That's right. Creatures unleash more intense and active Energy Particle Fluctuations during battle, and the Star Eye can capture these fluctuations in real-time."
At this point, a hint of mockery appeared on Innocent's face. "Thanks to the Star Eye, the Academy's private dueling activities have significantly decreased recently. The poor Red-eyed Crow doesn’t have to work so hard now."
Fleming chuckled in agreement, but his heart was filled with amazement.
As expected, someone appointed by Master Sunan as an acting Controller was no ordinary character. They had managed to create such a magical and powerful device.
He quickly recognized the immense role the Star Eye could play in safeguarding specific areas.
With the Star Eye, any creature entering its detection range would be immediately captured and monitored in real-time. Unless someone could continuously conceal their Energy Particle Fluctuations, even the slightest leak would mean immediate capture by the Star Eye.
The existence of the Star Eye could undoubtedly minimize the risk of being infiltrated or ambushed by enemies.
While this may not seem crucial at this stage, its impact would be extraordinary during a Plane War in the future.
Even for the defense of one's own territory, it could still have significant repercussions.
"Mentor, what is the effective range of the Star Eye?" Fleming inquired.
"The entire Zone 3 is within its monitoring range."
Innocent reached out and touched the surface of Star Eye, and immediately, the panoramic model of the Academy rapidly shrank. The overall view shifted upwards, revealing three-dimensional models of two tall towers.
Fleming quickly recognized them: the Dragon Bone Tower and the Starlight Wizard Tower, where Sunan Master resided.
The number of deep green light points on the two towers far exceeded those of Starlight Academy.
After glancing around for a moment, Donohan couldn't help but ask, "Where are Sunan Master's light points?"
Innocent looked at him with amusement and replied, "Do you want to monitor Sunan Master's whereabouts?"
Realizing what he had said, Donohan let out an embarrassed laugh.
Suddenly, Star Eye emitted a loud hum, followed by a piercing alarm.
Everyone turned in astonishment as a striking red halo appeared over the Starlight Wizard Tower on Star Eye.
