Chapter 905: Report
The representative of the Corpse-Controlling Gate was leaving, and Zhu Rong did not try to persuade them to stay, for she knew it would be futile.
Of course, she did not harbor resentment over the Corpse-Controlling Gate representative's lack of support. After all, their reasons were perfectly valid, and moreover, they had done nothing to harm Lecheng. As they were about to leave Lecheng, it was only natural for them not to offer assistance.
If she were to harbor resentment over such things, her heart would be far too narrow, and the number of people she'd resent in this life would likely be countless. If that were truly the case, all her thoughts would be consumed by animosity, leaving her no energy for anything else.
After the Corpse-Controlling Gate representative departed, Zhu Rong discussed some detailed issues with the others before finally concluding the meeting.
Inside the secret meeting room of the South Lake Death God Temple, Yang Haoran sat on a sofa, smoking. Opposite him sat three people: Zhu Rong, Old Master Wu, and Bai Xue.
Earlier, at the Administrative Courtyard, due to the varying circumstances, there were some questions Yang Haoran found it inconvenient to ask, and some things Zhu Rong found it difficult to say. So, after the meeting concluded and everyone dispersed, Yang Haoran had Bai Xue secretly bring Zhu Rong to the South Lake Death God Temple.
The reason Bai Xue was instructed to bring Zhu Rong was that Bai Xue possessed the ability to tear through space, while Zhu Rong did not. Without using spatial distortion to reach the South Lake Death God Temple, it would be easy for interested parties to discover them, arousing suspicion.
As a captain of the Spirit Police, it was perfectly reasonable for Bai Xue to interact with Zhu Rong, the Administrative Chief. Therefore, having her quietly escort Zhu Rong was the most convenient way and least likely to arouse suspicion from others.
Earlier, when the heads of the various major factions gathered at the Administrative Courtyard, Bai Xue's absence was, of course, intentional on Zhu Rong's part.
After all, the initial purpose of the gathering was due to the two Demon Hunters from the Jingling Continent Demon Hunter Association branch. Bai Xue was a Demon, and Demon Hunters specialized in hunting and killing Demons. It would have been inappropriate for Bai Xue to be there, and it might even have caused conflict, adding unnecessary trouble.
The first to report on recent developments was Old Master Wu. He managed the Lecheng Underworld Division, and his report naturally covered matters pertaining to it.
The Lecheng Underworld Division had not experienced any major incidents recently. After the last cleanup of Spirit Mediums, no more Spirit Mediums had dared to show their faces.
This did not come as a surprise to Yang Haoran. All known Spirit Mediums in Lecheng had already been eradicated by him; even if there were any stragglers, they certainly wouldn't dare to surface.
With no Spirit Mediums appearing, the Lecheng Underworld Division naturally had no major incidents. However, because Lecheng had become very peaceful under Zhu Rong's administration, fewer people were dying, and the number of Wánglíng the Underworld Office could guide had significantly decreased. This led to a stagnation in the Night Watchers' performance.
Yang Haoran, however, showed no reaction to this. After all, everything had its pros and cons. To allow Zhu Rong to achieve success, establish prestige in Lecheng, and earn the love of the common people, the safety of the populace had to be guaranteed.
With the common people safe, fewer people naturally died, and the number of Wánglíng guided by his subordinates certainly couldn't compare to before.
With Yang Haoran's current abilities, he no longer cared for the meager Soul Pills obtained from ordinary Wánglíng, so he felt no regret about the reduced number of guided Wánglíng.
Besides these two matters, Old Master Wu reported several other things, which Yang Haoran listened to carefully and committed to memory.
After Old Master Wu, Bai Xue also provided Yang Haoran with a report on recent developments and shared some of her own ideas.
Bai Xue's report naturally concerned the Spirit Police, and she particularly emphasized the small Demons she had subdued.
According to her, the Demon Pills of these small Demons no longer held much attraction for her. Moreover, since these small Demons were willing to submit to her, she had taken them in and allowed them to join the Spirit Police.
Her ideas also related to Demons: she planned to subdue more Demons to join the Spirit Police. As for how to find Demons, she said she had her own methods.
Yang Haoran did not pour cold water on Bai Xue's idea; instead, he encouraged her to proceed freely. If she encountered any intractable problems, she could inform him, and he would personally resolve them for Bai Xue.
If Bai Xue could truly subdue a large number of Demons, it would indeed enhance the strength of the Lecheng Spirit Police. With the Lecheng Administrative Courtyard now under his control, the Spirit Police were naturally no exception. An increase in the Spirit Police's strength meant an increase in a force under his command, and he would, of course, not refuse such a beneficial development.
The only issue was that if the number of Demons within the Spirit Police grew too large, it would certainly attract Demon Hunters.
However, Yang Haoran was not overly concerned about this problem. After all, there were currently only a few Demons in the Lecheng Spirit Police, not yet reaching a terrifying scale. If, someday in the future, the number of Demons within the Spirit Police truly reached a formidable level and attracted Demon Hunters to hunt them, then he would simply kill these foolish Demon Hunters.
If, by then, the Jingran Pharmacy's business had taken off in the Underworld, he wouldn't need to conceal his strength anymore. At that point, he would certainly find a way to deter other Demon Hunters, making them abandon any thoughts of hunting Demons in Lecheng.
Receiving Yang Haoran's approval, Bai Xue was overjoyed and confidently told Yang Haoran that she would surely surprise him.
After Bai Xue came Zhu Rong. Although Zhu Rong had not caused Yang Haoran any trouble nor asked for his help with anything since becoming Administrative Chief, this did not mean she hadn't encountered difficulties during this period. She had simply managed to resolve all these problems herself.
Unlike Old Master Wu and Bai Xue, the scope of Zhu Rong's report was far too broad: personnel, military, agriculture, communication, and so on—a chaotic mix that couldn't be explained in a few words. Yang Haoran felt a headache coming on as he listened and finally had to interrupt Zhu Rong.
"Alright, alright, you don't need to keep reporting to me. I'll just look at the results when the time comes. Right now, you just need to tell me if you have any problems you can't solve, and if you need me to step in. " Yang Haoran asked Zhu Rong with a wry smile.
"Not for now."
Without even thinking, Zhu Rong immediately responded to Yang Haoran.
"Heh heh, don't try to be too tough. If you have any trouble, you must tell me. Otherwise, what's the point of having me as your boss? " Yang Haoran said with a chuckle.
"Your subordinate truly has no problems she can't solve for now. If I really encounter such a problem, I will report it to my boss immediately," Zhu Rong said, smiling.
"Heh heh, alright. But when you really do run into something you can't handle, don't be polite with me," Yang Haoran said with a smile.
"I won't," Zhu Rong replied.
"Oh, right, you just mentioned wanting to abolish the New Beginning Coins and replace them with a new currency. Although I don't quite understand this, it must be very difficult, no? " Yang Haoran asked with a smile.
Zhu Rong nodded, not denying it.
"It is indeed very difficult. This matter can only be approached slowly. But boss, you don't need to worry. After all, our Lecheng is just a small city. Give me some time, and I will handle this matter properly. Please rest assured."
Yang Haoran had originally intended to learn more about this area of knowledge, but he worried that Zhu Rong would again tell him a lot of incomprehensible things, so he decided against it.
In his opinion, even if he understood this knowledge, it wouldn't be of much use, so he simply chose not to bother.
"The two two-star Demon Hunters who came to Lecheng this time, they should know that Bai Xue isn't human, and that we have several Demons in our Spirit Police, right?"
Yang Haoran asked, and Zhu Rong nodded.
"Then what's their attitude towards this? " Yang Haoran asked again.
"That female Demon Hunter indeed wanted to conveniently eliminate the Demons in our Spirit Police. The male Demon Hunter, however, didn't show such an inclination; he was just relentlessly inquiring about the whereabouts of the two three-star Demon Hunters who appeared in our Lecheng previously."
Upon hearing this, Yang Haoran pondered for a moment, then nodded to Zhu Rong.
"You don't need to worry about these two Demon Hunters. I'll find a way to deal with them when the time comes. You already have enough on your plate; I can't add to your burden," Yang Haoran said with a smile.
"Heh heh, thank you for your consideration, boss," Zhu Rong chuckled.
"There's no need for us to be formal. Though I am your boss, I would never treat you like a beast of burden."
At this point, Yang Haoran paused slightly, then continued to ask Zhu Rong:
"There's one more very important matter: what's been the situation in Ancheng recently?"
