Chapter 870: Qin Yefeng

The plan proceeded smoothly. Zhu Rong, as the Deputy Administrative Chief, successfully ascended to the position of Administrative Chief. Although opponents emerged during this process, they all became targets for Zhu Rong to kill and establish her authority.

Among these opponents were officials from the Administrative Courtyard and officers from the military. Regardless of their status, anyone who dared to stand against Zhu Rong was mercilessly cut down, not a single one spared, even if they had previously made significant contributions to Lecheng.

Zhu Rong’s methods were ruthless and decisive. After eliminating a wave of opponents, no one else dared to openly defy her, for they had no desire to become the second group to be executed as an example.

Without any surprises, Zhu Rong successfully became Lecheng’s new Administrative Chief. Upon taking office, the first thing she did was reinstate Bai Xue’s status as Spirit Police and appoint Bai Xue as the new Spirit Police captain.

Although Yang Haoran had made no specific arrangements for Zhu Rong, she already had her own ideas and plans, which she began to implement step by step after her inauguration.

As Zhu Rong began to put her plans into action, Yang Haoran also made a new move. He personally led his Night Watchers to clear out two Spirit Medium dens within Lecheng.

Among these Spirit Mediums, the strongest were only at the Spirit Master realm, and even then, they were in the lower-middle tier of that realm. Spirit Masters of this caliber posed no threat whatsoever to Yang Haoran.

Of course, he knew the locations of these two Spirit Medium dens because the Spirit Master who had wreaked havoc at the Wu Family villa had told him.

Upon receiving this information, Yang Haoran had originally planned to deal with the matter immediately to prevent these Spirit Mediums from escaping, but the death of the Administrative Chief forced him to temporarily shift his focus to the Administrative Courtyard.

After handling the affairs of the Administrative Courtyard, Yang Haoran immediately moved against these Spirit Mediums.

The Spirit Master who had gone on a rampage in Old Master Wu’s home, while not strong enough to challenge Yang Haoran, was a highly influential figure among these Spirit Mediums. Therefore, he knew almost everything about the Spirit Mediums in Lecheng.

The two dens he revealed to Yang Haoran were the last remaining ones in Lecheng. After Yang Haoran’s purge, there were no more Spirit Medium dens left within the entire Lecheng territory.

Perhaps there were still a few Spirit Mediums lurking in some hidden corner of Lecheng, but a few insignificant individuals like them naturally couldn’t stir up any trouble.

Moreover, given the severity of Yang Haoran’s crackdown on Spirit Mediums, those who had narrowly escaped wouldn’t dare to show their faces. Once they did, utter devastation would await them.

In such a situation, they barely had enough time to hide, wishing only to remain concealed. How could they possibly dare to seek death by revealing themselves?

In the Ancheng Administrative Courtyard, a middle-aged man set down a thick stack of documents, his brows tightly furrowed, his expression rather unpleasant.

This man was Qin Yefeng, the current Administrative Chief of Ancheng. The documents he had just set down were all related to Lecheng.

Qin Yefeng had put considerable effort, though not excessive, into annexing Lecheng to expand Ancheng’s power. He had initially thought it would be a minor affair, but the outcome had left him greatly disappointed.

Opposite Qin Yefeng at the wooden table stood two other people: an Elder and a young woman. Seeing Qin Yefeng’s displeased expression, neither spoke.

Qin Yefeng remained silent, pushing the documents forward, gesturing for them to read. Understanding his intent, the Elder picked up the documents and began to peruse them carefully.

After finishing, the Elder handed the documents to the young woman, who, like him, began to read them meticulously.

During this time, Qin Yefeng did not speak, his face grim, lost in thought.

It wasn't until the young woman put down the documents that Qin Yefeng, who had been silent, finally spoke.

"I had thought this was a good opportunity. As long as Lecheng's Spirit Police were eliminated, taking Lecheng would be a simple matter. Success was within reach, yet at this crucial moment, someone ruined our plans. What a pity. Yang Haoran, as an Underworld Official of the Underworld Office, should be busy guiding Wánglíng and dealing with ghostly entities. Instead, he has the leisure to interfere with our Administrative Courtyard's affairs. He truly has too much time on his hands."

Qin Yefeng wasn't furious, but his tone was low and his expression serious as he spoke, betraying the anger simmering within him.

"Yang Haoran became an Underworld Official later than Xu Meijing. His strength shouldn't be that impressive. Should I go and meet him, or perhaps eliminate him, and remove this stumbling block?"

The young woman spoke, her voice not loud, but filled with a murderous intent.

"Even if his strength isn't much, he is still a genuine Underworld Official. Even with the Jingling Continent Underworld Office currently in turmoil and having suffered a great loss, they remain a colossus in our eyes. Offending them would bring us no benefit. If we were to kill him, we would surely invite significant trouble. While our Ancheng is indeed stronger than Lecheng, we are only slightly stronger. Compared to other major cities or powerful factions, we are still too weak."

The Elder standing beside the young woman responded. He knew the young woman's temper well, so he spoke to dissuade her, lest she make any rash moves on her own.

"If we don't kill him, can't we at least warn him? He killed our people; are we to say nothing? If word of this gets out, where will Ancheng Administrative Courtyard's Face be? Who would be willing to pledge allegiance to us in the future?"

The young woman's words caused the Elder's brow to furrow slightly. He did not deny what she said; on the contrary, he felt there was some truth to her argument.

Currently, for their Administrative Courtyard to expand its strength, they needed to recruit more experts to serve them. If their reputation was damaged, it would indeed have a certain negative impact on them.

Seeing the Elder remain silent, Qin Yefeng finally spoke.

"Regardless of Yang Haoran's strength for now, we must consider his identity. Furthermore, that snake demon Bai Xue is also a troublesome matter. According to the information we've gathered, this snake demon Bai Xue possesses quite formidable strength, belonging to the ranks of powerful demons. Dealing with her won't be easy."

As he finished speaking, Qin Yefeng slowly rose from his seat, walked a few steps back and forth, and continued.

"Now that Zhu Rong has become Lecheng’s new Administrative Chief, and this snake demon Bai Xue has become the Spirit Police captain, Zhu Rong knows full well that Bai Xue is Yang Haoran’s person, yet she still made such a decision. There must be something fishy going on; it's highly likely they've reached some kind of agreement."

"To take Lecheng, we must first eliminate Lecheng's Spirit Police. Otherwise, even if we send in our army and conquer Lecheng, the casualties would be extremely heavy. At that point, we might just end up making wedding clothes for others, and both Ancheng and Lecheng would be wiped out in one go."

"From the current situation, it's clear that Zhu Rong, the newly appointed Administrative Chief, has already gained the support of Yang Haoran, the Underworld Official. We just don't know how many of Lecheng's other factions are willing to support Zhu Rong. If other factions are unwilling to support her, the situation might be a little better. If other factions are also willing to support Zhu Rong, then the situation becomes quite troublesome."

Qin Yefeng analyzed with a furrowed brow. The Elder, upon hearing this, thought for a moment and then spoke.

"No one rises early without a motive. Since Yang Haoran is willing to help Zhu Rong, he must be looking to gain benefits from her, or perhaps Zhu Rong has promised him some. If Zhu Rong can offer benefits to Yang Haoran, we certainly can too. We can also offer benefits to Lecheng's other factions. As long as we offer enough incentives, it's not impossible for them to switch sides."

Upon hearing this, Qin Yefeng did not immediately respond to the Elder. Instead, he furrowed his brows and pondered for the time it takes to smoke a cigarette before finally making his decision.

"The method you suggested can be tried, but not now. For the time being, let's not act rashly. What you need to do now is find every possible way to gather more comprehensive information. Only then can I prescribe the right remedy and achieve our objective."
