Chapter 832: Soul Guide Bell
This potent poison, concocted by Feng Xiao, was effective only against living beings of flesh and blood. For a Guardian Spirit, which was a spirit body, it had absolutely no effect. Thus, although the Spirit Master was afflicted with the potent poison, his Guardian Spirit remained entirely unharmed.
Upon receiving the Spirit Master's command, the Guardian Spirit disregarded the Spirit Master's injuries and prepared to launch another attack on Old Master Wu. However, before he could make his move, Old Master Wu had already unleashed his Ghost Art: Ghost Fiend Soul Chain.
A thick, formidable Ghost Fiend Soul Chain coalesced in the air, then surged rapidly towards the Spirit Master's position.
The Spirit Master watched this scene unfold. Ignoring the incoming Ghost Fiend Soul Chain, he entrusted his very life to his Guardian Spirit, then immediately sat down cross-legged, intent on expelling the potent poison from his body as quickly as possible.
Although he didn't know the exact nature of the potent poison he had ingested, Old Master Wu hadn't offered any explanation, merely stating it was a "new product" and that he should feel "honored"—nothing else was revealed.
But as the victim, he was acutely aware of the poison's fierce potency. If he didn't expel it quickly, his physical body would likely be ruined. This was why he had no choice but to sit cross-legged on the spot, prioritizing the expulsion of the potent poison before anything else.
The enormous head of the Ghost Fiend Soul Chain emitted a series of ghostly laughs, charging towards the Spirit Master with a powerful aura. Just as it was about to strike the Spirit Master, the Guardian Spirit immediately utilized her control over objects, forcibly halting the Ghost Fiend Soul Chain mid-air. She then flung the chain away, sending it crashing through a line of large trees, stirring up a massive cloud of dust.
Having failed its first strike, the Ghost Fiend Soul Chain soared into the air, launching another assault on the Spirit Master. Though it had just been flung away by the Evil Spirit, it hadn't suffered significant damage and remained as vigorous as ever.
From the moment he had flung the Ghost Fiend Soul Chain away, the Guardian Spirit had seized the opportunity to swiftly form hand seals. As the Ghost Fiend Soul Chain lunged at the Spirit Master once more, her ten fingers abruptly paused—the seals were complete.
“Spiritual Art! Cage! ”
The Spiritual Art the Guardian Spirit employed was merely a very common one. Due to her nature as a spirit body, cultivating Spiritual Arts or Ghost Arts was inherently much more difficult for her, which was why she only knew a few conventional Spiritual Arts.
Furthermore, advanced Spiritual Arts were not easily acquired. Even if one obtained them, she couldn't simply learn them at will; she still needed her master's permission.
The Spirit Master had said to use full power to kill Old Master Wu. Even if she couldn't kill him, she had to buy him a certain amount of time.
The Guardian Spirit hadn't forgotten her master's command. Thus, she unleashed the Spiritual Art: Cage, first trapping the Ghost Fiend Soul Chain, and then prepared to strike Old Master Wu himself.
Once Old Master Wu was dead, those two good-for-nothings, Wu Senior and Wu Junior, would meet an inexplicable end with just one of her illusions.
Four stone pillars shot up from the ground, trapping the lunging Ghost Fiend Soul Chain in their center. Before the Ghost Fiend Soul Chain could squeeze through the gaps between the four pillars, chains quickly wrapped around them. Wherever the Ghost Fiend Soul Chain attempted to find a breakthrough, the chains would immediately coil there.
Amidst a clattering of chains, the four stone pillars were tightly bound by the chains in a short span of time. The cage had formed, and the Ghost Fiend Soul Chain was naturally ensnared within this unique prison.
The Ghost Fiend Soul Chain rampaged wildly within the cage, each impact producing a resounding boom. Yet, the cage merely shuddered violently, showing no immediate signs of shattering. However, judging by the intensity of the cage's vibrations, it wouldn't take long for this Spiritual Art-formed cage to be broken by the Ghost Fiend Soul Chain.
The Guardian Spirit also knew that the cage wouldn't hold the Ghost Fiend Soul Chain for too long. She could sense that this Ghost Fiend Soul Chain was not a low-level Ghost Art; with Old Master Wu's strength, a low-level Ghost Art simply couldn't unleash such immense power.
Conversely, the Spiritual Art she employed was merely ordinary, and the power she infused into the cage was limited. Therefore, she knew the cage couldn't hold the Ghost Fiend Soul Chain for an extended period.
She wasn't worried about this. As long as she killed Old Master Wu before the cage shattered, the Ghost Art he had unleashed would naturally dissipate.
After successfully trapping the Ghost Fiend Soul Chain, the Guardian Spirit abruptly waved her hands, unleashing her power of object control once more. Large quantities of rocks, trees, and unknown weeds soared into the air from the ground. In just the blink of an eye, a dense mass of countless miscellaneous objects had gathered above her head.
Some of these miscellaneous objects inherently possessed a degree of offensiveness, while others had none. Yet, after being empowered by the Guardian Spirit's strength, all of them, without exception, transformed into deadly weapons—even a single blade of grass.
The Guardian Spirit had clearly unleashed her full power this time; the intensity of her attack far surpassed any previous attempt. When this move descended, not only was Old Master Wu, who stood opposite her, within her strike zone, but even Wu Senior and Wu Junior, who were behind Old Master Wu, were also within the attack range.
“Even if this wave of my attack doesn't kill you, it will cripple you,” the Guardian Spirit declared. “As for those two good-for-nothings behind you, they are absolutely dead! ”
The Guardian Spirit's voice revealed immense confidence. As her words fell, the massive array of miscellaneous objects, under her control, surged overwhelming towards Old Master Wu's position, assailing him with crushing force. The air rent with continuous tearing sounds; the speed was so extreme that space itself seemed about to be ripped apart.
Meanwhile, Old Master Wu, upon the Guardian Spirit unleashing her power of object control, relinquished his full control over the Ghost Fiend Soul Chain, allowing it to act on its own. He, in turn, formed new hand seals.
As the overwhelming mass of miscellaneous objects tore through the air towards him, his hand seals were also completed.
“Ghost Art! Nether Ice Mirror! ”
Old Master Wu's timing was impeccable. The instant the Nether Ice Mirror coalesced, the overwhelming array of miscellaneous objects arrived as if on cue. The moment these objects touched the mirror's surface, they were immediately swallowed by it, leaving not the slightest impact on the Nether Ice Mirror.
The Guardian Spirit was instantly dumbfounded by this sight. She hadn't expected Old Master Wu, a fellow who had only just opened his Heaven Soul, to know so many Ghost Arts—and powerful ones she had never witnessed before.
In just a few breaths, all the miscellaneous objects controlled by the Guardian Spirit were completely swallowed by the Nether Ice Mirror; not a single blade of grass remained. Before she could even process what was happening, the Nether Ice Mirror trembled slightly and then ejected all the swallowed objects, which then shot back towards the Guardian Spirit and the Spirit Master with the same ferocious speed and force as before.
The Guardian Spirit's expression drastically changed. She hadn't anticipated the Nether Ice Mirror possessing such a bizarre ability. In her urgency, she had no time for further thought and could only muster all her strength to fend off this ferocious wave of attack.
However, this wave of attack was originally her own full-strength strike, and deflecting it was no easy feat. But for her own sake, and for the Spirit Master who was expelling the poison, no matter how difficult, she had to block this wave of attack.
Just as she was marshaling her strength to parry her own returning attack, Old Master Wu dispersed the swirling Yin Qi around him, revealing the object cultivated within its depths.
It was a bell, fist-sized and entirely black. Along its base, strange patterns were etched, and all over its black surface were blood-red ghostly hands. These blood-red ghostly hands were splayed open, as if reaching to seize something from above and drag it down forcefully, or perhaps violently struggling, trying to grasp something above to climb out. The sight was both eerie and terrifying.
This black bell was the Soul Armament Old Master Wu had acquired after opening his Heaven Soul.
“I've named this bell the Soul Guide Bell,” Old Master Wu announced. “It was just cultivated, still fresh, so I'm not entirely sure of its power yet. I suppose I'll have to test it on the two of you, master and servant. ”
At this moment, the Guardian Spirit was fully engaged in fending off the attacks reflected by the Nether Ice Mirror; explosions echoed relentlessly. However, Old Master Wu's voice, amplified by Spirit Power, completely overshadowed the booming sounds, delivering his words, not a single syllable missed, into the Guardian Spirit's ears, and simultaneously into the ears of the Spirit Master who was still expelling the poison.
After Old Master Wu's voice faded, he gently waved his hand, and the Soul Guide Bell began to spin fluidly before him. Its volume rapidly expanded, and in the blink of an eye, it transformed into a massive black bell.
