Chapter 582: Third Job Tonight

The truck driver suddenly found his body no longer under his control because he had been possessed by a female ghost. This was why, in this moment, though he clearly intended to press the brakes, his foot uncontrollably stomped on the accelerator.

His foot pressed down with immense force, driving the accelerator straight to the floor, as if he wanted to snap it clean off.

Amidst the roaring acceleration, the truck's speed didn't just fail to decrease; it surged forward, hurtling towards the crowd of onlookers who had walked into the middle of the road, ensnared by the illusion.

Just as the truck was about to slam into them, its rapid forward momentum abruptly ceased, as if someone had suddenly seized its rear and forcibly yanked it back.

At that moment, a black chain, thick as an arm, appeared from the truck's rear. One end of the chain was wrapped around the truck's tail, while the other was clutched in the hand of an ordinary-looking young man.

The chain stretched taut. With just one hand, the young man brought the rapidly moving truck to a halt. Compared to the massive vehicle, his slender figure seemed insignificant, yet he possessed strength far exceeding the truck's. His expression remained utterly calm, as if stopping a high-speed truck with an iron chain was merely a trivial matter to him.

Because its rear had been suddenly seized by an irresistible force, the truck's front half reared high, appearing poised to flip. The driver inside shrieked in terror; if the truck really overturned, whether he'd live to see tomorrow's sun was anyone's guess.

The truck driver immediately let out a loud scream of pure fright, his mouth wide open, and instinctively squeezed his eyes shut.

Simultaneously, a large black hand suddenly materialized above the rearing truck. The hand was incorporeal and misty, difficult to discern in the dark, rainy night.

The massive hand violently gripped the truck's front half, like an adult's palm suddenly seizing a child's toy car, then pressed down with force. The raised truck body was forcibly slammed back to the ground by this illusory black hand.

The truck driver continued to scream, believing his truck had already overturned. Yet, his body felt no pain, nor was he jostled about in the cab; there was no sign of a rollover at all.

He stopped screaming, opening his eyes to find his truck eerily motionless. This filled him with profound shock, as if he couldn't believe everything his eyes were seeing was real.

The shock lasted only a moment, then the truck driver became terrified once more, for one of his feet was still relentlessly pressing the accelerator. No matter how he tried to control it, that foot simply refused to obey.

Just as he was overcome with terror, a chain thick as an arm smashed through the truck's windshield and rapidly assailed his body. The truck driver's face turned ashen, and he shrieked loudly in renewed fright!

The chain pierced through his chest, yet eerily caused him no harm. Nevertheless, it scared him out of his wits; his screaming ceased abruptly, and he fainted on the spot.

After piercing his chest, the chain immediately lunged towards the female ghost possessing him. However, the female ghost detached herself from his body at that very moment.

A sinister and terrifying ghostly laugh echoed, bearing clear provocation. The female ghost's Spirit Body then transformed into a cloud of Yin Qi, shooting out of the truck, temporarily evading the incoming chain.

The Yin Qi solidified into a Spirit Body, and the female ghost hovered in the air, clearly seeing the young man behind the truck. A ferocious smile spread across her face, she extended a crimson tongue to lick her lips, and her pale red eyes gleamed with greed.

The chain, having missed its target, immediately shot out of the truck, intent on pursuing the female ghost. However, the female ghost seemed to sense something at that moment; her figure flickered, dodging the incoming chain, then she cast a provocative glance at the young man before fleeing into the distance with a string of laughter.

At the same time, the mesmerized onlookers on the ground, still ensnared by the illusion, lunged towards the young man behind the truck like rabid lunatics.

All of this transpired within mere breaths. The female ghost had not revealed her form, so no one except the young man perceived her presence.

Among the passing vehicles, some still noticed the young man manipulating a chain to forcibly control the truck. Yet, this sight was far too incredible for ordinary people. When they stopped their cars and rubbed their eyes before looking back at the truck's location, they only saw a young man indeed standing at the truck's rear, but the arm-thick black chain had vanished. Everything that had just happened seemed to be merely an illusion.

However, one thing utterly perplexed them: why were the onlookers present rushing at the young man as if they had gone mad!

Could it be. . . that this young man had some connection to the traffic accident, and thus the well-meaning crowd wanted to restrain him?

This young man was none other than Yang Haoran. The female ghost who had just escaped was not his first job of the night. Before this, he had already completed two tasks: a powerful Evil Spirit, and an Evil Spirit on the verge of breaking through to the Evil Spirit realm.

Tonight, he had started by dealing with the strongest entities first. After completing his second job, he sensed the intense Yin Qi emanating from this location, realizing a powerful ghostly presence had emerged, and thus he immediately rushed over.

When the female ghost had been bewildering Er Lengzi, Yang Haoran had already sensed a faint emission of Yin Qi here. However, due to its weakness, he decided to deal with the more formidable ghostly entities first. He hadn't expected that a truly significant one would be hiding here.

Yang Haoran understood why the female ghost had suddenly fled without a fight. It wasn't that she feared him; the power fluctuations emanating from him at that moment were merely ordinary, insufficient to make an Evil Spirit flee without confrontation. Her choice to escape was certainly due to sensing several other power fluctuations rapidly approaching this direction. She knew that two fists couldn't contend with four hands, and thus had no desire to linger in battle.

Naturally, Yang Haoran also sensed these rapidly approaching power fluctuations.

However, he paid no heed to these swiftly drawing power fluctuations. His attention was currently fixed on the group of onlookers ensnared by the illusion.

These onlookers, in his eyes, possessed no fighting capability whatsoever. If he wished to leave, no one could stop him. However, if he departed, there was a high chance these onlookers would turn on each other.

With the female ghost's escape, the illusion would also dissipate. In other words, even if Yang Haoran did nothing, these onlookers would return to normal after a short while.

But who could guarantee that they wouldn't harm those around them, or even themselves, before regaining their senses?

Yang Haoran had not intended to waste time on these onlookers. Yet, considering this point, he decided to break the illusion over them first. After all, it wouldn't take him much time.

These onlookers roared as they charged at Yang Haoran. Some women unslung the bags from their shoulders, intending to use them as weapons. Some men pulled out the belts from their waists—those "Seven Fierce Ones" that were just a notch below the "Seven Wolves. " Others simply kicked off their shoes to use as projectiles.

Some of them were livid with rage, others even wept, clearly viewing Yang Haoran as the most detested person in their lives, and thus they sought to eliminate him in the simplest and most brutal manner.

The onlookers advanced fiercely, but Yang Haoran remained utterly unfazed. Seeing them already surging close, he simply stomped his foot on the ground.

An invisible force spread outwards, instantly knocking these onlookers unconscious.

Drivers and passengers in nearby cars were all equally stunned by this sight. They couldn't fathom what was happening, why all these people had suddenly collapsed onto the ground.

Some drivers, worried about the onlookers' safety, immediately called the police. Others dialed for emergency medical services. Still others even rushed out of their cars, wanting to check on the onlookers and see if they were in any mortal danger.

The moment the onlookers collapsed, all their attention was drawn to them. By the time they reacted and looked for Yang Haoran, he had already vanished without a trace.
