Chapter 465: Never Separated Again
Yang Haoran’s body hung suspended in the air. After watching the Elder Brother’s physical form turn into a blood mist, he immediately dispersed the Death God’s Law Aspect and spewed out a large mouthful of fresh blood.
Compared to the last time he had unleashed the Death God’s Law Aspect, his strength had increased considerably. However, this didn't mean he could easily wield the Death God’s Law Aspect’s immense destructive power; activating such power was still quite a strain for his current self.
Therefore, the moment the Elder Brother’s body transformed into a blood mist, he decisively dispersed the Death God’s Law Aspect, not daring to let it persist, as it would inflict an enormous burden upon him.
Nevertheless, even though he timely dispelled the Death God’s Law Aspect, his body was still significantly affected. Coupled with his pre-existing injuries, he couldn’t hold back and directly spurted out a large mouthful of blood.
Yang Haoran paid no mind to his own injuries. The first thing he did after dispersing the Death God’s Law Aspect was to control his Soul Armament, Remnant Moon, to scatter all the monsters clinging to Bai Xue.
A green light emanated from Bai Xue’s body. Her massive form vanished, and she transformed back into her human shape. Demon Power materialized a white robe around her, but the moment it appeared, it was stained red by blood gushing from her many wounds.
"Quickly seal the wounds! Don't let any more blood drain away," Yang Haoran urged, his face etched with concern.
Bai Xue nodded with a smile, though her face was pale and her aura weak. Her smile, lacking its usual charm, now gave her a fragile, pitiable appearance.
"Thank you just now. Otherwise, I probably wouldn't have been able to successfully summon the Death God’s Law Aspect."
"You remember that I risked my life to save you, don't you dare forget," Bai Xue said with a laugh.
Yang Haoran nodded with a smile, then turned his gaze towards Ye Zhiqiu's location and said, "Go check on him. He can't die, or all our efforts will be in vain."
Dragging their weakened bodies, the two appeared in the large crater where Ye Zhiqiu and the female demon were. The scene before them made Yang Haoran frown slightly.
Ye Zhiqiu had, at some point, sat up from the ground, holding the dying female demon in his arms.
The female demon's physical condition was dire; it seemed she had mere moments left to live.
She had been able to block the Elder Brother’s hammer for Ye Zhiqiu in time because her attention had always been focused on him. When Ye Zhiqiu interrupted the bronze hammer’s advancement, she knew the Elder Brother would surely kill him in a fit of rage.
So, she secretly mobilized the little Demon Power left in her body, using her physical form to block the fatal blow for Ye Zhiqiu at the crucial moment.
Having withstood that hammer blow from the Elder Brother, the female demon’s life force was completely severed. The reason she hadn’t died immediately was that she still had some words to clarify with Ye Zhiqiu. It was precisely for this reason that she stubbornly held on, refusing to let her last breath fall.
Ye Zhiqiu lowered his head, tears streaming down his face. He wanted to say something, but the female demon spoke before him.
"There are some things I, I must make clear to you. Otherwise, otherwise I, I will feel very wronged. Although I, I deceived you, I absolutely never harmed your parents. Don't, don't misunderstand me, and certainly don't hate me. That would, would make me very sad."
As she spoke, the female demon’s voice grew weaker and softer. A faint, weak smile appeared on her face as she continued,
"Today, today I, I'm very happy to, to see you. I, I like being held like this by you. From now on, we, we will never be separated again. . ."
The female demon exhausted her last vestiges of strength to express the joy in her heart. Beneath that joy, however, lay deep regret and pain.
Her voice faded, and she closed her eyes, her life force completely extinguished. Immediately, her body began to emit countless dense green light particles. As more and more green light particles emanated, her body also started to become illusory.
In the blink of an eye, the female demon in Ye Zhiqiu's arms completely vanished, leaving behind only a Demon Pill. The area where she lay, meanwhile, began to sprout red flowers at a visible rate, transforming the previously scarred battlefield into a sea of blossoms.
The green light particles, transformed from the female demon’s body, were like countless fireflies in the night sky. They converged, heading towards Ye Zhiqiu’s longsword, which had fallen some distance away.
The longsword was deeply embedded in the ground. The green light particles continuously flowed into the sword, being absorbed by it.
As the longsword continuously absorbed the green light particles, a layer of green light illuminated its surface, and its power fluctuations also intensified.
"No!"
A heartbreaking roar escaped Ye Zhiqiu’s lips. He then used all his remaining strength to rush towards his Lifebound Demon Armament.
He wanted to stop the green light from flowing into the longsword, but given his current physical condition, he had no strength to prevent it. He could only watch as the green light particles were continuously absorbed by his Demon Armament.
In her final moments before death, the female demon forcefully transformed her body into energy that could be absorbed by a Demon Armament, then merged into Ye Zhiqiu’s Demon Armament. The green light particles visible to the naked eye were the energy her body had become.
In just a few breaths, all the green light particles were absorbed into Ye Zhiqiu’s Demon Armament. His longsword also advanced from a two-Demon Markings Demon Armament to a three-Demon Markings one.
For a Demon Hunter, a Demon Armament advancing in rank was normally a good thing. But at this moment, Ye Zhiqiu felt no joy at all. Overcome with emotion, he knelt before the longsword, tightly clutching the Demon Pill that the female demon had left behind. He ignored everyone else and cried out loud.
Before Ye Zhiqiu became a Demon Hunter, he had his parents and his wife. His life was ordinary, but he felt very happy.
And the female demon was his former wife, though at that time, Ye Zhiqiu didn’t know she was a demon.
From acquaintance to courtship, then marriage, Ye Zhiqiu had never found anything amiss with his wife. In his eyes, she was just an ordinary woman. If there was anything extraordinary about her, it was simply that she was too beautiful.
Given Ye Zhiqiu’s circumstances at the time, having such a beautiful and virtuous wife made him feel like the happiest man in the world. Sometimes, he even wondered what good deeds he had done in his past life to be blessed with such a pretty and virtuous wife in this one.
To provide a better life for his wife, Ye Zhiqiu worked very hard. He didn’t want to see his wife suffer hardships with him, nor did he want to see his aging parents still toiling for the family.
So, he wanted to change the present situation through his own efforts.
Through his efforts, the family’s living conditions indeed improved significantly, and everything was progressing in a positive direction.
However, a tragedy occurred that completely destroyed their home, and Ye Zhiqiu’s world collapsed entirely because of it.
That day, after Ye Zhiqiu finished his work as usual and was preparing to go home, he was stopped by a middle-aged man who introduced himself as a Demon Hunter.
The middle-aged man stopped him because he sensed a strong Demon Qi on Ye Zhiqiu’s body. The middle-aged man told Ye Zhiqiu about his discovery, but Ye Zhiqiu scoffed, thinking the man was spouting nonsense.
The middle-aged man didn’t give up because of Ye Zhiqiu’s attitude. He shamelessly followed Ye Zhiqiu home.
Ye Zhiqiu initially disagreed with the middle-aged man’s actions, but he couldn’t do anything about him. The middle-aged man had performed some minor tricks in front of him, tricks that Ye Zhiqiu at the time couldn’t comprehend. He could tell the middle-aged man genuinely possessed some abilities, so he could only let him follow along, while a flicker of doubt arose in his heart: “Had he really encountered a demon? ”
At that time, Ye Zhiqiu had never suspected his wife. Nor could he possibly suspect his parents. In his view, even if he had genuinely encountered a demon and contracted Demon Qi, it would definitely have been outside, not in his own home.
However, the middle-aged man didn’t think so. He believed that while it was possible Ye Zhiqiu’s Demon Qi had been contracted outside, the possibility of it being contracted at home couldn’t be entirely ruled out either.
That’s why he shamelessly insisted on following Ye Zhiqiu home to investigate.
