Chapter 398: Battle of the Spiritualists (Part One)

Bai Xue was inherently a snake demon; her ability to communicate with and even control snakes didn't surprise Yang Haoran in the slightest.

However, the fact that she could not only control other snakes but also monitor Zhao Hong without using her Demon Power still surprised Yang Haoran somewhat.

Yang Haoran was not a demon, so he wasn't quite sure how Bai Xue managed this feat. Seeing Bai Xue's serious expression, he had no intention of asking for the reason, as he felt it was best not to disturb Bai Xue at that moment.

A moment later, Bai Xue spoke up on her own.

"The target took out a key and opened the door to an old house. It looked like it was her home."

The moment she finished speaking, Bai Xue's expression suddenly shifted slightly, and her brow furrowed lightly.

"Someone is approaching the target's old house. It's a man, he looks very young, he—"

Bai Xue hadn't finished speaking when the entire Cool Water Township suddenly echoed with a tremendous boom—

Boom!

This tremendous boom not only startled the ordinary people of Cool Water Township who had already fallen into slumber, but also sent a jolt through Yang Haoran inside the car.

Bai Xue opened her eyes, her gaze turning to Yang Haoran, and said, "It seems that man attacked the target. The snakes I was controlling were affected, shaken to death by his strike, and my line of sight was cut off."

The snakes Bai Xue controlled were merely ordinary snakes; they hadn't even developed sentience, let alone become demons. Such common snakes, no matter how venomous, were incredibly fragile in the eyes of people like them.

Yang Haoran didn't answer Bai Xue. At that moment, he sensed two powerful energy fluctuations: one came from Zhao Hong, and the other should be from the young man Bai Xue had just mentioned.

Both these energy fluctuations were very strong, and both were currently moving rapidly, one after the other, racing towards a large mountain in the southeastern direction of Cool Water Township.

"It seems we arrived at just the right time today. Let's go, we'll chase them."

Yang Haoran opened the car door and got out, then chased in the direction he sensed the energy fluctuations.

Seeing this, Bai Xue didn't ask further. She also immediately got out of the car and followed closely beside Yang Haoran.

Although neither of them had unsealed their internal power, they were far from ordinary people; their speed was completely incomparable to that of ordinary individuals. Thus, they quickly vanished into the night.

Ordinary people couldn't sense the presence of energy fluctuations, but they weren't deaf. The tremendous boom just now had startled everyone in the area who was still in their dreams. They groggily stepped out of their homes, unsure of what exactly had happened, until urgent shouts came from Zhao Hong's neighbor's house, finally drawing the attention of others.

Zhao Hong's house had already been razed to the ground, and her neighbors were also affected; cracks appeared in their homes, looking as if they might collapse at any moment.

The entire family panicked and fled their home. Seeing Zhao Hong's house already reduced to rubble, a middle-aged woman immediately cried out. Soon after, Zhao Hong's house was surrounded by people.

Meanwhile, Yang Haoran and Bai Xue had already left the residential area, pursuing their targets into a large mountain.

Because they had sealed their own powers, their speed was very limited. Although their pace far surpassed ordinary people, compared to Zhao Hong and the other person, the gap was still quite significant.

Precisely because of this, the distance between the two sides grew wider and wider, and the energy fluctuations they sensed grew weaker and weaker.

"Brother Yang, if we keep going like this, I'm afraid we'll lose track of the target," Bai Xue said, glancing at Yang Haoran.

"Can't you control snakes? Can't you use that method to track them? " Yang Haoran asked.

"I can, but if the distance is too great, I'd have to use my Demon Power," Bai Xue explained. "If it's close-range control like before, I can do it without using my Demon Power, but not if they're too far."

"Using Demon Power is definitely out of the question. We'd be exposed then."

Before he even finished speaking, Yang Haoran's expression brightened as he said, "They've stopped."

The words had barely left Yang Haoran's mouth when a tremendous boom echoed from deep within the mountain.

"They must be fighting! Let's hurry and go take a look! " Bai Xue exclaimed, her eyes lighting up with excitement.

Yang Haoran nodded and immediately increased his speed. Bai Xue followed closely beside him, her expression tinged with confusion.

"Brother Yang, I didn't expect your physical speed to be so fast without using any power. That's truly remarkable."

Bai Xue was a demon, and the physical bodies of demons were far stronger than those of humans. This was precisely why demons preferred to revert to their true forms when facing enemies, as their powerful physical bodies significantly amplified their combat strength.

Because their physical bodies were strong, even without using Demon Power, a demon's speed wouldn't be too slow, given the inherent explosive power of their physique.

Yet, after Yang Haoran sealed his own power, his speed was unexpectedly so fast, which left her feeling somewhat confused.

"I'm an Underworld Official," Yang Haoran responded. "My physical body has been modified, so I'm different from ordinary people."

In reality, Yang Haoran only mentioned one point; another was that he had refined several Death God Seals back then, and his physical body had absorbed a considerable amount of vital blood, causing it to transform and strengthen significantly.

Precisely because of these two points, Yang Haoran was able to unleash a considerable speed at that moment.

"So that's how it is," Bai Xue remarked. "Having a powerful organization backing you really makes a difference. The treatment you Underworld Officials receive is truly good; it makes me quite envious!"

Hearing this, Yang Haoran forced a wry smile. He didn't think Bai Xue's words were sincere in the slightest.

"With an organization comes discipline, and your actions will be restricted. You can't just do whatever you want. Weren't you the one who loved freedom the most? When I asked you to join the Spirit Police back then, you were a hundred times unwilling. And now you'd be envious of me?"

Bai Xue chuckled and said, "I was just joking. If Captain Luo didn't truly let me do whatever I wanted, and if the monthly pay wasn't actually quite good, I would have probably left the Spirit Police long ago."

As Bai Xue's words fell, another tremendous boom echoed from deep within the mountain.

The two exchanged a glance, and, with unspoken understanding, both fell silent. While maintaining their speed, they tried their best not to make any noise.

The two were like two agile cats, constantly weaving through the weeds and trees.

A moment later, Yang Haoran made a gesture to Bai Xue, and both simultaneously slowed their pace.

The sounds of battle came from ahead as the two cautiously approached.

"Sister Zhao, you never would have thought, right, that in such a short time, my strength could increase to this extent? Doesn't that surprise you greatly? " the young man said, a cold sneer on his lips as he looked at Zhao Hong.

The man was wreathed in Yin Qi. Behind him, a female ghost floated suspended in the air.

The female ghost's eyes glowed red. From this, it could be seen that she was an Evil Spirit, though judging by the degree of blood-redness in her eyes, she had probably only recently ascended to that rank.

Furthermore, while the female ghost's eyes were blood-red, the clothes manifested on her body were not blood-red. From this, it could be seen that the female ghost was not an innately formed Evil Spirit, but rather an Evil Spirit cultivated after death.

A truly innately formed Evil Spirit would be like Zhong Siyu, not only with blood-red eyes but even with garments manifested from their Yin Qi that were entirely blood-red. This was the distinguishing factor between innately formed Evil Spirits and those cultivated after death.

Compared to Evil Spirits cultivated after death, innately formed Evil Spirits were more ferocious, bloodthirsty, and perverse.

At this moment, this Evil Spirit was staring at Zhao Hong across from her with a sinister grin.

Intense Yin Qi wreathed the man, but the power released from within him was not Spirit Power, but Communication Power, which only Spirit Mediums possessed. Coupled with the Evil Spirit behind him, these elements combined were enough to confirm his identity: he was a Spirit Medium.

To be precise, he was a Spirit Master, just like Zhao Hong.

Both were Spirit Masters, but for unknown reasons, they were battling each other fiercely here.

In a short time, this place had been razed to the ground by their battle, which clearly showed that both were quite ruthless in their attacks; otherwise, there wouldn't be such destructive power.

However, at this moment, Zhao Hong was clearly at a disadvantage because she was already injured, while the young man was completely unharmed.

The main reason Zhao Hong, also a Spirit Master, was injured so quickly was primarily because no Guardian Spirit was found behind her.
