Chapter 363: Ghost Infant
That Fatty Qu was actually the gangster Wang Qing had sought help from back then.
At that time, Wang Qing approached Fatty Qu, offering her body as payment, hoping that Fatty Qu would help her out. Her demands to Fatty Qu back then were to disfigure Guan Hai and, furthermore, to kill Yang Haoran.
Fatty Qu agreed readily then, but afterward, he didn't follow through, because he never intended to help Wang Qing in the first place.
Wang Qing's initial target was Guan Hai, but Guan Hai had many friends in Lecheng, some of whom even Fatty Qu himself dared not provoke. So, unless absolutely necessary, Fatty Qu didn't want to lay a hand on Guan Hai.
Wang Qing's second target was Yang Haoran. If it were merely to rough Yang Haoran up, Fatty Qu wouldn't have cared, but Wang Qing's demand was to kill Yang Haoran. How could he possibly murder someone for the sake of Wang Qing?
In his eyes, Wang Qing was nothing more than a plaything; once the novelty wore off, she'd be discarded. How could he risk murder for a mere plaything?
However, to get some "meat to eat," Fatty Qu still agreed to Wang Qing's terms. What Fatty Qu hadn't expected was that Wang Qing would mysteriously die in the hotel that very night.
With Wang Qing dead, he naturally wouldn't bother fulfilling his promises to her. However, Wang Qing's death brought him no small amount of trouble.
Because the last person to be with Wang Qing that night was none other than Fatty Qu himself.
However, Wang Qing's death was too peculiar, making him fear that something unclean might come for him. So, he pulled some strings and acquired a protective amulet from a master.
He had paid a hefty sum for this protective amulet. Besides its protective properties, it also possessed a very special ability.
Initially, Fatty Qu was somewhat afraid of this ability, but as time passed, not only did his fear dissipate, he even came to thoroughly enjoy it, turning this special power into a means of committing crimes and accumulating wealth.
It was precisely because of this special method that his reputation in Lecheng had recently grown, and his actions became increasingly brazen. Coupled with the amount of alcohol he'd consumed tonight, he naturally became even more unrestrained.
Faced with Fatty Qu's arrogance, Guan Hai also felt a rising discomfort. He frowned, about to say something, but Yang Haoran stopped him with a smile.
“What you're talking about, I'm quite interested,” Yang Haoran said with a smile.
“Heh heh, I thought you'd be interested, because it concerns your little life,” Fatty Qu said with a chuckle, then attempted to forcibly seat himself beside the snake demon.
However, just as he shifted his body, he suddenly found himself unable to move.
“While I am interested, I didn't mean to invite you to sit. Just stand and speak. If you're unwilling to speak, I'll find a way to know regardless, though I'm afraid that might cause you some harm,” Yang Haoran said with a smile.
If an ordinary person were to suddenly encounter such a situation, their expression would undoubtedly be filled with terror, as the feeling of one's body being beyond one's control was simply too bizarre and terrifying.
However, when Fatty Qu faced this, he felt only surprise, not fear.
“Heh heh, I underestimated you. You've got some skills, no wonder you're so arrogant. But, there are far more skilled individuals in this world than just you. ”
Fatty Qu let out a cold laugh, and then the pendant on his chest began to sway on its own, without any wind. A wisp of black smoke, invisible to the naked eye, emerged from within the pendant, condensing before Fatty Qu into a Ghost Infant.
The Ghost Infant was enveloped in a layer of Yin Qi, its body a bluish hue, its appearance hideous and terrifying. A strange, chilling smile played on its face as its gaze locked onto Yang Haoran before it.
The Night Watchers present were enjoying their drinks, and since Fatty Qu and Yang Haoran's conversation was quiet, the other Night Watchers didn't hear them. There had been no physical conflict between the two parties, so they hadn't paid much attention to the middle-aged fatty.
However, at that very moment, when black smoke emanated from the pendant on Fatty Qu's chest, the actions of all the Night Watchers present abruptly paused. Their chatter ceased, and all eyes turned towards the Ghost Infant.
A sudden silence filled the air. The Ghost Infant seemed to sense something, turning its head to look at the Night Watchers present. It saw pair after pair of pitch-black Ghost Eyes staring intently at it.
And Bai Xue's eyes, meanwhile, had transformed into a pair of snake eyes.
Fatty Qu didn't possess Ghost Eyes, but he seemed to have established some sort of connection with the Ghost Infant, allowing him not only to sense its presence but also to see it.
The Ghost Infant's reaction greatly puzzled him. Carrying this confusion, Fatty Qu looked towards the Night Watchers present.
Upon seeing them, the cold smile on Fatty Qu's face instantly froze, and he felt a chill shoot from the soles of his feet straight to his scalp.
Guan Hai also seemed startled by the scene before him, but he quickly recovered, doing far better than the still-stunned Fatty Qu.
“I thought your pendant was hiding something truly formidable. Turns out it's a Ghost Infant. Seeing how skillfully you summoned it, I presume it hasn't been idle in helping you with your affairs? ” Yang Haoran asked with a smile.
Yang Haoran's voice not only snapped Fatty Qu back to reality but also jolted the Ghost Infant before him.
A ghost, stared at intently by a large group of Underworld agents—the scene was quite imaginable. Yet, what no one expected was that the Ghost Infant, upon regaining its senses, didn't immediately retreat into the pendant. Instead, its eyes gleamed with greed, and with a sinister grin, it lunged straight for Yang Haoran, who was closest.
From its posture, it was clearly preparing to devour the Spirit Power within Yang Haoran's body.
The instant the Ghost Infant moved, a jade-like hand suddenly reached out. Its movement seemed unhurried, yet in an instant, it seized the Ghost Infant in its grasp.
This jade-like hand was enveloped in a faint green light. Under this light, no matter how the Ghost Infant struggled, it could not break free. The one who had suddenly intervened was none other than the snake demon Bai Xue.
“Heh heh, I thought you had some incredible trump card. How dare you trot out such a weak ghost to make a fool of yourself? Still, this ghost is rather peculiar; its power isn't great, but its temper certainly is. ”
Bai Xue spoke, her gaze fixed on the Ghost Infant in her hand, a curious expression on her face.
This Ghost Infant was different from other ghosts. It didn't possess the red eyes of a Greater Evil Spirit, nor the unique white eyes of an Evil Spirit. It was unlike a Greater Evil Spirit, unlike an Evil Spirit, and certainly not an ordinary Wangling; it was truly strange.
Held in Bai Xue's hand, the Ghost Infant still refused to be still. It struggled violently, baring its teeth at Bai Xue, even revealing a set of sharp fangs, attempting to bite through the Demon Power on Bai Xue's hand. It was incredibly volatile and ferocious.
Yang Haoran glanced at the Ghost Infant in Bai Xue's hand, then at the startled Guan Hai, before finally returning his gaze to Fatty Qu, who stood before him.
Fatty Qu's expression was grim at that moment, and cold sweat had actually begun to seep from his forehead.
“I'm very interested in what you were saying earlier. Do you want to stand and tell me now, or sit? ” Yang Haoran asked with a smile.
At that moment, Fatty Qu had only one thought: to escape this place. He wasn't oblivious to what the scene before him implied; he knew these people were not ordinary. His sole reliance was the Ghost Infant, yet now the Ghost Infant was held in Bai Xue's hand, like a chick, by Yang Haoran's side. He was no match for Yang Haoran's group at all.
He wanted to flee, but couldn't. His feet were firmly gripped by two ghostly hands, making it impossible for him to move even an inch.
Looking at the smiling Yang Haoran, Fatty Qu's drunkenness faded, and the illicit desire in his heart vanished. He no longer dared to gaze at Bai Xue's figure, which he had found so incredibly alluring.
“Back then, someone wanted me to kill you, and to disfigure Guan Hai. Her name was Wang Qing, a university student, but she's been dead for a long time. ”
How could Fatty Qu dare to hide even half a word, much less demand to sit? His usual arrogant demeanor was nowhere to be seen; all that remained was fear and urgency.
The moment Fatty Qu spoke, Yang Haoran paused for a moment, then, recovering, a smile returned to his face.
Meanwhile, Guan Hai, who was standing nearby, heard Fatty Qu's words and his expression instantly turned grim.
Recalling how he'd lamented Wang Qing's death, believing her sins didn't warrant such a fate, Guan Hai now felt he had been far too lenient.
