Chapter 339: Demon Hunter, Demon Weapon

Inside the study, Yang Haoran lit a cigarette and took a deep drag. Old Master Wu sat across from him, silent, waiting for him to continue.

He knew that Yang Haoran had called him to the study because he surely had something to arrange, perhaps even related to the events of that night.

"Do you know about Demon Hunters? " Yang Haoran asked Old Master Wu after taking a few more puffs from his cigarette.

"Demon Hunters? " Old Master Wu's brows furrowed slightly, but then he nodded. He said, "I know a little. Demon Hunters are quite mysterious; I've never actually met one."

"These fellows are indeed quite mysterious. Before tonight, I hadn't met a Demon Hunter either," Yang Haoran said with a smile.

Upon hearing Yang Haoran's words, Old Master Wu seemed to guess something, and his expression subtly shifted. He asked, "Are your injuries from a Demon Hunter?"

Yang Haoran gently shook his head. "Not entirely," he said, "but a large portion of them were left by him. Recently, have our people be vigilant. If they discover any traces of a Demon Hunter, they shouldn't act rashly; they must report it immediately. I'm worried that fellow might seek revenge. At the same time, I also want to get some revenge on him."

Although Yang Haoran had spoken with a smile, Old Master Wu could still sense the anger simmering in his heart.

The Demon Hunter, the unconscious snake demon, Yang Haoran's injuries, his words at this moment, and the anger in his heart—all these elements strung together gave Old Master Wu a deeper understanding and more conjectures about what had happened to Yang Haoran that night.

"Boss, rest assured, I will definitely make proper arrangements for this matter," Old Master Wu promised.

Yang Haoran nodded. Then he continued, "As for how to distinguish Demon Hunters, you should teach them so they don't make a mistake and become a laughingstock."

After receiving Old Master Wu's renewed assurance, Yang Haoran let him go to rest. He, meanwhile, leaned back in his chair, his mind pondering some information about Demon Hunters.

Demon Hunters are beings whose profession is to hunt demons. They acquire Demon Pills by hunting demons, and then use special methods to refine Demon Pills into Demon Spirit Liquid, which they use to enhance their own Star Spirit Power.

The Demon Spirit Liquid refined by Demon Hunters through special means is only effective for Demon Hunters who possess Star Spirit Power. If others consume Demon Spirit Liquid, not only will it not increase their strength, but it may also have adverse effects, ranging from minor harm to their body to fatal consequences.

Although Demon Spirit Liquid originates from Demon Pills, it is a product successfully refined by Demon Hunters through special means. Therefore, the two are fundamentally not the same kind of existence. It is precisely because of this that demons can increase their cultivation and improve their strength by consuming Demon Pills. However, if they consume Demon Spirit Liquid, it will similarly have an adverse effect, potentially even costing them their lives in severe cases.

Besides obtaining Demon Pills, Demon Hunters also hunt demons to acquire their bodies.

In the eyes of Demon Hunters, a demon's entire body is a treasure. A demon's limbs, teeth, bones, and so on, are all materials used to refine Demon Weapons.

The so-called Demon Weapons do not refer to weapons used by demons, but rather to weapons refined from the bodies of demons.

Furthermore, a demon's body can also be used to feed Demon Weapons, thereby increasing the Demon Weapon's power. Once their power reaches a certain level, Demon Weapons can even evolve.

To become a true Demon Hunter, a Demon Weapon is indispensable. It's like Talisman Masters needing talismans. A Demon Hunter without a Demon Weapon is like a Talisman Master without talismans; it's difficult for them to fully unleash their combat prowess.

Demon Hunters have a Star Seal on their brow, composed of five small star marks that form a large Star Seal. This Star Seal is not only a symbol of a Demon Hunter's identity but also a classification of their rank.

If only one Star Seal on the brow is lit, it means they are merely a One-Star Demon Hunter. Lighting two makes them a Two-Star Demon Hunter, and so on. The more Star Seals lit, the higher the Demon Hunter's rank and the stronger their power.

Simultaneously, Demon Hunter's Demon Weapons also have a hierarchical classification.

As Demon Weapons are refined from a demon's body or a specific part thereof, they will develop Demon Markings upon successful refinement. Depending on the materials used and the refiner's techniques, the strength of the resulting Demon Weapon will vary.

The strength of a Demon Weapon is determined by the number of Demon Markings it possesses. A One-Mark Demon Weapon is the weakest, while a Nine-Mark Demon Weapon is the strongest.

However, regardless of whether a refined Demon Weapon is a One-Mark Demon Weapon or a Three-Mark Demon Weapon, it can enhance its power by devouring the bodies of demons or other Demon Weapons. Once a Demon Weapon's power reaches a certain level, it will automatically gain more Demon Markings.

Of course, a Three-Mark Demon Weapon's starting point is certainly much higher than a One-Mark Demon Weapon's. While a One-Mark Demon Weapon is still trying every possible method to advance to a Two-Mark Demon Weapon, a Three-Mark Demon Weapon is already on its way to becoming a Four-Mark Demon Weapon.

It is certain that a successfully refined Demon Weapon with more Demon Markings has a higher starting point. This is determined innately and cannot be altered later in life; one can only desperately strive to catch up.

Indeed, Demon Weapons become stronger with more Demon Markings, but for a Demon Hunter, more isn't necessarily better.

This is because if a Demon Weapon's rank exceeds what its Demon Hunter master can control, then no matter how good the Demon Weapon is, it can only be observed, not activated or used. It can only be wielded when the Demon Hunter's ability meets the required control threshold.

During this period, a Demon Hunter might very well lose their life due to not having a Lifebound Demon Armament to use, as a Demon Hunter can only possess one Lifebound Demon Armament in their entire life.

Apart from a Lifebound Demon Armament, other Demon Hunters' Demon Weapons, or ownerless Demon Weapons, even if acquired, can only unleash a small fraction of their power. Their might is far inferior to a Lifebound Demon Armament.

If a Lifebound Demon Armament breaks due to various reasons, then one can only find a way to repair it; it cannot be re-condensed like an Underworld Office Soul Armament.

Of course, if a Demon Hunter's Lifebound Demon Armament shatters beyond repair, then in this life, they will never possess a second Lifebound Demon Armament. Their strength will also be greatly diminished due to the absence of a Lifebound Demon Armament, a situation that will not change until their death.

If a non-Demon Hunter acquires a Demon Weapon, whether it's an ownerless Demon Weapon or a Lifebound Demon Armament with an owner, they cannot activate it due to the lack of Star Spirit Power. Even if they obtain one, at best it can only be used as an ordinary weapon.

Since Demon Hunters enhance their Star Spirit Power through Demon Spirit Liquid, their Star Spirit Power appears green, similar in nature to Demon Power. However, Star Spirit Power does not contain Demonic Qi. Through this, one can distinguish whether the target is a Demon Hunter or a demon.

Demon Hunters do not worship any gods, a point they share with Exorcists.

However, in this New Beginning Realm, there exists an organization called the Demon Hunter Association. All members of this association are Demon Hunters. This differs from Exorcists, as Exorcists do not have any organization, at least not at present.

There is a significant difference between having an organization and not. If one has an organization, they can request support from it when encountering insurmountable troubles. Without an organization, no one will care if you live or die.

Of course, having an organization also has its drawbacks. That is, one's words and actions will be constrained by the organization. There will be all sorts of trivial matters and countless rules, making it difficult to live freely and without restraint.

For now, this was all the information Yang Haoran had about Demon Hunters. After reviewing this information, the cigarette in his hand had also burned down to its end.

He stubbed out the cigarette, without lighting another. Instead, he took a sip of tea.

"Demon Hunters, the Demon Hunter Association. . . this isn't some clandestine organization. So why are they hidden so deeply in our Lecheng? We never even discovered their existence before. Also, how many Demon Hunters are currently in Lecheng?"

Yang Haoran put down his teacup and leaned back in his chair. His fingers gently and rhythmically tapped on the armrest.

The question of how many Demon Hunters are currently in Lecheng was what concerned him most at the moment. If there was only that sloppy man as a Demon Hunter in Lecheng, then it would be easy. He'd find him, teach him a lesson, and let the sloppy man witness his peak strength.

Conversely, if there was more than just the sloppy man as a Demon Hunter in Lecheng, and the abilities of other Demon Hunters were similar to his, then getting revenge for tonight would become much more troublesome.

Of course, troublesome as it might be, he wasn't without options. As long as he could locate the Demon Hunters within Lecheng's borders, he could make targeted arrangements and deployments based on the actual situation, and thus vent his anger from tonight.
