Chapter 304: What a Big Surprise

Yang Haoran did not `Open` his `Ghost Eye`, but with his `Sense Yin` ability, he naturally wouldn't be mistaken.

This person had a considerable amount of `Yin Qi` on her. Thus, there was only one possibility: she was entangled by a ghost.

Judging by the strength of the `Yin Qi` clinging to her, this ghost's power should not be underestimated.

Of course, there was another possibility: if she had been haunted by a `Wánglíng` for a long time, the `Yin Qi` on her body would also become dense.

Yang Haoran couldn't confirm the exact truth right now, but one thing was certain: this person was indeed entangled by a ghost.

"May the `Sǐshén` protect me, may the `Sǐshén` protect me, may the `Sǐshén` protect me!"

The person continuously kowtowed before the `Sǐshén` statue, their lips moving in prayer.

From this person's clothing, voice, and appearance, she should have been a woman. If, by some impossible chance, she were still a man, then there would be no remedy for it.

She was a middle-aged woman with sallow skin, a poor complexion, and prominent dark circles under her eyes.

The woman wore extremely cheap clothes, stained with dirt and dried cement. From this, it seemed she might work at a construction site.

Yang Haoran's appearance did not attract the woman's attention. After all, the place was packed with people, especially in front of the `Sǐshén` statue, where even more devotees were worshipping. It was common to be squeezed tightly, so an extra person beside her was nothing strange.

Yang Haoran did not interrupt the woman's worship. Only after she finished did he smile and ask her, "Auntie, I have something to discuss with you."

The woman glanced at Yang Haoran, forced a smile onto her face, and replied, "I'm sorry, I'm busy going back to the construction site to work."

As soon as she finished speaking, the woman turned and left without the slightest hesitation.

Yang Haoran remained rooted to the spot, smiling as he watched the woman's retreating back. "Have you encountered a lot of strange things recently? " he called out.

The woman paused, then turned to look at Yang Haoran.

"Young man, can you tell something? " the woman asked, her previously dull eyes suddenly lighting up.

Yang Haoran nodded, smiling as he replied, "Indeed, I can discern a few things. If you don't mind, let's speak somewhere more private."

Yang Haoran had expected that after he said this, the woman would leave with him, tell him all the strange things that had happened to her recently, and then ask him to resolve her problems.

Or perhaps, the woman would ask how much it would cost, then claim she had no money and hope Yang Haoran could lower his price, offering to help her as a good deed or something similar.

However, none of it happened. Not a single one of Yang Haoran's many guesses turned out to be correct.

Not only did the woman not leave with Yang Haoran immediately, but a hesitant expression appeared on her face. After a moment of silence, she actually shook her head at Yang Haoran.

"I appreciate your kindness, but I haven't encountered anything strange. There's still a lot of work at the construction site, and I need to go back right away."

With that, the woman truly turned and walked away, remarkably decisive.

Yang Haoran paused, then, regaining his composure, he lightly flicked his fingers towards the woman's retreating back. A wisp of black thread, barely visible to the naked eye, merged into the woman's body.

The woman felt nothing, continuing to stride with large, quick steps. By the time Yang Haoran had taken two puffs of his cigarette, she had completely vanished into the crowd.

Smoke slowly drifted from his mouth and nose, Yang Haoran's face a picture of exasperation. He had only intended to do a good deed and foster some positive karma, but he hadn't expected the other party to be so ungrateful.

The woman had also mentioned she worked at a construction site. Yang Haoran felt no disdain for such people; on the contrary, he felt a sense of familiarity, as his own parents had also worked on construction sites for a period.

Although he didn't know much about construction workers, he knew that the wages for such labor were actually quite good, even far exceeding the income of many ordinary people. However, not everyone was capable of earning such high pay, as the work was not only arduous but also inherently dangerous.

Perhaps this was merely Yang Haoran's limited understanding, but it didn't lessen his affinity for such individuals.

Precisely for this reason, even after the woman left, he still wanted to help her. So, he subtly performed a little trick on her. The wisp of `Spirit Power` that merged into her body would not be very effective in combat, but it would allow Yang Haoran to sense her location.

If a ghost approached the woman, he could also detect it through this wisp of `Spirit Power`.

"Before I leave today, I'll help you through this ordeal. But I wonder if this counts as 'crossing the line'? Will `Xu Meijing` come looking for trouble, claiming I've broken the rules?"

Although they were all from the `Underworld Office`, the `Underworld Office` had its own rules. However, the concept of "crossing the line" wasn't explicitly codified by the `Underworld Office`; it was merely an unwritten rule that `Emissaries of Death` generally observed.

If one went to someone else's territory to guide `Wánglíng` without the `Emissary of Death`'s permission, it would be considered "crossing the line," and might even be seen as a provocation. Without a reasonable explanation, a fight would be inevitable.

Yang Haoran certainly didn't want to get into a fight with `Xu Meijing` over something like this. However, he felt that `Xu Meijing` probably wouldn't bother him over such a small matter. After all, he wasn't determined to steal `Xu Meijing`'s job; he merely wanted to foster some positive karma before leaving `Ancheng`.

As he was thinking, a sudden commotion erupted at the entrance of the `Death God Temple`. Yang Haoran snapped out of his thoughts, took a drag from his cigarette, and looked towards the temple entrance.

Fully armed police officers burst into the `Death God Temple`, startling the devotees, and the scene instantly descended into chaos.

"My word! They've stormed the `Death God Temple`! `Xu Meijing`'s connections aren't that great, huh?"

Yang Haoran thought this to himself, taking another puff of his cigarette. But just as he inhaled, he suddenly realized something, and the smoke caught in his throat, making him cough violently.

"Damn it, don't tell me they're here for me? !"

Earlier by the river, he had clearly heard the fishing man call the police the first time. Although he had left then, how could the police not look for him in a murder case like that?

He had considered this point, but in his opinion, even if the police were looking for him, they shouldn't be doing it with such a grand display. So, he hadn't paid it any mind at the time and had left nonchalantly.

Judging by the current spectacle, these police officers were acting as if they were apprehending a fugitive. If they were indeed looking for him, it meant the fishing man had probably truly told the police that he was the murderer.

"I wanted to avoid trouble, but from the looks of it now, trouble seems to have come knocking. I should've erased some of that man's memories. What a blunder, what a blunder!"

As he thought this, the police at the entrance began to shout.

"The police are apprehending a suspect! All unrelated personnel, leave immediately!"

Devotees surged towards the `Death God Temple`'s entrance. As each devotee exited, they underwent a meticulous check by the police, who compared them to their target before allowing them to leave.

Some police officers blocked the entrance, while others entered the `Death God Temple` to search.

Yang Haoran stood his ground, a bitter smile on his face. He wasn't scared by the police; he was simply wondering how to resolve this situation.

The reason he had come to `Ancheng` without a word was to give `Xu Meijing` a surprise.

Well, now he had indeed given `Xu Meijing` a surprise. He had only just arrived in `Ancheng`, and `Xu Meijing`'s territory was already surrounded by police because of him. This was certainly quite a surprise, indeed.

"What a headache. After causing all this, will `Xu Meijing` kill me?"

Yang Haoran knew it was impossible for `Xu Meijing` to kill him. However, it was highly probable that this incident would leave a bad impression of him in `Xu Meijing`'s mind.

This was precisely what worried him at the moment.

"Found him! The suspect is here!"

A police officer spotted Yang Haoran. After carefully comparing him to the image on his phone and confirming it was indeed Yang Haoran, he immediately shouted loudly.

With his shout, all the police officers swarmed over. The temple entrance was no longer guarded, and all the devotees rushed out en masse.

Yang Haoran, meanwhile, was surrounded by a large number of police officers, with the dark muzzles of their guns uniformly pointed at him.
