Chapter 268: Ascending the Mountain

If an ordinary person were to witness the scene before them, even if they weren't scared to death, they would most likely be left with a shadow that could never be erased for the rest of their lives.

But Yang Haoran and the other five were different; they had long grown accustomed to such sights. Thus, the scene before them, while making their expressions a little more serious, stirred no fear in their hearts.

The madwoman was still retching violently, long strands of hair constantly spewing from her mouth, stretching from her lips all the way to the ground. Her expression was ghastly, her eyes bloodshot, and tears streamed from them one by one.

Though she was mad, she was still alive after all. For her to vomit up so much long hair from her stomach that it brought tears to her eyes was hardly surprising.

Forget ordinary tears; even if she were to shed tears of blood at that moment, none of the six people present would have found it astonishing.

After roughly ten minutes, the madwoman's retching finally ceased. Before her lay a heap of black hair, coated with mucus and streaked with blood, a truly disgusting sight.

The reason the madwoman's stomach could hold such an immense quantity of black hair without bulging, remaining as flat as a normal person's, lay in the Demon Curse.

As for why the madwoman hadn't died under such circumstances, the reason lay in her own power. She was originally a powerful Black Talisman Master, and though afflicted by the Demon Curse and driven mad, it was not surprising she had the ability to survive, as everyone possessed some means of self-preservation.

After completely expelling all the hair from her stomach, the madwoman seemed to be instantly hollowed out, falling directly into unconsciousness.

Seeing the madwoman lose consciousness, Yang Haoran's thoughts stirred, and the black chains all shattered, transforming into wisps of Yin Qi that vanished completely.

Without the black chains to hold her body steady, the madwoman collapsed limply to the ground, while Yang Haoran turned his gaze towards Zhou Fudui.

“She’s completely unconscious now. As for how long she’ll remain so, or if she’ll recover her sanity upon waking, I can’t say. How to deal with her is up to you. ” Yang Haoran said with a smile.

Zhou Fudui nodded, beckoned to a Spirit Police officer, and said, “Although she appears to be a victim, it’s still hard to say if this incident is related to her. Take her back first, then find Luo Dui to handle it. We still have to go up the mountain. ”

The Spirit Police officer wasted no time. After acknowledging the order, he immediately followed Zhou Fudui’s instructions, enduring the foul stench emanating from the madwoman as he hoisted her onto his back.

“Remember, you must get her to Luo Dui as fast as possible. She’s a Black Talisman Master, and once she awakens, even in her weakened state, you won’t be able to handle her. If she truly poses a problem, you’ll definitely lose your life because of it! ”

Before the Spirit Police officer departed, Zhou Fudui, feeling somewhat uneasy, offered a reminder.

“Don’t worry, Vice-Captain. Among all the Spirit Police, no one can outmatch me in speed, except for you and Luo Dui. I’ll definitely get her to Luo Dui’s hands in the shortest possible time! ”

The Spirit Police officer vowed with certainty, then at Zhou Fudui’s signal, he dashed off with the madwoman on his back. A few leaps carried him over a hundred meters away; his speed was truly remarkable.

The other three Spirit Police officers, under Zhou Fudui’s instruction, entered the madwoman’s earthen hut. It seemed they wanted to see if they could discover anything inside.

“From the video we watched earlier, that dilapidated temple on the mountain should be the main event. But with Master Emissary Yang here, I feel much more at ease. Haha, after this is over, we definitely have to have a good drink; my treat! ” Zhou Fudui said to Yang Haoran with a laugh.

Yang Haoran merely smiled, saying nothing. What they would encounter next was uncertain; no one could say for sure if they would make it out of here alive. Of course, he couldn’t voice such thoughts aloud.

A moment later, the three Spirit Police officers successively emerged from the earthen hut. They shook their heads at Zhou Fudui, clearly having found nothing remarkable.

Disappointment was evident on the faces of the three Spirit Police officers, but there was no change in expression on Yang Haoran’s and Zhou Fudui’s faces.

“Master Emissary Yang, let’s go. We’ll head up the mountain and check out that dilapidated temple. ” Zhou Fudui suggested.

“Before we ascend, let’s go check out the old farmer’s house from the video. Perhaps we might find something there. ”

Yang Haoran’s initial thought was similar to Zhou Fudui’s: whatever the opponent’s origins, they would find out once they were up the mountain.

However, after seeing the Demon Curse on the madwoman’s stomach, he felt it would be better to be more cautious.

Because this matter was very likely connected to the Demon race, and while his Spirit Power restrained ghosts, it had no effect whatsoever on Demons. If he encountered a Demon of the same level, he wouldn’t be suppressed, but he wouldn’t gain any advantage either.

Therefore, to avoid capsizing in a ditch, he felt it was better to proceed with caution.

Yang Haoran had only watched the video once, but he had observed it with extreme care. Before the streamer Happy was harmed, an old man had appeared. Although the phone hadn’t captured the old man’s appearance, through Happy’s conversation with him, Yang Haoran was certain that the old man was the Old Farmer Happy had encountered in this village.

It was precisely because of this that Yang Haoran decided to visit the Old Farmer’s house.

Zhou Fudui did not refuse Yang Haoran’s suggestion. The group of five then arrived at the Old Farmer’s house, and by comparing it to the video, they were certain they hadn’t come to the wrong place.

The Old Farmer’s house was empty, which didn’t surprise Yang Haoran. Upon their arrival, he had already used his own abilities to perceive; apart from the madwoman’s earthen hut, which had signs of life, none of the other houses contained living people.

Yang Haoran had not come here to capture the Old Farmer, as that was unrealistic. His main purpose in coming was to see if there were any other discoveries to be made.

Stepping into the Old Farmer’s earthen hut, Yang Haoran immediately sensed a faint wisp of Demon Qi. This wisp was so faint that he hadn’t noticed it before when he wasn’t close to the area.

Aside from the faint Demon Qi, Yang Haoran found nothing else in the small earthen hut. Finally, resigned, he had no choice but to leave.

The group of five left the Old Farmer’s earthen hut and hurried towards the large mountain where Happy’s incident had occurred last night.

For ordinary people, climbing a mountain was not only time-consuming but also exhausting. However, for Yang Haoran and the other four, the large mountain Happy had climbed was no different from a mere mound of earth.

Given the strength of the five, reaching the summit was easy. Especially for Yang Haoran, who could simply tear through space and teleport there directly. However, none of them rushed up the mountain at their fastest speed; instead, they controlled their pace, moving steadily towards the peak.

For the five of them knew clearly that the real danger lay within this mountain. Recklessly rushing to the summit would yield absolutely no benefit and might even cost them their lives.

Thus, after entering the mountain, the five checked for ambushes while simultaneously scouting escape routes in advance. Should they be overwhelmed, they certainly wouldn’t foolishly allow themselves to be eliminated.

The five’s caution naturally slowed their pace, but even so, their speed was still many times faster than that of ordinary people. Therefore, they soon reached the halfway point of the mountain.

From the base of the mountain to the halfway point, the five had discovered nothing. They hadn’t sensed any Demon Qi or Yin Qi, nor had they encountered any ambushes. This left them with a certain degree of doubt.

However, not long after reaching the halfway point, Yang Haoran suddenly halted, his brows furrowing almost imperceptibly.

Seeing Yang Haoran suddenly stop, Zhou Fudui and the other four immediately grew vigilant, also halting their steps.

In their view, Yang Haoran’s sudden stop at this moment could only mean he had made a discovery!

“Master Emissary Yang, what’s wrong? Did you sense something? ” Zhou Fudui asked.

“I sensed a faint wisp of Yin Qi,” Yang Haoran stated, not bothering to conceal it.

“Yin Qi? Where? At the summit? ” Zhou Fudui inquired.

Zhou Fudui wasn’t surprised that Yang Haoran had sensed Yin Qi while they hadn’t. After all, no one from the Underworld Office could compare in terms of Sensing Yin, and Yang Haoran was no ordinary Night Watcher, but an Emissary of Death. His Sense Yin ability was naturally even stronger.

However, despite not being surprised, he was very curious as to where Yang Haoran’s sensed Yin Qi originated.

In his opinion, the Yin Qi most likely came from the summit, which was why he asked this question now.

But Yang Haoran shook his head, refuting his guess.
