Chapter 263: Calling for Reinforcements

Since Happy entered the wooden house, he hadn't paid attention to the live stream, but the broadcast didn't stop because of his neglect; it continued.

However, due to the camera angle, the phone didn't capture the woman, but his conversation with the woman was broadcast to the live stream.

Initially, their conversation didn't cause much of a stir, but when Happy loudly cried for help, the chat in the live stream exploded.

Some viewers thought Happy was acting, and the fact that he deliberately didn't show them the footage proved it.

But more viewers believed that Happy wasn't acting, but had truly encountered danger, because from his heart-wrenching cries for help, they heard fear and despair.

Under these circumstances, some concerned viewers chose to call the police.

However, Happy was unaware of any of this at the moment. Panicking and fleeing blindly, he cried loudly for help while trying to escape. He looked disheveled, with numerous cuts and bruises on his body, and even a deep gash across his face from a tree branch.

He ignored his injuries; in his current situation, all he wanted was to escape this mountain. How could he care about the wounds on his body? Due to the terror in his heart, he didn't even feel the pain from his injuries.

What made Happy's heart crumble was that no matter how fast he ran, a figure pursued him, dogging him like his own shadow, and he could never shake it off.

The lightning continued, the strong wind had not stopped, and the torrential rain still fell. Happy slipped, stumbled, and fell beside a puddle, splattering his face with muddy water.

He struggled to stand up, but he discovered his foot was sprained. Not only his foot, but a sharp pain also shot through his waist.

By the light of a lightning flash, Happy horrifyingly discovered the Old Farmer not far in front of him, a bizarre smile on his face, his eyes glowing green, staring at him like a hungry wolf.

"No! Don't! Please! Let me go! Please, let me go!"

As Happy begged for mercy, he pushed himself backwards with his hands, inching towards the puddle behind him. But no sooner had his pleas fallen than a pale, swollen hand suddenly reached out from the puddle behind him, seizing his hair.

The hand was solid in appearance, yet it wasn't corporeal; it only seemed to grasp Happy's hair, but in reality, streams of Yin Qi wrapped around his entire head.

Before Happy could even comprehend what was happening, an irresistible force dragged his entire body into the puddle.

It all happened too fast. Happy didn't even have time to let out a scream before his body sank into the puddle.

The Old Farmer walked to where Happy had been. His green eyes watched the puddle, and the bizarre smile remained on his face.

"Old rules," he said. "The soul is yours, the body is ours. You'd better hurry; don't make my master wait too long."

The puddle churned with ripples, as if in response to the Old Farmer.

Throughout his flight, Happy had stumbled and fallen countless times, losing his protective amulet along the way. The Old Farmer, who had been following him all this time without immediately moving in for the kill, simply intended to drive him to this spot using the 'herding ducks' method.

Tragically, Happy never realized this until his death. He didn't even know what had dragged him into the water.

Yang Haoran was in his study, researching talismans, when the sudden ringing of his phone interrupted his thoughts.

He sighed, a wry smile appearing on his face, then put down his talisman brush and picked up the phone beside him.

When he saw the caller ID, he realized the sudden call was from Old Master Wu.

Typically, Old Master Wu wouldn't disturb Yang Haoran unless it was something urgent. Yang Haoran knew this well, and since Old Master Wu had called now, it was highly likely there was something he needed to report.

Seeing it was Old Master Wu's call, Yang Haoran didn't hesitate and answered the phone.

"Old Wu, what can I do for you? " Yang Haoran asked with a smile.

"Boss, something big has happened! " Old Master Wu's low voice came from the other end of the line.

Yang Haoran rarely heard Old Master Wu speak in such a tone. Whenever Old Master Wu used that tone, it meant something truly significant had occurred.

However, Yang Haoran remained composed. He took a cigarette from the pack beside him and asked with a smile, "What's happened? Don't rush; take your time and tell me."

"Spirit Police officers are dead, three at once!"

Yang Haoran was just about to light his cigarette when he heard this, and his hand paused. Still, he pressed the lighter and lit the cigarette in his mouth.

"What happened? Is Wang Yiming alright? " Yang Haoran asked after taking a drag from his cigarette.

"Wang Yiming is fine. As for what exactly happened, it's a long story," Old Master Wu replied.

Upon hearing that Wang Yiming was alright, Yang Haoran breathed a sigh of relief. If there was anyone among the Spirit Police he cared about most, it was naturally Wang Yiming.

"It's fine, take your time and tell me; I'll listen carefully," Yang Haoran said.

Spirit Police officers dying was no small matter. Three dying at once made it an even greater one.

There weren't many Spirit Police officers in all of Lecheng to begin with; their numbers were similar to those of the Night Watchers. Losing three at once was a significant loss with enormous repercussions.

"Last night, a young man with the online name Happy was live streaming a ghost hunt, and something went wrong. Someone in the live stream reported it to the police, who used his phone's GPS to pinpoint Happy's location. However, when the police arrived at the scene, they found Happy's backpack and phone, but neither Happy himself nor a body."

"Not only did the police fail to find Happy, but two police officers inexplicably went missing during the operation. The police tried every method imaginable but couldn't find these two officers. Since the incident was too strange, the case was handed over to the Spirit Police."

"After the regular police withdrew, the Spirit Police quickly arrived at the scene. Three Spirit Police officers were dispatched, but shortly after reaching the location, all three lost contact."

"Their Spirit Police have a special method to immediately detect the deaths of their members. Not long after the three Spirit Police officers lost contact, they confirmed that all three had met with misfortune."

"To be able to eliminate three Spirit Police officers in such a short time, the opponent's strength is clearly not weak. So, the Spirit Police dispatched five more officers, led personally by Vice-Captain Zhou Fudui. Furthermore, they sent us a request for aid, hoping we could send two stronger Night Watchers to assist, as they fear the opponent might be a ghostly entity."

"This is no small matter; the danger is considerable. If our Night Watchers go to assist, they could very likely lose their lives there. I couldn't make a decision, which is why I'm reporting this to you, Boss."

Old Master Wu reported the entire sequence of events to Yang Haoran in one breath. As he said, the matter was too dangerous; sending Night Watchers to assist would likely be sending them to their deaths. He didn't dare make the decision on his own, so he hoped Yang Haoran would decide.

"So that's what happened."

Yang Haoran flicked his cigarette ash, then gently tapped his fingers on the table, a thoughtful expression on his face, as if weighing the pros and cons.

"Boss, the Spirit Police are still waiting for our reply. Should we send aid? " Old Master Wu asked.

"Aid must certainly be provided. After all, this is part of our cooperation. However, we can't send ordinary Night Watchers this time. I don't want to see them go to their deaths."

Old Master Wu nodded in agreement, then waited for Yang Haoran to continue.

"Have Vice-Captain Zhou Fudui and his team departed? " Yang Haoran asked.

"Due to the urgency of the situation, they have already departed," Old Master Wu replied.

"Alright then, call Vice-Captain Zhou Fudui back and tell him our reinforcements will arrive shortly," Yang Haoran said.

"Yes, Boss. But who should we send? " Old Master Wu asked.

"Who to send? " Yang Haoran's finger paused its tapping on the table, and the smile on his face deepened. He then chuckled, "Well, I don't have anything better to do, so I'll go take a look myself."

"Ah? " Old Master Wu's tone instantly changed when he heard this, and he exclaimed in surprise, "You're going personally? Isn't that a bit. . . much?"
