Chapter 228: Birth (Part Five)
"Let's go, we need to get out of here quickly. Lecheng is no longer safe for us."
Inside the room, on the large bed, the woman, her face etched with anxiety, urged the man beside her.
This woman was none other than Zhong Siyu's mother.
Ten years had passed, yet time had left few traces on her face. This wasn't merely due to her meticulous care, but also greatly owed to her delicate, ageless features.
Of course, she wasn't particularly old to begin with; even after a decade, she was still only twenty-seven.
Lying beside the woman was a man, shirtless, a cigarette dangling from his lips. He paid no mind to her anxious pleas, even letting a look of disdain cross his face.
The man wasn't particularly old either, appearing to be only twenty-four or twenty-five, a few years younger than the woman.
"What's there to be afraid of? Don't I have your back? Do you think I'm a coward, like all your other men? " The man glanced at the woman, lit his cigarette, took a contented drag, and then spoke with a sneer.
The woman's expression shifted, becoming rather unpleasant. She retorted in displeasure, "What are you talking about? What other men?"
The woman's face changed again. She hadn't expected the man to know these things, nor had she anticipated him suddenly bringing up such old history at this critical juncture.
However, not only did the woman not intend to admit anything, but she deliberately put on a stern face.
"I don't know who you heard these things from, but if you believe them, then I'm truly disappointed."
"Disappointed?"
The man sneered, bit down on the cigarette filter, took a deep drag, and then blew the smoke towards the woman.
The woman frowned, her expression uncomfortable. Although she fanned away some of the smoke with her hand, it still made her cough a fit.
The man ignored the woman's reaction, tutted a few times, and continued, "Tsk, tsk, truly quite the act. Not only can you put on a show down there, but up here too, and even your heart is capable of such pretense. Impressive, truly impressive!"
"Cough, cough. . . What nonsense are you spouting? What time is it? Do you still have the mood for games?"
The woman reprimanded him indignantly, a wronged expression actually appearing on her face, and glistening tears welled up in her large eyes. She got into character remarkably quickly.
The man laughed heartily and said, "Games? When it comes to games, I'm far inferior to you. Not only did you love playing before you were married, but you still love playing after marriage, and you've even become quite the master of it. You don't need to keep up the act. I know you have several other men besides me right now. A while ago, I even fought one of them – a very clean-cut young fellow, much younger than me. Judging by his pathetic appearance, he must have been only seventeen or eighteen. How could he possibly be my match in a fight?"
At these words, the woman's expression stiffened, and then a flicker of worry crossed her face.
"Are you worried about him? " the man asked with a smile.
This time, the woman didn't speak. Whether it was because she couldn't hide it anymore, or because she was genuinely worried about the man he spoke of, she remained silent.
"You truly are quite the flirt. You were like this before you married that pile of cow dung, and you're still like this after. But it seems you have a special fondness for 'young grass. ' When you came looking for me back then, I was quite 'tender' myself. What, are you saying you find me old now that I'm only twenty-four? " The man asked with a cold laugh.
"When did I ever find you old? It's been years now, when have you ever seen me complain about your age? Haven't I been good enough to you? Your house, your car, your monthly allowance – which of those wasn't given by me? If I found you old, would I do all this? And those people you mentioned, while they might be close to me, they're just my younger brothers. 'Toy boys,' 'young grass' – am I really as depraved as you make me out to be?"
The woman's emotions suddenly flared, her voice growing louder and louder. Large, pearl-like tears streamed from her eyes, making her appear utterly pitiful.
"Clap, clap, clap. . ."
The man, cigarette still in his mouth, scoffed and applauded. Then he took one last deep drag, spat out the entire cigarette butt, and looked at the woman with a smile.
"You don't need to get worked up, and you certainly don't need to lie to me. Do you know why? Because I have confidence in myself. None of them are my match, they simply can't compare to me. You know very well how powerful I am; I can truly satisfy you, while they cannot. That's why you've replaced them batch after batch, yet I'm still here."
"I—"
The woman tried to say something more, but the man pounced like a hungry wolf, pushing her down onto the bed.
The woman's body went limp. Not only did she completely forget that she should have been urging the man to leave, but she instead writhed on the bed, allowing him to have his way with her.
Lust is a knife above the head. This saying was absolutely true. Whether male or female, once obsessed with 'lust,' suffering losses was only a matter of time.
After a round of passionate lovemaking, both lay on the bed, faces filled with contentment. The man lit another cigarette, while the woman suddenly remembered something, her satisfied and blissful expression vanishing as she once again urged the man.
"Listen to me, let's leave here first. I feel incredibly uneasy right now, as if something major is about to happen."
The man snorted disdainfully, a cigarette dangling from his lips, and mumbled, "What the hell is there to be afraid of? That pile of cow dung at your house loves you so much. As long as you play your part naturally, he'll definitely choose to forgive you, and then he'll very likely give me a huge sum of New Beginning Coins to get rid of me."
The woman's face subtly shifted. She used to be quite confident in deceiving her husband, but this time, she just felt uneasy.
Beyond that, she also heard another meaning in the man's words: her lover was clearly after money. If her husband truly did offer a large sum of New Beginning Coins, would this man really choose to leave her?
Seeing the woman remain silent, the man took a drag from his cigarette and chuckled, "Heh heh, if we really just up and leave like this, how will I face anyone in the future? My brothers on the street will probably think I'm afraid of that pile of cow dung you married. Besides, what about your daughter? Are you just going to abandon her? Are you willing to leave her behind?"
"If a daughter is gone, I can have another. The master leads the way, but cultivation relies on oneself. I gave her life, I brought her into this world, but how she lives is her own business. What does that have to do with me? Am I supposed to protect her for her entire life? Besides, she's living a more comfortable life in the Zhong family than I am. Why should I worry about her?"
The woman's words were shocking. As a mother, not only did she feel no guilt whatsoever, but she even believed her actions were perfectly justified.
The man laughed heartily and said, "You make a lot of sense. Children and grandchildren have their own fortunes, right? You bestowed life upon her, allowing her to descend into this colorful world; she should be grateful to you, shouldn't she? If you always have to consider her in everything, then how are you supposed to live your own life?"
If two people's values differed, it would be difficult for them to stay together. But if both were cut from the same cloth, then resonance came easily. This conversation between them, while utterly unbelievable to most, was nothing but truth in their eyes.
The woman nodded in strong agreement, saying, "Life is only a few short decades; if we don't live wildly now, we'll get old. I certainly don't want to ruin my lifelong happiness because of one child. When I gave birth to her, it was just to distract him, not to add a burden to myself."
The man took another drag from his cigarette and chuckled, "That's true, but have you considered one thing? If you really leave the Zhong family, what about our future expenses? Money is indispensable for survival in this world. As a man, if I don't have money, people will laugh at me, call me a poor bastard, say I'm a good-for-nothing. Besides, you know I need money for cards. Without some cash on me, how am I supposed to gamble in the future? By running up a tab?"
The woman seemed to have considered this point long ago, and the smugness in her heart banished her anxiety and dissatisfaction with the man. She smiled sweetly and said, "Don't worry, I've already thought about that. Over the years, I've managed to extract quite a bit of money from him, piece by piece. This money is enough for us to squander for the rest of our lives."
The man's expression brightened with joy, his eyes gleaming. He removed the cigarette from his mouth, pulled the woman into a fierce embrace, and kissed her several times.
"My darling, well done! " The man burst into boisterous laughter, extremely excited.
"Heh heh, just kidding. I'm not a public bus, where anyone can just hop on. I've been married to him for eleven years. Although I only sleep with him a few times a year, I've still invested my time and effort. Shouldn't he pay for my youth?"
Just as she finished speaking, the room door was suddenly kicked open. The two, caught in their joyous mood, were startled simultaneously.
