Chapter 1449: Sea Demons (Part 2)
The water tornadoes approached at an astonishing speed, their momentum terrifying, like several water dragons intent on pulverizing everything in their path.
Simultaneously, to the right of Yang Haoran and his companions, the surface of the sea fractured as a colossal creature leaped forth, capturing their gaze.
It was a monstrous fish, immense in size and grotesque in appearance. Its scales gleamed with a cold light. The instant it broke the surface, its cavernous maw yawned wide, revealing a set of sharp fangs, and a beastial roar reverberated through heaven and earth.
Roar! ! !
Under the deafening roar, the sea surface trembled violently, countless tiny water droplets detaching from the waves, quivering at the sound. As the roar subsided, the monstrous fish plunged back into the depths, stirring up towering waves.
To the left of Yang Haoran and his companions, a thick layer of mist suddenly appeared on the distant sea. This mist, a dark green hue, exuded a potent Demon Qi. From afar, one could faintly discern colossal figures churning within the demonic fog.
Behind Yang Haoran and his companions, the commotion was equally significant. Two human-bodied, fish-headed monsters, each wielding a long halberd, rapidly traversed the boiling sea on green demonic clouds, shooting swiftly towards the island where Yang Haoran and his companions stood.
This sea area, moments ago calm and placid, was now boiling, as if the world was ending. Yet, the dangers manifest on the surface were merely the tip of the iceberg; beneath the unseen waters, the peril was several times greater than above.
"Heh heh, all great demons, and there's even a Demon King whose strength is considerable. It seems these great demons are most likely serving this Demon King, and this sea area must be his territory."
As his words faded, the several water tornadoes ahead drew ever closer, and the dangers from the other three directions were also rapidly approaching.
Facing this situation, Yang Haoran remained unhurried, his gaze falling upon Zhong Siyu. He saw that Zhong Siyu's expression was rather displeased, even radiating a murderous aura. Yang Haoran knew that Zhong Siyu wore this look not because the three of them were currently surrounded by numerous monsters, but because of him, Yang Haoran. As if sensing his gaze, Zhong Siyu turned to look at Yang Haoran, glaring at him fiercely.
"Why are you looking at me? Handle it yourself. I'm not your servant; our relationship is one of equals!"
Zhong Siyu understood why Yang Haoran was looking at her at this moment. Without a second thought, she directly refused Yang Haoran.
No sooner had Zhong Siyu's words fallen than the several water tornadoes ahead were already upon them, showing no intention of stopping. The monsters attacking from the other three directions, however, did not advance further, maintaining a certain distance from the isolated island, seemingly unwilling to be affected by the water tornadoes' assault.
The power fluctuations emanating from these water tornadoes were exceptionally formidable. Based on Yang Haoran's experience, the one who launched this attack was undoubtedly a monster that had reached the Demon King realm.
Ma Ling saw the water tornadoes about to engulf the isolated island. Not only did Zhong Siyu show no intention of helping, but Yang Haoran, steady as an old dog, also had no intention of acting. This left her speechless. She certainly didn't want to be swallowed by these water tornadoes, so she had no choice but to defend herself.
"You said you'd protect me, but in the end, I still have to act myself."
Ma Ling muttered inwardly, yet her hands moved swiftly. With a flick of her wrist, she conjured several Formation Flags. The flags shot skyward, dispersing and planting themselves methodically across various points of the isolated island. Immediately after, an Array Disk appeared in her hand. She pressed a finger onto the disk, infusing it with power. A curtain of light shimmered into existence, enveloping a hundred-meter radius around the three of them. The very instant this light curtain formed, the several water tornadoes, fierce and menacing, slammed into it.
Boom!
Boom!
Boom! The several water tornadoes successively impacted the light curtain released by the formation. The light curtain shook violently, but the water tornadoes did not retreat. Instead, they redirected themselves, continuously slamming into the light curtain, seemingly vowing not to stop until it was utterly shattered.
Just a single round of impacts from the water tornadoes had left the light curtain teetering. Repeated impacts, of course, were more than the light curtain could endure. Even though Ma Ling continuously channeled more power into the Array Disk in her hand, she failed to stabilize the light curtain, which trembled with increasing intensity.
Ma Ling's prowess lay in her formations. If given enough time, she could undoubtedly set up powerful formations to successfully defend against incoming attacks. However, the incident happened too suddenly, leaving her no time to deploy a formidable grand formation. She could only quickly arrange a defensive formation. Naturally, such an impromptu formation had limited defensive capabilities; while sufficient against opponents of equal rank, it became incredibly passive when facing foes far stronger than herself.
However, Ma Ling was no pushover. Years of combat had long since endowed her with rich battle experience. She knew that the formation she had hastily set up with the Formation Flags could not successfully withstand the attack of several water tornadoes. Thus, while strenuously controlling the Array Disk in her hand, she simultaneously summoned several more Formation Flags from her independent space through sheer force of will.
Under her mental command, the several Formation Flags scattered, implanting themselves methodically around them. Their coverage area was similar to the previous set of flags, but the two sets were not placed in the exact same regions, and the second set only consisted of flags, with no Array Disk.
As the second set of Formation Flags precisely embedded themselves into the ground, a powerful surge of energy erupted. Simultaneously, the light curtain released by the first set of flags shattered with a resounding crash, no longer able to withstand the furious assault of the water tornadoes.
Boom! ! !
Roar! ! !
The light curtain shattered with an explosive sound, and at the same instant, a deafening beastial roar echoed. A colossal lion, its entire body ablaze with roaring flames, soared into the sky. This very deafening roar was emitted by this flaming lion.
Boom!
Boom!
Boom!
The flaming lion moved through the air as if on solid ground, rapidly colliding with the water tornadoes that were poised to strike the island. With each impact, one water tornado was inevitably dispersed, but the flaming lion's body would shrink slightly, and its power diminish a little.
In just the blink of an eye, all the water tornadoes were dispersed, transforming into a sky full of mist. The massive flaming lion, too, dissipated into specks of light as its power was exhausted. The very instant the flaming lion's body turned into shimmering light and vanished, the second set of Formation Flags that Ma Ling had conjured with her will shattered with crisp snaps, every single one, becoming useless scraps. Conversely, the first set of Formation Flags remained completely undamaged.
The flaming lion was the embodiment of the second set of Formation Flags' power. Not only was its might formidable, but it also destroyed several powerful water tornadoes solely through Ma Ling's mental command as an Array Master, without any Array Disk control. However, the price Ma Ling paid was considerable; the entire set of flags was directly rendered useless from being overdrawn. In contrast, the first set of flags, controlled by the Array Disk, failed to block the water tornadoes, yet at least the entire set remained completely undamaged.
Whether destroying several water tornadoes at the cost of one set of Formation Flags was worth it, different people would naturally have different opinions. Although Ma Ling felt a twinge of heartache, she had her reasons for doing so.
As the several water tornadoes were neutralized by Ma Ling, at the cost of one set of Formation Flags, the sea did not calm. Instead, it grew even more tempestuous, like an enraged ancient beast.
Boom!
Boom!
Boom!
The boiling sea surface continuously exploded, massive figures breaking through the waves and rising into the air. Accompanied by incessant, bloody, and violent roars, colossal sea demons hovered in the sky, streams of seawater cascading from their bodies like rivers flowing into the ocean below. Their large, round eyes were all fixed on Yang Haoran and his companions, staring down at them with varying expressions.
The eyes of these sea demons held expressions ranging from bloody cruelty to disdain, from playful mockery to eager anticipation. The only thing absent was fear. From their gazes, it was clear that they did not hold Yang Haoran and his companions in any regard, and even Ma Ling's recent act of dispelling the water tornadoes had not changed that in the slightest.
