Chapter 1410: Fighting for Survival

"This shield is named Xuanwu. There's nothing special about it, besides its incredible hardness. If you have the ability, then smash it!"

The Tong Continent Great Emperor said coldly. As he spoke, he violently waved his hand, and a sword-shaped artifact, formed from coalesced Yin Qi, condensed beside him.

Although the Tong Continent Great Emperor truly disliked the Xuanwu Shield, viewing it as a turtle shell, he did not deny its defensive power. However, because he detested this 'turtle shell' from the bottom of his heart, and with rage burning within him, he didn't elaborate much on the shield's might. A simple declaration of its 'hardness' was enough to summarize its ability.

Whether the Xuanwu Shield was truly hard enough didn't require the Tong Continent Great Emperor to explain. Yang Haoran could see it for himself. After all, he had witnessed firsthand the Xuanwu Shield blocking his previous wave of attacks.

Furthermore, Yang Haoran didn't believe the Xuanwu Shield could only be used for defense. After all, the Xuanwu Shield wasn't an offensive Soul Armament like Black Lightning, nor was it a special type of Soul Armament like Ghost Butterfly. The Xuanwu Shield's primary ability was indeed defense; there was no doubt about that. But apart from defense, the Xuanwu Shield could still be used to attack enemies. For instance, it could be used to smash or ram, all of which were feasible. It was just that its effectiveness would certainly not match that of a truly offensive Soul Armament, but that didn't mean the Xuanwu Shield couldn't play any role in that regard.

Previously, the Tong Continent Great Emperor summoning just one Soul Armament had already been overwhelming for Yang Haoran. Now, with the Tong Continent Great Emperor having summoned two Soul Armaments, the pressure weighing on Yang Haoran's heart was immense, to say the least.

As the battle progressed, even if Yang Haoran was reluctant to see this outcome, he had to admit that his struggle with the Tong Continent Great Emperor was about to enter a fever pitch. He genuinely wanted to buy himself as much time as possible, but given the current circumstances, achieving that would require him to unleash even more methods. This was because the Tong Continent Great Emperor, having unleashed two Soul Armaments, possessed combat power far exceeding his previous display. If Yang Haoran didn't bring forth more techniques, he would soon die a miserable death at the Tong Continent Great Emperor's hands, failing to achieve his goal of buying time.

Of course, even if he unleashed all his methods, Yang Haoran estimated it would be extremely difficult to hold out against the Tong Continent Great Emperor until the Absolute Prohibition dissipated. Even if he somehow managed to endure until then, his state at that point would make a successful escape from the Tong Continent Great Emperor highly improbable. To be precise, it wasn't just improbable, it was exceedingly slim!

Nevertheless, Yang Haoran didn't abandon his will to survive because of this, nor was he prepared to give up and let the Tong Continent Great Emperor slaughter him at will. He had already made up his mind: even if he truly met his end at the Tong Continent Great Emperor's hands, he would still fight with all his might to take a bite out of him. This was his final act of defiance!

After a brief moment of thought, Yang Haoran made his decision. Aside from the Dānyào that would cause him side effects, which he temporarily wouldn't use, he resolved to unleash all his other methods. Only by doing so would he have a chance to fight, and potentially buy himself a little more time. Otherwise, he would simply be crushed by the Tong Continent Great Emperor, unable to retaliate even as he died, and buying time would be mere wishful thinking.

As for whether he could persist until the Absolute Prohibition vanished, that could only be left to fate!

With his decision firm in his mind, Yang Haoran's expression turned grim as he gritted his teeth, and proactively launched an attack on the Tong Continent Great Emperor. As before, Remnant Moon, Black Lightning, and the blood slave formed the main offensive, while Ghost Butterfly was responsible for amplifying the power of the two Soul Armaments.

The Tong Continent Great Emperor let out a cold snort, and with a flick of his finger at the Xuanwu Shield before him, the Xuanwu Shield released a powerful wave of energy. Its size instantly expanded, looming like a small mountain before him, blocking Yang Haoran's assault.

Boom!

Boom!

Boom!

All of Yang Haoran's attacks were completely blocked by the Xuanwu Shield. Just like before, these attacks inflicted minimal damage on the Xuanwu Shield, a defensive Soul Armament. Breaking through the Xuanwu Shield was no simple feat. At least from the current situation, Yang Haoran's attacks were simply incapable of shattering the Xuanwu Shield. They could only serve a distracting purpose.

However, three Soul Armaments plus a powerful demonic artifact, could only tie down one of the opponent's Soul Armaments. From anyone's perspective, this was a loss. It also highlighted the disparity in their respective situations.

The Tong Continent Great Emperor merely glanced at the Xuanwu Shield, which resembled a small mountain and was currently enduring Yang Haoran's fierce assault. He then withdrew his gaze and looked at the sword-shaped Soul Armament by his side, seemingly not at all worried that the Xuanwu Shield would shatter.

"Go! " The Tong Continent Great Emperor waved his large hand, and the sword-shaped Soul Armament emitted a sword cry, transforming into a black streak of light that slashed towards Yang Haoran. Although the Xuanwu Shield in front of him obstructed the Tong Continent Great Emperor's vision, his spiritual perception was in no way inferior to his physical sight, and some of its capabilities even surpassed those of the naked eye. Thus, even if he couldn't see Yang Haoran with his eyes, he could still accurately pinpoint Yang Haoran's location through his powerful spiritual perception. Even if Yang Haoran moved rapidly, it wouldn't affect his lock.

Yang Haoran's spiritual perception was not as keen as that of the Tong Continent Great Emperor, who was of a higher cultivation realm, but his spiritual perception was by no means poor either. At the very least, it was far beyond what an Earth Soul realm expert could compare to. Therefore, the instant the Tong Continent Great Emperor moved to control the sword-shaped Soul Armament, Yang Haoran immediately sensed it.

Yang Haoran didn't form hand seals to cast a Ghost Art, because he knew that in the current situation, there was simply no time to form hand seals and unleash a Ghost Art. Forcing himself to do so would only lead to one outcome: he would be decapitated by the sword-shaped Soul Armament before his Ghost Art could even be successfully unleashed.

The blood slave and his three Soul Armaments were all ferociously assaulting the Xuanwu Shield. Furthermore, their distance from him, their master, was not short. It was clearly unrealistic to use them to block the sword-shaped Soul Armament. Therefore, if he wanted to defend against the sword-shaped Soul Armament and avoid dying by its blade, he had to employ other methods.

Yang Haoran dared not delay for even a moment. His face grim, he forcefully waved both hands, and countless talismans were unleashed by him. Every single one of these talismans had been crafted by his own hand, without exception!

In order to rapidly enhance his abilities as a Talisman Master, Yang Haoran, besides collecting talisman seeds and using teleportation to boost the Talisman Spirit Power within him, also needed to expend vast amounts of resources for drawing talismans. Thus, while his Talisman Master rank had steadily climbed over the years, the number of talismans he had drawn had also reached a terrifying magnitude.

He had long since disposed of the lower-quality talismans. Any talisman he had kept, was without exception high-quality and staggering in number.

The talismans he unleashed now, were mostly top-tier Black Talismans, with a few Gold Talismans interspersed among them. Under his control, these talismans converged, forming a lifelike talisman dragon that charged towards the sword-shaped Soul Armament.

Boom!

Boom!

Boom!

Explosions reverberated continuously. The talisman dragon and the sword-shaped Soul Armament collided, creating a rare visual spectacle. Vibrant colors flashed, dazzling the eyes. Various powers surged, as if mountains of ice, seas of fire, and fierce gales manifested. The energies of different elements filled the air, raging uncontrollably.

The Tong Continent Great Emperor watched this scene, and the disdain on his face not only didn't lessen but intensified a few degrees.

Yang Haoran's move was indeed imposing, and certainly seemed intimidating, but it held no weight in his eyes. This was because the vast majority of talismans Yang Haoran unleashed were merely Black Talismans, and the number of Gold Talismans wasn't substantial. In his view, even if such talismans were numerous, they wouldn't significantly affect his Soul Armament, let alone shatter it. Therefore, he simply didn't take Yang Haoran's wave of attacks to heart. Unless there were Spirit Talismans among those Yang Haoran unleashed, after all, in his opinion, among all talismans, only Spirit Talismans could pose a threat to an existence of his realm.

"Eh?"

However, just as this thought surfaced in the Tong Continent Great Emperor's mind, a gasp of surprise escaped his lips, and the expression on his face suddenly changed.

The Tong Continent Great Emperor's sudden change was due to the fact that he sensed the sword-shaped Soul Armament's power mysteriously weakening. He was, after all, the master of the sword-shaped Soul Armament, and any change in it would be immediately sensed by him.

The reason he described it as 'mysterious' was because, in his view, his Soul Armament, when facing Yang Haoran's talisman attacks, even if it sustained some damage, should absolutely not experience a weakening of power. Those talismans were simply incapable of achieving that. Thus, when he sensed the sword-shaped Soul Armament's power rapidly diminishing, he couldn't help but let out a gasp of surprise, and found this phenomenon utterly bizarre.

What the Tong Continent Great Emperor found even more unexpected was that this mysterious phenomenon didn't vanish immediately, but continued!
