Chapter 1394: The Great Emperor Makes His Move
The reason Old Master Wu felt he still had a chance to go to Phoenix Fall Mountain to see Bai Xue was that his mission was to arrange for the evacuation of personnel. Phoenix Fall Mountain was merely a transfer point, not the final destination. After completing the evacuation of the Guardian District personnel, he would still need to proceed to Phoenix Fall Mountain to continue the evacuation mission.
However, he couldn't be certain if Yang Haoran would still be able to go to Phoenix Fall Mountain to see Bai Xue. That was because Yang Haoran was responsible for covering their retreat, buying them time to transfer. This matter was exceedingly dangerous, which was why he dared not assume Yang Haoran would survive.
Let alone his uncertainty, he believed that even Yang Haoran himself probably couldn't be sure if he would survive, and this was the source of his inner helplessness.
In truth, just like Bai Xue, he also greatly wished to help Yang Haoran. However, Yang Haoran had given him a strict order: to oversee the transfer of personnel. Although this mission didn't involve fighting their opponents to the death like Yang Haoran's, it was equally crucial and couldn't be neglected. Therefore, despite his strong desire to help Yang Haoran, he could only choose to abandon that thought for the sake of completing his assignment.
Furthermore, he knew perfectly well that even if he abandoned the personnel transfer to help Yang Haoran, Yang Haoran would absolutely not be pleased. On the contrary, he would be profoundly disappointed in him. Just as he had told Bai Xue earlier, his presence would not only become a burden to Yang Haoran but also a hindrance. Therefore, completing his own mission according to Yang Haoran's orders was what he truly ought to be doing at the moment.
With Bai Xue heading to Phoenix Fall Mountain, Old Master Wu could finally put one concern to rest. His biggest worry was Bai Xue doing something foolish. Now that Bai Xue had been successfully sent away, he naturally no longer needed to fret over that matter. What he needed to do next was find Zhong Siyu and secure a powerful helper for Yang Haoran!
Inside Yang Haoran's study, the Tong Continent Great Emperor's brows furrowed tightly once more. There were two reasons for his renewed frown.
One reason was that he still couldn't detect the power fluctuations of his two Guardian subordinates. The other reason was that he sensed spatial fluctuations successively appearing throughout the Guardian District. Not only the Guardian District, but under his perception, the entire city of Lecheng seemed to be experiencing this, as if it were bustling with activity.
Furthermore, while Lecheng was bustling and populous as the city where Yang Haoran's Guardian District was located, the repeated and successive spatial tremors throughout the city, one after another without respite, were clearly abnormal. Moreover, such a situation had not occurred before.
Thus, whether it was the first reason or the second, nothing seemed right to the Tong Continent Great Emperor.
"Is Yang Haoran playing some trick? Does he really dare to do this?"
The Tong Continent Great Emperor muttered to himself, his tone laced with uncertainty. He genuinely found it hard to believe Yang Haoran would dare to play tricks in front of him, but if Yang Haoran wasn't behind this, then how else could the current situation be explained?
After a brief contemplation, with the power fluctuations of his two Guardian subordinates still absent and the spatial tremors throughout Lecheng persisting, he finally couldn't sit still any longer. With a somber expression, he rose from his seat.
"Yang Haoran, if you truly dare to play tricks on me, then today will be your dying day. This Guardian District will become your burial ground!"
The Tong Continent Great Emperor spoke coldly, a hint of murderous intent in his voice. Then, his figure flickered and vanished from the study, reappearing above the Guardian District, looking down upon it from a commanding height.
Under his gaze, the Guardian District below wasn't in disarray, but eerily, he saw very few figures. The once bustling Guardian District had suddenly become desolate and quiet, as if the people who should have been there had simply vanished into thin air. Instead, spatial fluctuations emanated from several buildings within the Guardian District, which he easily perceived.
Such an abnormal sight confirmed the Tong Continent Great Emperor's suspicions: Yang Haoran must have secretly pulled some trick after leaving the study, otherwise, the scene he was witnessing simply couldn't be explained.
"Spatial tremors, clearly caused by tearing space. Is Yang Haoran trying to get his subordinates to leave this place via spatial teleportation? " Thinking this, the Tong Continent Great Emperor let out a cold snort. His gaze then locked onto a particular building where the spatial tremors were far more intense than in other areas. With anger and uncertainty in his heart, he vigorously swung his arm at the building. A dense surge of Spirit Power whistled forth, blasting towards it. In the blink of an eye, the Spirit Power struck the building.
Boom! ! !
With a tremendous crash, the building collapsed, utterly unable to withstand the Tong Continent Great Emperor's casual strike.
This building had no restrictive barrier set up, because once such a barrier was in place, the people inside would be unable to tear through space. After all, tearing space within a restrictive barrier required absolute strength; not everyone with the ability to tear space could do so inside a barrier.
If space couldn't be torn, then transferring personnel through spatial rifts would be impossible. This was why no restrictive barrier had been set up in this building.
It wasn't just this building; at present, anyone responsible for tearing space within any building where the Tong Continent Great Emperor could sense spatial fluctuations did not possess the ability to tear space from within a restrictive barrier. If they did, they would certainly have set up such barriers. Doing so would not only provide a certain defensive effect but, more importantly, would prevent spatial fluctuations from being sensed by those outside the barrier. If they had that capability, they would, of course, choose to do so.
As the building collapsed, surges of power suddenly erupted from beneath the rubble.
Boom!
Boom!
Boom!
Explosions resounded continuously. With each blast, a figure would burst through the rubble and shoot out, suspending themselves in mid-air. In just a short while, over a dozen figures appeared above the ruins.
All dozen or so individuals were from the Underworld Office. Apart from two dressed in the Death God attire of Emissaries of Death, the rest wore the Death God attire of Night Watchers. The reason the spatial fluctuations emanating from their building were somewhat stronger than those in other areas was that these two Emissaries of Death were simultaneously opening spatial rifts.
Although these dozen or so individuals wore different Death God attire, they were all undeniably agents of the Underworld Office. Beyond that, they shared another commonality: all of them were currently injured. The two Emissaries of Death were relatively better off, but the Night Watchers were in a much worse state, all severely wounded and looking disheveled. Their injuries were all thanks to the Tong Continent Great Emperor's casual strike.
Given the Tong Continent Great Emperor's strength, even a casual strike possessed formidable power. His recent casual attack was merely intended to destroy the building and force out those inside, to ascertain what exactly Yang Haoran was up to. Otherwise, all dozen or so individuals, whether Emissaries of Death or Night Watchers, would absolutely have become corpses. Not a single one would have survived.
At this moment, these dozen or so individuals were furious, because their lives had very nearly been buried beneath the rubble just moments ago. Everything had been fine until a sudden, inexplicable order from above commanded them to immediately transfer to Phoenix Fall Mountain. Their hearts were filled with both confusion and speechless exasperation, along with a sense of unease.
Their moods were already unpleasant, and now they had almost lost their lives, naturally increasing their fury. They were filled with murderous intent towards the one who had destroyed the building. So, as soon as they had been buried beneath the ruins, they all unleashed the full extent of their power fluctuations. This was both a display of force to their opponent and a means to more easily escape from beneath the rubble.
Before them, there had only been one person in the sky above the ruins, and they had only sensed the power fluctuations of that single individual. This meant that the one who had attacked must be that person.
However, when they burst out from the rubble and clearly saw who the attacker was, their fierce, man-eating expressions froze on their faces without exception!
