Chapter 1361: Bai Xue Awakens
Upon receiving Xiang Chuan’s Communication Talisman, Yang Haoran immediately rushed to the Medicine God Society and saw Bai Xue, who had awakened from her coma.
In just two days, the critically ill Bai Xue had awakened. This was thanks to the Dānyào Yang Haoran had given her, as well as the efforts of the two Pharmacists, Xiang Chuan and Feng Xiao.
Had it not been for this, whether Bai Xue could even survive would have been an unknown, let alone regaining consciousness in just two days.
The newly awakened Bai Xue was still very weak; she couldn't speak or move her body. She had merely regained consciousness, not fully recovered. Her injuries remained severe, which was why she was in such a state.
For Yang Haoran, however, Bai Xue’s awakening was good news; at the very least, it was better than her remaining in a comatose state.
Bai Xue noticed Yang Haoran’s arrival. With effort, she parted her lips, intending to say something, but Yang Haoran stopped her with a word.
"Heh heh, your current physical condition is still quite poor, so don't force yourself to speak."
Yang Haoran spoke, his tone gentle and a smile on his face. Bai Xue’s laboriously opened mouth did not close immediately; instead, she used all her strength to softly utter the word "good" before finally shutting her lips.
Yang Haoran had rushed over immediately, primarily to confirm Bai Xue’s current physical condition and also to glean some information about what had transpired that day. However, judging by Bai Xue’s current state, he couldn't yet obtain any details from her. After all, she expended all her strength just to speak a single word; in such a condition, Bai Xue simply couldn't convey everything she knew to him.
"You should rest well first. Don't overthink anything, and there's no need to worry about your safety. Unless the enemy has the power to destroy my entire Guardian District, no one here can harm you in the slightest."
A smile on his face, Yang Haoran gently patted Bai Xue’s head and spoke in a mild tone.
Though Bai Xue couldn't speak, the look of gratitude in her eyes conveyed everything.
Next, Yang Haoran gave instructions to Feng Xiao and Xiang Chuan. The message was simple: take good care of Bai Xue and ensure she recovered as quickly as possible. If anything was needed, they were to retrieve it directly from the storeroom. If the storeroom didn't have it, they were to tell him, and he would find a way to acquire it. In short, no matter the method or the resources consumed, Bai Xue had to recover in the shortest possible time.
After giving his instructions to the two, Yang Haoran still felt a degree of unease. He once more urged Bai Xue to rest and recover properly before finally leaving the hospital room.
Yang Haoran had come in haste and departed just as swiftly. His presence offered little benefit; not only could he not assist in Bai Xue’s treatment, but he might also hinder its normal progress. Therefore, he simply chose to leave.
After leaving the Medicine God Society, Yang Haoran contacted Shui Ling and Tang Shi separately, inquiring about the progress of their investigations into the mastermind behind the events.
Although Bai Xue had now been found, her life saved, and she had regained consciousness, there was still one person missing: Xiao Kang.
Yang Haoran was equally worried about Xiao Kang’s safety, no less so than when he worried about Bai Xue. After all, he had watched Xiao Kang grow up and personally nurtured him. Although he had no children of his own, he had always regarded Xiao Kang as his adopted son, and his feelings for the boy ran deep. With Xiao Kang’s whereabouts unknown, how could he not be worried?
Both Shui Ling and Tang Shi had made some progress in their investigations, though the advancements were minor. While this outcome somewhat disappointed Yang Haoran, he had no intention of blaming them. After all, too little time had passed, and neither of them were gods. Expecting them to thoroughly investigate the matter in such a short period was indeed asking too much. He was not the type of person who would insist on making a rooster lay eggs, so naturally, he wouldn't mindlessly reprimand the two.
Nevertheless, applying appropriate pressure to them was a necessary measure.
In the blink of an eye, two more days passed. Yang Haoran returned to the Medicine God Society. Through Xiang Chuan’s daily reports on Bai Xue’s recovery, Yang Haoran learned that while Bai Xue was still a long way from full recovery, she could now communicate normally with others without any issues.
Upon hearing this news, Yang Haoran immediately set aside his tasks and once again rushed to the Medicine God Society to see Bai Xue.
Compared to two days prior, Bai Xue still appeared weak today, but her complexion was noticeably better than before.
When Yang Haoran arrived, Bai Xue motioned for Bai Jiumeng to help her sit up, leaning her back gently against the hospital bed.
For the past few days, whenever Bai Jiumeng finished her tasks, she would come to the Medicine God Society to look after Bai Xue. Even though Bai Xue was being cared for by carefully selected female Pharmacists from the Medicine God Society, Bai Jiumeng still made time each day to attend to her.
It wasn't just Bai Jiumeng; the high-ranking members of the Flock of Demons Society would also visit Bai Xue whenever they had time. After all, both the Flock of Demons Society and the Medicine God Society were within the Guardian District, so visiting Bai Xue was not troublesome. Moreover, each visit allowed them to gain a new understanding of Bai Xue’s condition.
The high-ranking members of the Flock of Demons Society were not appointed by Yang Haoran, but by Bai Xue and Huang Sha. Among them were Huang Sha’s confidantes and, naturally, Bai Xue’s own trusted individuals. Regardless of whose confidante, with Bai Xue, their president, having sustained such severe injuries, these high-ranking officials naturally made sure to visit, including Huang Sha, the vice-president, who also visited Bai Xue daily. And Bai Jiumeng, clearly, was one of Bai Xue’s confidantes.
Two days prior, when Yang Haoran came to the Medicine God Society, he hadn't seen Bai Jiumeng because she had just finished caring for Bai Xue and left. This time, Bai Jiumeng had not yet departed when Yang Haoran arrived, which was why they met.
"Lord Guardian, you're here."
As Bai Xue adjusted her sitting posture with Bai Jiumeng’s help, she smiled and spoke to Yang Haoran, though her smile lacked vigor.
"Heh heh, if your body isn't well, don't force yourself to sit up. Lying down is fine too."
Yang Haoran moved to the side of the bed and sat down, smiling faintly as he spoke. Bai Xue, in turn, gently shook her head and replied with a smile.
"Lying down isn't comfortable. I still prefer to sit."
In Bai Xue’s current weak state, Yang Haoran believed lying down would be more comfortable. Otherwise, Bai Xue would surely have had Bai Jiumeng help her up much earlier, rather than waiting for his arrival to do so.
Yang Haoran could somewhat guess Bai Xue’s thoughts, but he didn't point it out, merely nodding with a smile.
"Boss, President, please chat. I'll take my leave for now."
Bai Jiumeng spoke, believing it best to excuse herself at this moment to avoid overhearing anything she shouldn't.
However, Yang Haoran shook his head.
"Heh heh, we're all family here, no need to excuse yourself. Besides, it's much more convenient having you here to look after Bai Xue."
Yang Haoran’s words caused a flicker of disappointment to pass through Bai Xue’s eyes. She had hoped to spend some time alone with him, but with Yang Haoran keeping Bai Jiumeng there, her wish was dashed.
Although the disappointment in Bai Xue’s eyes was fleeting, it was still noticed by both Yang Haoran and Bai Jiumeng.
Bai Jiumeng was aware of Bai Xue’s feelings for Yang Haoran. Upon noticing that fleeting disappointment in Bai Xue’s eyes, she immediately understood Bai Xue’s thoughts and decided to lend her a hand.
"Boss, you've misunderstood. My time for looking after the President today has already ended. Due to some important matters at the Flock of Demons Society that require my immediate attention, I must leave at once. I had just explained this to the President, but before I could depart, you arrived."
Bai Jiumeng wore a serious expression, as if truly urgent matters awaited her. Her words made it clear: whether Yang Haoran arrived or not, she had to attend to her own business.
Bai Xue, who had initially been somewhat disappointed, heard Bai Jiumeng’s words, and her disappointment instantly vanished, replaced by joy.
Seeing that Bai Jiumeng had stated her case so explicitly, Yang Haoran naturally wouldn't insist.
"Since there are important matters to attend to, then go quickly. You needn't worry about Bai Xue; Feng Xiao and Xiang Chuan will take good care of her."
Yang Haoran smiled faintly. Hearing this, Bai Jiumeng first bowed slightly to Yang Haoran and Bai Xue, then departed without hesitation, leaving only Yang Haoran and Bai Xue.
