Chapter 1359: Turned Away at the Door
Luo Yao did not linger long in Yang Haoran's Guardian District. After understanding Yang Haoran's intentions, he gave a few simple instructions and then departed Yang Haoran's Guardian District.
For he had to admit that Yang Haoran had a point. Just as Yang Haoran said, when it came to understanding Xu Meijing's personality, Yang Haoran certainly knew more than he, her direct superior. Therefore, he did not force Yang Haoran to immediately go and apologize to Xu Meijing to obtain her forgiveness, but rather allowed Yang Haoran to handle the matter himself as the situation demanded.
Luo Yao departed, and Yang Haoran likewise made no effort to detain him, just as he hadn't when Yun Yao left earlier. This was because only with Luo Yao gone could he proceed with the matters he needed to attend to according to his own plans.
As for where Luo Yao would go or what he would do after leaving the Guardian District, Yang Haoran neither knew nor dared to inquire. He only needed to focus on fulfilling his own immediate duties.
After leaving the main hall, Yang Haoran proceeded to the operational meeting room, where he convened a meeting with his trusted subordinates. The content of the meeting was predictably centered around the events that had transpired that day.
Concurrently, news of what had occurred at Yang Haoran's wedding to Xu Meijing spread with astonishing speed. As both were prominent figures within the Underworld Office, the incident caused a considerable stir internally, and its impact continued to grow as more and more people became aware.
Two days later, Yang Haoran journeyed to the Guardian District where Xu Meijing resided.
After two days spent adjusting his mindset, Yang Haoran, though not yet fully restored to his usual tranquil demeanor, had significantly improved. At the very least, his face was no longer stern; a faint smile had returned. However, those familiar with him knew that this subtle smile lacked some of its former natural ease, and its forced quality was, of course, due to him not having fully recovered his composure.
However, Yang Haoran himself wasn't confident whether this trip would achieve its objective. Based on his understanding of Xu Meijing, he felt the chances of his success were slim.
Even knowing the low probability of success, what needed to be done still had to be done. Going offered at least some hope; not going meant no hope whatsoever.
As for why he didn't wait a few more days before seeking out Xu Meijing, it was because he felt two days was about right – too early wouldn't be good, and too late wouldn't be good either.
Upon arriving at Xu Meijing's Guardian District, Yang Haoran was stopped at the entrance, unable to gain entry.
With Yang Haoran's strength, directly teleporting into Xu Meijing's Guardian District would have posed no difficulty for him. He had always done so in the past, and no one would have stopped him, as everyone was aware of the relationship between him and Xu Meijing.
This time, he did not resort to that, because he had come to apologize. As an apology was his purpose, he naturally had to demonstrate sincerity. Thus, not only did he refrain from directly manifesting inside the Guardian District, but he also came alone, without any attendants.
Nevertheless, he was stopped by the guards right at the main entrance of Xu Meijing's Guardian District.
Yang Haoran did not recognize this guard, but the guard certainly recognized him. Halting Yang Haoran, a Guardian, placed considerable psychological pressure on the guard. However, he was Xu Meijing's subordinate, not Yang Haoran's, and despite the immense pressure, he knew precisely how he ought to act.
"Divine Emissary Yang, I am truly sorry, but we've received explicit instructions from above that you are temporarily not permitted to enter our Guardian District," the guard said with an apologetic expression.
This guard was no greenhorn; he fully understood the implications of the situation. Therefore, even though he knew his Divine Emissary and Yang Haoran were currently at loggerheads, he dared not show Yang Haoran the slightest disrespect. Even his act of blocking Yang Haoran was accompanied by a deeply apologetic expression.
Yang Haoran halted, showing no intention of forcing his way into Xu Meijing's Guardian District. With a faint smile, he turned his gaze to the guard.
"Heh heh, could you help me send a message inside?"
Yang Haoran said with a faint smile. He understood the guard's predicament, so he had no intention of making things difficult for him, merely asking him to relay a message.
The guard's face immediately showed a look of distress upon hearing this. Yang Haoran noticed it and then spoke with a faint smile.
"Heh heh, it's alright. Just speak your mind directly. I won't blame you, and I certainly won't take my anger out on you. I promise."
With Yang Haoran's assurance, the guard finally seemed to muster the courage to speak, quickly saying:
"Divine Emissary Yang, I am truly sorry, but orders from above were absolute. If you arrived, there's no need for a message, nor is anyone permitted to relay one. We are simply to tell you to leave. And even if a message were sent, it would be useless. Our Divine Emissary said she will not see you."
The guard spoke cautiously, constantly observing Yang Haoran's facial expressions. If Yang Haoran's expression showed the slightest hint of displeasure, he would immediately stop speaking, lest he provoke Yang Haoran, for at that point, only he would suffer the consequences.
Even after he finished speaking, Yang Haoran's expression remained utterly unchanged. Unable to discern Yang Haoran's current mood from his face, the guard felt extremely uneasy.
After these words fell, the guard ceased speaking. He had said all he needed to say; now, he simply had to observe Yang Haoran's reaction. He watched Yang Haoran warily, bracing himself as he continued to block his path.
"Heh heh, there's no need for you to be nervous. I won't make things difficult for you. Relax," Yang Haoran said, noticing the guard's apprehension.
Despite his words, the guard's apprehension did not lessen. Yang Haoran saw this, and without speaking further, he retrieved a Communication Talisman. He whispered a few words to it before activating the talisman.
This Communication Talisman was sent by Yang Haoran to Xu Meijing, and it wasn't the first time he had sent her one since the incident. Even before coming to Xu Meijing's Guardian District, he had sent her Communication Talismans, but had received no reply.
The Communication Talisman he now activated, Yang Haoran surmised, would likely also vanish without a trace. Nevertheless, he harbored a sliver of hope and decided to try anyway.
The guard dared not urge Yang Haoran to leave quickly. Although there was an order to send Yang Haoran away if he arrived, and the order was indeed clear, how could he truly do that? Yang Haoran not forcing his way into the Guardian District was already a stroke of luck for him; as for telling Yang Haoran to leave, he wouldn't dare even with a hundred times more courage.
In the blink of an eye, half an hour passed. The activated Communication Talisman fell into the sea like a stone; Yang Haoran received no reply from Xu Meijing.
Seeing that Xu Meijing wasn't responding to his messages at all, Yang Haoran knew this approach was certainly futile. There was no need to keep trying, so he decided to switch to another method of contacting Xu Meijing.
After a brief moment of thought, Yang Haoran made up his mind, his gaze fixing on the tallest building in the Guardian District.
"Xiao Jing, I've come to apologize, and also to explain the misunderstanding. Can you see me?"
Yang Haoran spoke, his tone exceptionally sincere. Bolstered by his power, his voice instantly reverberated throughout the entire Guardian District. Everyone within the district could hear it clearly, some even looking around, searching for the source of the sound.
Perhaps because Yang Haoran's approach was deemed inappropriate, or perhaps because Xu Meijing simply did not wish to hear Yang Haoran's voice, this time, after Yang Haoran spoke, his message did not vanish without a trace like before. He quickly received a reply from Xu Meijing, though the response he received consisted of only a single word.
"Scram!"
