Chapter 1287: Cruel Methods
At the cave entrance, Ma Ling slumped weakly to the ground, gasping for breath. Before her lay a brutally dismembered corpse. From the ragged clothes the body wore, it was evident that this cruelly mutilated corpse was none other than Fu Yan, the man Ma Ling hated to her very core.
As for who dismembered Fu Yan’s corpse, it was, of course, Ma Ling, who sat slumped on the ground. Not only was she covered in blood, but she also held a bloody dagger in her hand. Furthermore, before Yang Haoran’s arrival, only Ma Ling and Fu Yan had been present. Who else could have done it?
Yang Haoran had seen too many brutally dismembered corpses. Especially since Zhong Siyu had joined him, he’d seen even more. Just like the bodies strewn everywhere that he had seen moments ago—with only a very few relatively intact—the rest were all savagely torn apart. Such a bloody and cruel scene hadn't caused the slightest change in his expression, yet the sight before him now made his expression shift.
The reason for Yang Haoran’s change in expression wasn't because Ma Ling had committed such a cruel act, but because the method of dismemberment Ma Ling employed was simply too cruel and too bloody!
Earlier, when Yang Haoran delivered Fu Yan intact to Ma Ling, he had already guessed that Fu Yan would surely die by Ma Ling’s hand, and die terribly. After all, Ma Ling hated Fu Yan to the bone; how could Fu Yan meet a good end once he fell into Ma Ling's hands?
However, Yang Haoran had never imagined that Fu Yan’s end would be so utterly gruesome. Ma Ling had not only dug out most of Fu Yan's flesh, piece by piece, arranging them neatly beside the corpse, but she had also extracted all of his internal organs, placing them separately from the chunks of flesh. It was as if a mechanic had disassembled machine parts, temporarily setting them aside for later use.
And Fu Yan’s entire skeleton, from his large skull to his tiny finger bones, every single one was shattered from severe impact. Some bones had even been forcibly extracted from the flesh, similarly laid out neatly beside the corpse. The scene could be described as utterly bloody, utterly cruel, and utterly perverse!
Such a bloody and cruel scene was something Yang Haoran had witnessed for the very first time in his life. He had never before seen anyone employ such cruel methods. Even with Zhong Siyu by his side, he had never seen her use such brutal means. That was why his expression had changed somewhat upon seeing the gory sight before him.
For a while, Yang Haoran had merely paid attention to Ma Ling’s situation through his senses, not directly looking at her, so he had only heard Fu Yan’s incessant screams and didn't know exactly what was happening. However, having now witnessed Fu Yan’s tragic end with his own eyes, he could roughly imagine the process of Fu Yan's torment in his mind.
. . . . Given Ma Ling's intense hatred for Fu Yan, she definitely wouldn't have killed Fu Yan first and then dug out his flesh piece by piece. These chunks of flesh must have been forcibly dug out by Ma Ling, one after another with her dagger, while Fu Yan was still alive.
Not just the dug-out flesh; Fu Yan’s shattered bones and extracted internal organs must also have been done while he was alive, as this was the only way to inflict more brutal and painful torment upon him. As for how far Fu Yan endured before his last breath, Yang Haoran had no way of guessing that from the scene before him.
However, the New Beginning Realm possesses countless strange pills and methods. If Ma Ling had means or pills to temporarily extend a target’s life and multiply their pain, then it’s possible Fu Yan endured until the very end. But such endurance, for Fu Yan, would undoubtedly be worse than death. Anyone else facing such a situation would surely prefer a quick death over enduring such perverse torture!
Yang Haoran was merely surprised by the sheer brutality of Ma Ling’s methods; he had no intention of blaming her. He understood why Ma Ling had committed such a cruel act. While he couldn't exactly condone such actions, he certainly understood Ma Ling's motivations.
As for Fu Yan, who died after enduring such torment, Yang Haoran felt no sympathy whatsoever. On one hand, he was on Ma Ling's side. On the other hand, Fu Yan's tragic end was entirely self-inflicted. If he hadn't sown the seeds of evil back then, he wouldn't have reaped today's bitter fruit. So, in Yang Haoran's view, there was no reason to pity Fu Yan, nor was he the kind of person whose sympathy easily overflowed.
As for why Zhong Siyu, who arrived shortly after, showed an excited expression upon seeing this bloody and cruel scene, that was easy to understand. The bloodier, crueler, and more perverse the scene, the more she liked it. Seeing such a bloody and cruel sight now, why wouldn't she be happy? She originally had no feelings for Ma Ling, barely even tolerating her, but now she even looked at Ma Ling with appreciation. In her eyes, Ma Ling was a promising talent; if she were to take her place, she would certainly surpass her predecessor!
If Yang Haoran knew what Zhong Siyu was thinking at that moment, his expression would certainly change even more dramatically, and he would undoubtedly nip Zhong Siyu's idea in the bud without hesitation. This was because Yang Haoran didn't want Ma Ling to become as bloodthirsty and brutal as Zhong Siyu!
Yang Haoran’s expression changed for only a fleeting moment, but he quickly returned to normal, his characteristic faint smile reappearing on his face.
However, his calm smile only lasted for a short while on his face. When he noticed that Ma Ling's mental state was somewhat off, the calm smile that had just returned to his face quickly faded.
With her great vengeance exacted, from an outsider's perspective, Ma Ling should have been happy, but the reality was quite the opposite. At this moment, Ma Ling showed no trace of happiness on her face; instead, she sat slumped on the ground, dispirited. Though her face was covered in blood, a closer look would reveal that she was weeping, her emotions utterly despondent.
Yang Haoran merely pondered for a moment before understanding the reason.
“The Door Master of the Corpse-Controlling Gate has absconded, and most of its high and middle-ranking members died tonight. As for your Ma Family’s greatest enemy, Fu Yan, he was the most wretched death among all those from the Corpse-Controlling Gate. Now, it's no exaggeration to say that your Ma Family's revenge has been more than half exacted. ”
Yang Haoran looked at Ma Ling, who was slumped on the ground, dispirited. He hesitated slightly, then spoke, making his tone as gentle as possible to account for Ma Ling's emotional state.
Yang Haoran's voice snapped the dazed Ma Ling back to reality, and a flicker of life returned to her vacant eyes.
“Brother Yang, thank you. Now that my great vengeance has been exacted, there’s no point in me staying in Tong Continent. I am willing to return with you. ”
Ma Ling wiped her face. She was wiping the blood from her face, and also the tears, then forced a somewhat unnatural smile as she spoke to Yang Haoran.
Yang Haoran knew that the intense resentment in Ma Ling's heart had largely dissipated now that Fu Yan had been personally tormented to death by her. However, her emotions were still unstable, which was why the smile she forced onto her face looked so unnatural.
However, even though Ma Ling's smile was unnatural at that moment, her tone of voice no longer carried intense malice. From this, it could be confirmed that the resentment in her heart had indeed largely dispersed.
When Ma Ling had traveled thousands of miles to Tong Continent, it was solely to avenge her deceased family. Now that her family’s great vengeance had been exacted, she indeed had no reason to stay here. Moreover, she truly didn't wish to remain, as Tong Continent was merely a place of sorrowful revenge for her, not somewhere she liked.
“No, your Ma Family’s vengeance isn’t completely finished yet. I promised you I would annihilate the entire Corpse-Controlling Gate, and I won’t break my word. ”
