Chapter 1209: There Is Only One Purpose

In less time than it takes to smoke a cigarette, the second light barrier shrouding the Death God Temple shattered explosively under everyone's fierce assault.

Although this light barrier was released by a defensive formation, this formation's defensive power did, after all, have its limits. Once it exceeded its breaking point, it was bound to shatter.

Compared to the previous light barrier, this one lasted considerably longer, yet it inflicted no casualties on the invading enemies. While the first barrier had killed some people, it had lasted less than half the time of the second. One could say each had its merits.

As the second light barrier shattered, the largest Death God Temple in Ancheng was revealed to everyone's sight. However, before anyone could clearly ascertain the situation inside the Death God Temple, a deluge of black chains, accompanied by a clanking and rattling sound, like countless black venomous snakes as thick as arms, fiercely assailed the crowd.

Some individuals, naturally careless or lacking combat experience, after breaking through the second light barrier, were filled with nothing but joy, believing everything was over. They hadn't even considered whether the Underworld Office agents hidden within the barrier might be poised to deliver a fatal blow. Thus, when faced with the overwhelming assault of chains, these individuals became the first victims.

However, such individuals were few. Among these few, only a tiny minority lost their lives; the rest merely suffered severe injuries.

The vast majority of others, when confronted by the incoming chains, immediately reacted effectively, each employing various methods to defend or counter-attack.

Though the chains were numerous, there were even more people besieging the Ancheng Underworld Office. In just a short while, all the chains were shattered and dispersed. All the surviving members of the Ancheng Underworld Office were completely surrounded, hemmed in so tightly that not even a bird could escape.

Now, not many from the Ancheng Underworld Office remained alive. Even before activating the two grand formations, they had already lost half their numbers while facing the Spirit Masters and the Talisman Order's assault. The Ancheng Funeral Director knew this couldn't continue. If he didn't find a way to change things, their side of the Underworld Office would soon be completely annihilated by the enemy. Therefore, the Ancheng Funeral Director activated the two grand formations.

Immediately after the two grand formations were broken, the two sides immediately resumed their fierce battle. Due to the immense disparity in strength, the Ancheng Underworld Office was once again defeated in a short span of time. They had lost half their people before activating the formations, and this latest battle had claimed another half. Consequently, there were not many left alive now, and every one of them was injured, some severely so, having completely lost the ability to fight.

"Hahahaha, do you all see? " a Spirit Master exclaimed, his face alight with excitement, "The fate of the Ancheng Underworld Office right now is the future fate of the entire Underworld Office! It won't be long before we completely conquer the entire Underworld Office, just like now, surrounding them so tightly that they die one by one in terror!"

Watching the Ancheng Underworld Office's current predicament, a Spirit Master laughed heartily, his face full of excitement, and declared loudly. His words were not for the surrounded members of the Ancheng Underworld Office, but rather for everyone on the Spirit Master's side.

The reason he hadn't immediately ordered the annihilation of the remaining Ancheng Underworld Office members, but instead surrounded them, was to use this method to boost the morale of their own faction, and at the same time, to show the non-Spirit Master forces on their side that choosing to align with the Spirit Masters was the correct decision.

Sure enough, after the Spirit Master's words fell, most of the people on the Spirit Master's side present broke into smiles. Some even showed signs of excitement, with not a single face betraying fear.

Conversely, among those who survived from the Ancheng Underworld Office, while most were filled with wrath and hateful gazes, there were still some who showed signs of fear due to their desperate predicament.

Not everyone is unafraid of death. It was natural for fear to surface instinctively when facing a desperate situation with no hope of survival. Therefore, the Ancheng Funeral Director did not blame these individuals, for he understood.

However, he had no intention of letting them continue to wallow in fear. If they continued to be afraid, they would certainly do something even more disgraceful, and this was precisely what the Spirit Masters wished to see. If this scene were recorded by the Spirit Masters and then deliberately publicized, it would cause immense damage to the reputation of their Underworld Office.

"All Night Watchers, heed my command! Today, we would rather die fighting than bring shame upon our Underworld Office! Retreat is not an option! Attack!"

To prevent his Night Watchers from disgracing themselves, the Ancheng Funeral Director decisively issued the order to continue the fight. Although he knew that given their current strength, it was utterly impossible to defeat the Spirit Masters' side, he would rather die fighting alongside his survivors than suffer humiliation at the hands of the Spirit Masters.

As the Ancheng Funeral Director gave the order, the vast majority of Night Watchers immediately unleashed their Spirit Power and launched an assault on the enemies surrounding them. The few Night Watchers who had felt fear in their hearts initially hesitated in this situation, but influenced by the fearless, death-defying aura of their comrades, they then let out a desperate roar, tears in their eyes, and likewise charged at the surrounding enemies.

Although all the members of the Ancheng Underworld Office fought with desperate resolve, the effect was far from ideal. All of this was due to the immense disparity in strength and numbers between the two sides. Thus, even their most desperate fighting was merely like a praying mantis trying to stop a chariot.

"Since they're so eager to die, then let's grant them their wish."

This Spirit Master did not make a move, instead hovering high in the air, calmly observing everything unfolding below.

The Spirit Master who had spoken earlier, upon hearing this, immediately bowed respectfully to him and quickly responded.

"Yes, Divine Envoy!"

After these words, this individual prepared to issue the order to annihilate all the remaining members of the Ancheng Underworld Office. Although he still wished to torment these Ancheng Underworld Office members further, making them experience more fear, the command had already come from above, and he dared not disobey.

However, just as this Spirit Master was about to give the order, above the heads of the Ancheng Underworld Office members, space suddenly rippled violently, and then a spatial rift appeared.

The appearance of this spatial rift immediately drew everyone's gaze, including the surviving members of the Ancheng Underworld Office and those besieging them, without exception.

Of course, everyone present wasn't just drawn by the spatial rift with their eyes; they also covertly became vigilant, unsure if the newcomers were friends or foes. Furthermore, individuals capable of tearing space apart were, to the vast majority of those present, formidable experts. Thus, caution was essential when the identity of the arrivals remained unclear.

Under everyone's watchful gaze, two blood-red figures emerged from the spatial rift. Seeing that the power fluctuations emanating from the newcomers were not Spirit Power, many on the Spirit Master's side breathed a sigh of relief. Conversely, a hint of disappointment arose in the hearts of the Ancheng Underworld Office members.

The Spirit Master's side wanted to see allies arrive, not Underworld Officials. Therefore, when they discovered that the power released by the boy and girl who emerged from the spatial rift was not Spirit Power, indicating that the newcomers were not Underworld Officials, though it wasn't the scene they most wished for, it was certainly better than Underworld Officials arriving, so many of them breathed a sigh of relief.

Conversely, the surviving members of the Ancheng Underworld Office did not want to see people from the Spirit Master's side arrive; they wanted to see Underworld Officials, because the arrival of Underworld Officials would signify the arrival of reinforcements. However, the newcomers were not from their Underworld Office, so disappointment naturally settled in their hearts.

"Friends from the Demon Cult, may I ask why you have come here at this time?"

The Spirit Master, referred to as the Divine Envoy, asked with a faint smile, looking at the newcomers.

This individual was quite discerning. Based on the power fluctuations emanating from the two, he immediately determined that they were members of the Demon Cult. His tone towards them was very courteous; he showed no sign of looking down on them just because they appeared young.

Although the two appeared young, for people like them, who were not ordinary mortals, appearance did not equate to true age. Moreover, in this Spirit Master's eyes, anyone capable of tearing space apart was no minor figure. He naturally wouldn't underestimate them simply because they looked young.

The reason this person was so courteous to the two was partly due to their strength, and partly because they were not from the Underworld Office. Thus, he secretly harbored thoughts of recruiting them.

"Heh heh, my sister and I have come here now for only one purpose," the boy said with a chuckle, "and that is. . . to kill."

As his words fell, a heavy sword, more than a man's height, materialized out of thin air before him. Beside him, a miniature, delicate sword box appeared before the girl.

These blood-robed boy and girl were none other than Jing Qi and Jing Miao, the siblings who had rushed from the Guardian District at their fastest possible speed.

The leading Spirit Master was momentarily stunned upon hearing Jing Qi's words, but then, seeing both siblings retrieve their weapons and treasures, a bad premonition couldn't help but arise in his heart.

Nevertheless, the leading Spirit Master remained composed, not allowing the reaction of Jing Qi and Jing Miao to throw him into disarray. A faint smile still lingered on his face.

"Heh heh, what a coincidence. We've also come here to kill today," the leading Spirit Master said, "However, the battle here is already concluding, with not many 'Yin dogs' left to kill. If my two friends wish to satisfy your craving for battle, I can let you handle the remaining 'Yin dogs' as a gesture of friendship. What do you say?"

The leading Spirit Master seemed very polite, but in truth, his move carried deep meaning. If Jing Qi and Jing Miao truly made a move and killed the remaining members of the Ancheng Underworld Office, they would become friends, not enemies, with the Spirit Masters. Even if they hadn't been enemies of the Underworld Office before, they would certainly become enemies now.

Conversely, if they didn't do so, it would mean the siblings were foes, not friends. He certainly didn't believe the two siblings would just appear here for no reason at this crucial moment!
