Chapter 1207: First Mission
After the Guardian District was established in Lecheng, even though the Ancheng Underworld Division was weak, it had never suffered a direct assault from other factions, nor had the Ancheng Emissary of Death ever sent Yang Haoran any distress calls.
Now, this precedent was broken, but Yang Haoran wasn't surprised in the least. After all, times had changed, the situation had undergone immense shifts, and it was hardly surprising that other forces dared to act against the Ancheng Underworld Division.
Of course, Yang Haoran wouldn't ignore this matter. He would find a way to resolve distress calls from other Underworld Divisions, and the Ancheng Underworld Division was naturally no exception.
Not only was the Ancheng Underworld Division close to Lecheng, making support convenient, but Ancheng was also a place where Xu Meijing had once resided. Both publicly and privately, Yang Haoran would not permit the Ancheng Underworld Division to fall, much less allow it to be directly expelled from Ancheng by other forces.
Once the Ancheng Underworld Division was truly kicked out by other forces, Lecheng and his Guardian District would be directly exposed to the enemy's gaze. This would make the situation in Lecheng and the Guardian District extremely perilous. Therefore, Ancheng could not be lost; it wasn't just Ancheng, but any city located near Lecheng could not be forfeited.
However, who to send to support the Ancheng Underworld Division was now an issue. Just as Yang Haoran was pondering this, his gaze suddenly landed on two individuals.
Both wore Blood-Clad attire. The boy appeared to be only fourteen or fifteen, and the girl seemed to be just twelve or thirteen. These two were none other than the siblings, Jing Qi and Jing Miao.
Because Xiang Chuan had, at the time, acquired the Dānyào formula for concocting face-rejuvenating pills from Feng Xiao, he had eagerly refined a batch of them and even had Jing Qi and Jing Miao test the medicine. That's why the siblings' appearances hadn't changed, looking just as they did when they first started following Yang Haoran.
At this moment, Yang Haoran's other confidants were discussing their next moves, occasionally pointing at the map on the screen, appearing extremely busy.
In contrast, the siblings Jing Qi and Jing Miao sat in an inconspicuous corner, observing and listening to the situation intently. This was evident from the earnest expressions on their faces.
However, the siblings merely listened and watched, neither speaking nor carelessly offering opinions.
When Yang Haoran's gaze fell upon the siblings, they seemed to sense something, simultaneously turning their eyes towards Yang Haoran's position. Seeing that it was indeed Yang Haoran looking at them, the siblings didn't dare to remain seated and immediately stood up.
Although Jing Qi and Jing Miao didn't know why Yang Haoran's gaze had fallen upon them at this moment, out of an ingrained loyalty and reverence for their boss, Yang Haoran, the siblings reflexively straightened their backs, without the slightest hesitation.
Yang Haoran smiled faintly, yet he didn't speak to Jing Qi and Jing Miao directly. Instead, he swept his gaze across all his confidants present before speaking with a light smile.
"Everyone, a moment of pause."
As Yang Haoran spoke, the noisy war room immediately fell silent, all eyes converging on him. Everyone knew that Yang Haoran calling a halt at this moment surely meant he had something to announce, and it was highly unlikely to be good news, so no one ventured to inquire.
"Just now, I received a distress call from the Ancheng Underworld Division, so I'm preparing to send people to support them."
Yang Haoran wasted no precious time. The moment everyone quieted down, he immediately stated what was on his mind.
Upon hearing Yang Haoran's words, no one present showed surprise or bewilderment. After all, given the current situation, any Underworld Division could potentially suffer an enemy attack, and their own Lecheng was no exception.
With the Ancheng Underworld Division sending a distress call, and Yang Haoran, as the Guardian, preparing to send aid, this was entirely reasonable. Therefore, no one present found Yang Haoran's decision strange.
However, after hearing Yang Haoran's words, everyone else present turned their gaze towards the ramrod-straight siblings, Jing Qi and Jing Miao. They had all guessed something.
Not only had others present guessed something, but Jing Qi and Jing Miao had also guessed what was coming. Their initially calm expressions now shifted, subtly revealing a hint of excitement.
At this point, Yang Haoran's gaze once again settled upon the siblings. Seeing Yang Haoran look at them once more, the faint excitement on Jing Qi and Jing Miao's faces evidently intensified.
"Heh heh, I've decided to entrust this mission to the two of you. Do either of you have any objections?"
Yang Haoran asked with a smile. The siblings, hearing this, no longer hid their emotions, their faces openly beaming with joy.
"Your subordinates have no objections!"
The siblings responded in unison, bowing respectfully to Yang Haoran.
"Heh heh, good. Since neither of you has any objections, then set off immediately and rush to the Ancheng Underworld Division with all due haste."
After receiving their affirmative reply, Yang Haoran wasted no time or words, directly ordering the two to depart for the Ancheng Underworld Division at once.
"As you command!"
"Thank you, boss!"
The siblings responded respectfully. "As you command! " was spoken by Jing Qi, while "Thank you, boss! " came from Jing Miao.
The reason Jing Miao uttered those four words at that moment was that ever since they began following Yang Haoran, the siblings had devoted all their energy to cultivation. While their strength had continuously and rapidly ascended with the support of abundant resources, they had never once gone out to execute a mission.
Never having carried out a mission, yet enjoying a ceaseless stream of resources to enhance their power, naturally caused some dissatisfaction among others. Consequently, unpleasant rumors and gossip found their way to the siblings' ears. Some even claimed that because they were too young and cowardly, they dared not go out on missions.
Naturally, the siblings were furious about this, for they knew they were not cowards. The reason they hadn't gone out on missions wasn't that they refused to; it was simply because their boss, Yang Haoran, had never assigned them any truly meaningful tasks.
In order to prove their capabilities to everyone, demonstrate their worth, and also to share Yang Haoran's burdens, the siblings had approached him multiple times, requesting that he assign them missions.
Initially, Yang Haoran hadn't agreed to their requests. The reason was that, in Yang Haoran's eyes, the siblings' strength was still too weak. Yang Haoran valued them greatly and didn't want them to lose their lives, so he refused their pleas.
However, the siblings did not give up due to Yang Haoran's refusal. Whenever their strength saw a breakthrough, they would seek out Yang Haoran, requesting him to assign them missions.
Seeing that the siblings' strength had indeed improved to a very respectable level, Yang Haoran finally promised them that he would arrange missions for them to execute as soon as possible. Yet, another year passed, and the siblings' assignments still hadn't materialized.
Although the siblings had repeatedly requested Yang Haoran to assign them tasks during this period, Yang Haoran never refused. However, his words were always to tell them to wait a bit longer, and this waiting stretched until now.
Today, Yang Haoran finally assigned them a mission, and what's more, it was in such an important setting, in front of the Guardian District's assembled high-ranking officials. The siblings were naturally overjoyed, for they knew that the opportunity to prove their strength and worth had arrived.
It was just that the siblings expressed their inner joy in slightly different ways. Jing Qi merely showed his happiness on his face, while though Jing Miao's delight wasn't as intense as Jing Qi's, her direct verbal thanks clearly indicated that her heart's joy was no less than his.
After the siblings' words fell, they straightened up and turned to leave the war room. They, too, knew time was pressing and weren't prepared to waste even a second more here.
However, the siblings had only taken a few steps when Yang Haoran's faint chuckle drifted from behind them.
"Heh heh, wait a moment."
Hearing this, the siblings immediately halted, turned to look at Yang Haoran, and respectfully bowed to him once more.
"Does the Guardian have any other commands?"
Jing Qi asked, neither his expression nor his tone betraying any confusion; only genuine awe.
"This time, the reason I'm only sending the two of you is because I have great confidence in your abilities. However, this is your first mission out, so you must be careful in all things. It's best if the mission can be completed perfectly, but if it can't, don't fight to the death. As long as the green hills stand, there will be firewood. Do you understand what I mean?"
Yang Haoran asked with a faint smile. The siblings, hearing him, immediately gave a respectful and uniform reply.
"Understood!"
The siblings naturally understood Yang Haoran's meaning. His words were simply telling them that if they encountered an enemy expert on this mission, they should fight if they could win, and retreat if they couldn't, so as not to throw away their lives.
Although the siblings had answered readily, they didn't truly feel that way in their hearts. This mission was their first, an opportunity for them to prove themselves. Thus, they had secretly resolved in their minds that this mission could only succeed, not fail, and they absolutely would not retreat, even if it meant dying in battle!
Subsequently, the siblings left the war room under everyone's gaze. The instant they exited, the blood within their bodies immediately boiled, and a visibly thick sanguine aura rose from them. As this dense aura dispersed, the siblings had vanished, leaving only a strong, lingering scent of blood in the air.
