Chapter 1215: Returning Laden with Gifts
In the time that followed, Yang Haoran chatted with Gu Yi and Ban Kui about various other matters, all naturally concerning the Jingran Pharmacy and the two of them.
Although it was a meeting, Yang Haoran did not put on any bossy airs in front of the two; his attitude remained genial throughout. This made their interactions with him not only free of discomfort or pressure but quite pleasant.
However, compared to Gu Yi, Ban Kui was a man of few words. He never initiated conversation, only responding when Yang Haoran posed a question.
Although Yang Haoran had been stopped at the entrance by Ban Kui in front of everyone earlier that day, Yang Haoran did not blame him for it; instead, he affirmed his diligent work.
Of course, in the end, Yang Haoran still offered Ban Kui a small piece of advice: he hoped that in his future work, he could be just a little bit more tactful.
When running a business, it is naturally best to avoid offending people if possible. Even if it becomes unavoidable, one should still try not to offend influential figures, lest they bring utter ruin upon their shop. The reason Yang Haoran hoped Ban Kui would be a bit more tactful in his future work was his concern that Ban Kui's temperament might offend some important individual. If such a thing truly happened, dealing with it would become quite troublesome, possibly even leading to an unmanageable outcome.
Therefore, such troubles are naturally best avoided if they can be, as inviting them offers no benefit.
After concluding the meeting with the two, Yang Haoran took out all the various medicines he had brought back from the mortal realm. Seeing such a large quantity and variety of drugs, both Gu Yi and Ban Kui revealed expressions of astonishment.
When Gu Yi learned that Yang Haoran had returned this time to restock, she had already guessed in her heart how many medicines he had brought. Although Yang Haoran himself had stated that the restocking included a wide variety and ample quantity of medicines, she did not know the exact extent.
It was only after Yang Haoran had taken out all the medicines he brought that she realized the quantity and variety far exceeded her expectations!
Once the medicines were out, Yang Haoran had intended to help organize them—deciding which to display and which to temporarily store, tasks he felt he could handle. However, Gu Yi refused him. As she put it, such trivial matters didn't require him, the boss, to personally attend to them.
Gu Yi spoke this way partly out of respect for Yang Haoran as her boss, and partly because she was already adept at handling such tasks.
Indeed, Gu Yi only took a short while to properly sort all the medicines, putting those meant for display on the shelves and storing the rest away.
The empty shelves were once again lined with various medicines. Although the entire first floor's shelves were not yet fully stocked, the appearance was much fuller, significantly better than before.
With the restocking complete, Yang Haoran's primary mission at the Jingran Pharmacy was effectively over. As he still needed to proceed to the designated Underworld window to submit spirits and was eager to return to Gu Mo City, he decided not to linger at the Jingran Pharmacy.
Before leaving the Jingran Pharmacy, Yang Haoran once again handed a Death God Pendant to both Gu Yi and Ban Kui. He earnestly instructed them that should they encounter any trouble they couldn't handle, they must remember to crush the Death God Pendant. He would sense it no matter where he was. They should not hesitate to use it, nor should they worry about causing him inconvenience; he would arrive at the first possible moment.
Besides this, Yang Haoran did two more things before departing from Jingran Pharmacy.
The first matter was taking all the spiritual medicinal ingredients from the second floor.
Jingran Pharmacy had no Pharmacist, so the only purpose these spiritual medicinal ingredients served by remaining here was to be sold to others. Rather than selling them, it was better to have his own people refine them into Dānyào. Thus, he took all these spiritual medicinal ingredients and informed Gu Yi that, from now on, Jingran Pharmacy would only acquire spiritual medicinal ingredients, not sell them.
The second matter was Yang Haoran taking away a portion of Jingran Pharmacy's revenue. Although it was only a small portion of the total revenue, it already amounted to more than a decade's worth of his salary as an Undertaker.
The reason Jingran Pharmacy's revenue could reach such a level was not only due to the sale of various medicines but also partly from the fees Gu Yi received for appraising various items for customers.
The reason he took away only a small portion of the revenue, rather than a large one, was that he wanted to leave Gu Yi with ample funds.
This sum of money was so substantial that it far exceeded the discretionary funds he had allocated to Gu Yi.
He did this primarily as a precaution. If he only left Gu Yi with her discretionary funds, it would, on one hand, make him, Yang Haoran, appear too stingy as a boss. On the other hand, if a major issue arose that needed handling, and Gu Yi's discretionary funds were insufficient, what then?
Therefore, to be safe, he felt it was more reliable to leave a larger sum of money; in the event of an unforeseen situation, Gu Yi could also use these funds to address the problem.
Gu Yi and Ban Kui felt a mix of confusion and reluctance upon seeing Yang Haoran depart so quickly, as he had only returned for a very short time.
However, both could more or less guess that Yang Haoran was certainly rushing to leave because he had other important matters to attend to, and thus neither of them pressed him to stay longer.
After leaving Jingran Pharmacy, Yang Haoran immediately rushed to the Underworld's designated window for submitting souls.
Here, he wasted even less time; in fact, one could say he barely wasted any at all. Since he encountered no issues or acquaintances, and nothing unexpected arose, he naturally wasn't delayed.
This time, the number of souls he submitted was considerable. Even though these souls were only a fraction of all the souls in his possession, their quantity was still astonishing, and among them were many formidable ghostly entities. Even the Ghost Official responsible for receiving him was startled by the souls he presented.
However, this Ghost Official was not shocked by the sheer volume of souls Yang Haoran produced. After all, the world was in chaos, and countless people died tragically every day in this tumultuous era. Furthermore, Underworld Officials from the mortal realm came to him daily to submit souls; while not everyone submitted as many souls at once as Yang Haoran, such Underworld Officials were not unheard of, and some even submitted more souls than Yang Haoran in a single go.
Thus, his shock wasn't due to the sheer number of souls Yang Haoran submitted at once, but rather to the astonishing fact that among these souls were a large number of Spirit Mediums.
While it wasn't absolutely impossible for someone to submit so many Spirit Medium souls at once, as Yang Haoran did, this Ghost Official had never witnessed it during his time in this position, which was why he was so shocked.
The shock in his heart caused this Ghost Official's impression of Yang Haoran to deepen considerably. In his view, Yang Haoran was no ordinary Underworld Official; otherwise, he wouldn't possess such capabilities. Thus, during this time, he couldn't resist striking up a brief conversation with Yang Haoran.
The Ghost Official was quite efficient. After Yang Haoran submitted the souls, he quickly calculated the number of Soul Pills Yang Haoran was due and handed them over.
Because of the large number of souls, and especially the significant number of Spirit Mediums—among whom many were Spirit Masters—Yang Haoran acquired a vast quantity of Soul Pills this time. The amount was so immense that it even far exceeded the small portion of revenue he had taken from Jingran Pharmacy.
Yang Haoran perceived that the Ghost Official attending him intended to converse further, but with Gu Mo City weighing heavily on his mind, he had no inclination to humor this Underworld Official. After exchanging a few polite pleasantries, he bade the man farewell.
Given Yang Haoran's character, had he not been preoccupied with urgent matters, he would certainly have engaged in a good chat with this person, first getting to know him, and then fostering a friendship, as such a connection would only benefit him.
But as circumstances didn't allow, he could only choose to withdraw for now, since, in his view, the matters in Gu Mo City were far more important.
If he were to come to the Underworld next time to submit souls and this person was still in the same position, then he wouldn't mind engaging in more conversation with him.
Yang Haoran had originally intended to visit Jiang Dashi, as it had been quite some time since he last saw him. However, again, due to time constraints, he had to give up on the idea, resolving to visit Jiang Dashi on his next trip to the Underworld.
With both important matters handled, Yang Haoran did not linger in the Underworld. Carrying a large quantity of spiritual medicinal ingredients and a vast amount of Soul Pills, he immediately rushed back to Gu Mo City!
