Chapter 1207: Stopped by His Own Employee

Yang Haoran's words brought an amused expression to Yun Yao's face.

"Hehe, I see you're not only kind, but also honest to a fault. If there were no appraiser here, who would all these people come to for appraisal? Oh. . . wait, I shouldn't say you're honest; I should say you're foolish instead."

As soon as she finished speaking, without waiting for Yang Haoran to respond, Yun Yao smiled and asked him,

"Tell me, honest man, do I look like a fool to you?"

Yang Haoran didn't speak, simply smiled faintly and shook his head.

"Heh heh, I don't think I'm a fool either. Since we both agree on this point, I certainly wouldn't do something only a fool would. If there were no appraiser here, what would I be doing? Just gawking? And why are they all queuing here? Are they also just gawking?"

Yun Yao's retort struck Yang Haoran directly. After hearing Yun Yao, Yang Haoran realized that the question he had just asked was indeed a bit idiotic.

"Miss, you're right. I did ask a brainless question. It's all because I'm too honest; sometimes my mind doesn't turn corners quickly. But please, stop praising me for now. Could you tell me more about this appraiser in the apothecary?"

Yang Haoran smiled faintly. Although he admitted asking a brainless question, his mood wasn't affected, and his expression remained unchanged, showing no embarrassment at all.

"I wasn't praising you. I can't believe you couldn't tell; you truly are honest to a fault. Alright, since you asked, I'll tell you. I don't know who the owner of this apothecary is, but I do know two of its clerks. One is a thirty-year-old man, tall and burly, like a solid wall of iron. From his fierce and imposing appearance, he must be a ruthless individual."

To help Yang Haoran better understand how tall and imposing the man she spoke of was, Yun Yao decided to describe him.

Due to her petite stature, directly comparing him to her own height wouldn't adequately describe the man she was talking about, so she could only gesture with her hands.

She first stretched her arms out straight to her sides, then told Yang Haoran,

"See? This isn't his height; this is his waist! His waist is that thick!"

Immediately after, Yun Yao raised one arm, holding it straight up, and even jumped a few times!

"See? This is his height! My arm raised up, plus those few jumps I made, all added together, that's his height!"

Watching Yun Yao's serious description, Yang Haoran couldn't help but feel caught between laughter and exasperation. Although the expression on his face didn't completely stiffen, it did become a little unnatural.

After a slight pause, Yun Yao continued.

"Besides this man, who resembles a human tank, there's also a woman in this Stillness Apothecary. In terms of looks, she's just a tiny bit older than me, around nineteen or twenty. Not only does she look a bit older than me, but her looks are also just a tiny bit inferior to mine. However, this woman knows a lot. All sorts of strange and bizarre things and matters, she seems to know them all, seems to recognize them all. In that regard, I'm not as good as her; I have to admit that."

Yang Haoran didn't take Yun Yao's self-praise to heart, nor did he care in the slightest. However, he was quite interested in the woman Yun Yao spoke of.

"A woman. . . The woman Yun Yao spoke of, could it be Gu Yi?"

Yang Haoran thought to himself. There were only two people in the apothecary, and from Yun Yao's description, the man Yun Yao spoke of was definitely Ban Kui.

As for the woman, Gu Yi's age was indeed similar to what Yun Yao described, and her appearance seemed to be around nineteen or twenty. But to say that Gu Yi knew all sorts of strange and bizarre things and recognized all sorts of strange and bizarre objects, that differed significantly from what he knew about Gu Yi. It was precisely because of this that he didn't dare to confirm whether the woman Yun Yao spoke of was Gu Yi.

Just as doubt arose in his mind, Yang Haoran suddenly realized something, and he was instantly enlightened, his doubts completely vanishing.

"The appraiser you're talking about, it should be this woman, right?"

Yang Haoran smiled faintly at Yun Yao. Not only did he not receive praise from Yun Yao, but he was mocked by her instead.

"You're truly clever, you guessed it! I made it so obvious, even a fool would know who the appraiser is. Besides this woman, would it be that fierce-looking human tank?"

Yun Yao gave an affirmative answer, and also ribbed Yang Haoran a few times. However, Yang Haoran didn't care; it was Yun Yao's answer that made him even more certain of the guess in his heart.

"Let me tell you, this female clerk is genuinely amazing. I, Yun Yao, am someone who calls a spade a spade, and there aren't many people who receive such praise from me. This isn't my first time coming to this shop to appraise things, so I know this female clerk's abilities."

At this point, Yun Yao leaned closer to Yang Haoran, then lowered her voice slightly, and continued,

"It's said that many shops in the Underworld have tried to poach this woman, offering exorbitant prices, but she's refused them all. I don't know what sort of bewitching potion her boss has given her to make such a talented individual so loyally remain in this obscure apothecary."

As these words left her mouth, Yun Yao felt her statement wasn't quite right, so she added another sentence.

"Of course, 'obscure' only refers to before. After this female clerk became famous for appraising all sorts of strange and bizarre items, the reputation of this Stillness Apothecary vastly improved. And it's precisely because of this that you now see so many people queuing here, all behaving themselves properly and respectfully, after all, they are seeking help from someone."

During their conversation, the line had been moving forward. As Yun Yao finished speaking, only a few people remained in front of them, while quite a few more people had joined the back of the line.

Yun Yao had been chatting enthusiastically with Yang Haoran earlier, and thus hadn't noticed this. Now realizing that only a few people were left in front and it would soon be her turn, the smile on her face deepened slightly.

"Haha, time really flies when you're chatting with someone! Before I knew it, it's almost my turn, which is quite exciting, actually. Last time, when I had nothing to do, I brought a bead that I truly couldn't figure out for appraisal. I never expected it to be a real treasure! I was overjoyed; I almost threw that bead away as trash!"

Yang Haoran followed Yun Yao's steps forward, approaching the apothecary's entrance a little further. Hearing Yun Yao's words, he asked with a faint smile,

"Heh heh, last time you brought a bead; what have you brought today?"

Yun Yao shook her head, then smiled and said,

"I told you men are always in a hurry, and you still didn't believe me! Isn't it almost my turn now? You'll see if you just open your eyes and look. Why the rush to know the result now?"

Yang Haoran was ribbed by Yun Yao again. This time, he learned his lesson, just smiled faintly, and didn't speak again.

He had learned everything he needed to know and now understood what was going on. His objective had been achieved, so he didn't need to ask Yun Yao anything further.

Of course, even without further questions, chatting was still possible; it could strengthen their bond. After all, they were both Emissaries of Death, and even if they weren't from the same continent, they might still meet again in the future. There was no harm in having another friend.

However, Yang Haoran was worried that if he spoke, Yun Yao would just leave him dumbfounded again, so he simply kept his mouth shut.

He kept his mouth shut, but Yun Yao had no intention of doing the same. She chattered away about this and that, clinging to him. He had achieved his goal and originally wanted to find an excuse to leave and directly enter the shop to attend to the matters he needed to deal with. But Yun Yao clung to him so persistently that before he even had time to make an excuse to leave, the line had already reached Yun Yao's spot.

Because Yang Haoran and Yun Yao stood very close to each other, when Yun Yao entered the shop, Yang Haoran also prepared to enter. However, just as he was about to step inside, he was stopped by an outstretched arm.

"If you are entering to purchase medicine or trade spiritual herbs, you may enter from this side; there's no need to queue. If you are here for item appraisal, please wait a moment longer. Only one person may enter at a time."

The one who suddenly spoke and stopped Yang Haoran was none other than Ban Kui, whom he had personally recruited and who now worked at the Stillness Apothecary!

Being stopped by his own employee, Yang Haoran was momentarily stunned. His faint smile froze on his face once again. This was the third time it had happened today.

He first touched his face; he wasn't wearing a mask. Next, he looked at his attire; it was just like always—suit, leather shoes, white shirt—nothing had changed.

But how could Ban Kui not recognize him?

With a look of surprise and confusion, Yang Haoran turned his head to look at Ban Kui, at this burly man who was half a head taller than him and whose body was twice his width.

However, when he turned his head, all he could see was Ban Kui's muscular torso. To see Ban Kui's face, he would have to look up.

Upon this realization, he finally understood what was going on.
