Chapter 1205: A Direct Woman
Yang Haoran came to the very end of the line. Judging by the slender and petite figure, delicate waist, and flowing long hair of the person queuing in front of him, this individual was likely a woman. Moreover, her body radiated life fluctuations, indicating that she, like him, was an Underworld Official from the mortal realm.
"Since we're both Underworld Officials from the mortal realm, it shouldn't be too difficult to get some information from her."
Yang Haoran thought to himself, then softly spoke to the woman's back.
"Hello, may I trouble you for a moment?"
The woman didn't react at all, as if she hadn't heard Yang Haoran's voice. This made Yang Haoran feel a bit awkward for a moment; after all, he'd never done anything like this before, and for some inexplicable reason, he felt a twinge of a guilty conscience.
However, he didn't give up. He extended a finger and lightly tapped the woman's back, speaking again.
"Hello, excuse me, may I trouble you for a moment?"
To avoid any misunderstanding, Yang Haoran's movements were very gentle and his voice low. But the woman proved quite sensitive; his finger had only lightly touched her back when her body involuntarily shivered slightly. Such a strong reaction genuinely startled Yang Haoran.
From her appearance, the woman wasn't old; to be precise, she was quite young, looking no older than seventeen or eighteen. However, her true age couldn't be determined by her looks, as Underworld Officials don't die naturally, nor do their physical bodies age naturally, making it impossible to judge one's true age by their face.
Yet, one thing was almost certain: this woman was just as young when she became an Underworld Official. To achieve this at such an age, she either had powerful connections or exceptional ability; otherwise, it would be impossible. Whether it was the former or the latter, it indicated that this woman was far from simple.
With just a single glance, Yang Haoran deduced from her appearance that the woman was no simple character. He felt a slight surprise inwardly, but he didn't let it show on his face.
"I say, what's wrong with you? Don't you have any manners?"
Yang Haoran knew his actions had indeed been impolite, so he naturally wouldn't argue with the woman. Facing her displeasure, he quickly apologized again and offered an explanation.
"I'm sorry, I just wanted to get some information from you, young lady. If I've offended you, I hope you can understand."
Yang Haoran's apologetic attitude was good, and the smile on his face made him seem harmless and unthreatening, so the woman didn't hold it against him.
"Your words are quite sweet, but your looks are too ordinary. What a pity."
The woman said, her face devoid of disdain, her tone free of sarcasm, as she looked at Yang Haoran with a completely serious expression.
It was precisely this earnestness that made her words even more cutting.
Thankfully, Yang Haoran already had extensive experience with such remarks, so his heart didn't ripple in the slightest, and the benevolent smile on his face didn't diminish by half a bit.
Yang Haoran's reaction somewhat surprised the woman. She had expected that after her words, Yang Haoran would surely get angry—if not immediately explode, then at least not give her a pleasant look.
But Yang Haoran's reaction was precisely the opposite of what she'd imagined. Not only did he not get angry or go berserk, but his expression didn't change in the slightest; that benevolent smile remained firmly on his face.
"You're not angry?"
The woman suddenly asked Yang Haoran this question.
"The young lady is speaking the truth, so why should I be angry? Besides, I'm just ordinary-looking; at least I'm not ugly, nor am I terrifying. Don't you agree?"
The corners of the woman's mouth twitched slightly; she clearly hadn't expected Yang Haoran to respond in such a way.
"Heh. . . hehe, you're quite open-minded. Right, what did you need me for?"
"I wanted to ask, are you queuing here to buy medicinal pills? Are their pills really that popular?"
Yang Haoran didn't beat around the bush or try to flirt; he got straight to the point.
As for why he asked this, it was naturally because it was the normal thing to ask. After all, this was a pharmacy, not a restaurant. If he didn't ask if they were queuing to buy medicine, was he supposed to ask if they were queuing to eat?
Hearing this, the woman looked at Yang Haoran with some surprise.
"You came here to queue without knowing anything?"
Questioned by the woman in such a way, Yang Haoran showed no embarrassment at all, replying with a faint smile.
"I was originally wandering nearby when I saw this pharmacy with such a long queue. I figured this pharmacy's medicines must be quite outstanding, which is why there was such a long line outside. As it happened, I also needed some medicinal pills to keep on me, so I joined the queue. However, this is just my personal guess, and I couldn't be sure if it was true, so I took the liberty of bothering you, young lady, to get some information."
Hearing this, the woman's face showed an "oh, so that's how it is" expression.
"Oh, so that's what happened."
As the woman's words fell, a smile appeared on her face.
"Alright, since you don't know, I'll tell you. I'm queuing here anyway, and I'm idle. The main thing is, I see you're an Underworld Official from the mortal realm, just like me. If you stand here looking foolish without knowing anything, you'd be disgracing all of us Underworld Officials from the mortal realm."
The woman's speech was just as blunt as when she'd commented on Yang Haoran's looks earlier; it seemed she hadn't considered whether Yang Haoran would get angry because of her words. And Yang Haoran remained as composed as before, his expression not changing in the slightest due to her directness.
"Heh heh, then I'll trouble you, young lady," Yang Haoran said with a faint smile, his attitude extremely polite.
"Hehe, although your looks aren't anything special, your temper is quite good. And that's how it should be; if you don't have an advantage in looks and your temper is utterly terrible, no girl would ever like you."
Yang Haoran had expected the woman to immediately tell him about the Jingran Pharmacy's situation, but to his surprise, she had instead launched into another speech, latched onto his ordinary looks and refused to let go.
However, Yang Haoran was someone who had seen a lot of the world. He could sense that the woman wasn't deliberately mocking him, but merely speaking her honest thoughts, so he had no intention of arguing with her in the slightest.
Although Yang Haoran had no intention of arguing with the woman, this time he didn't chime in, for fear that if he did, she might not say what she should, and instead say a whole lot of what she shouldn't.
Seeing Yang Haoran smile without speaking, the woman didn't continue making an issue of his looks; instead, she began to relay the information Yang Haoran desired.
"This Jingran Pharmacy is indeed a place that sells medicine. Not only are their medicines quite effective, but they're also very cheap. It's just that for some reason, their pharmacy doesn't have many types of medicine, and their stock is pitifully low. Many medicines sold out and haven't been restocked yet."
The woman's words carried unconcealed complaints. Yang Haoran didn't interject, but listened quietly. After a slight pause, the woman continued.
"If this pharmacy only sold medicine and dealt in various spiritual medicinal ingredients, I'm certain it wouldn't be able to stay open in the Underworld. Forget before the world descended into chaos; even now, there would only be one outcome: facing bankruptcy."
At this point, the woman paused slightly again, carefully observing Yang Haoran's expression, then continued.
"Let me tell you, don't disbelieve me. If you were a customer, and you deliberately ran all the way to such a remote street every time, wanting to buy some cheap medicine, but always came up empty-handed, would you still come back?"
Yang Haoran's expression had originally remained unchanged, showing not the slightest hint of disbelief. However, this Jingran Pharmacy was, after all, his own business; he was the owner, and the woman was a customer. Since she had spoken to this extent, he cooperatively shook his head.
"Heh heh, I definitely wouldn't come back."
Hearing this, the woman clapped her hands.
Clap!
"See? Isn't that right? If it were you, you wouldn't come back either. I told you, if this pharmacy only sold medicine, it would definitely close down, and I wasn't lying, was I?"
Yang Haoran nodded cooperatively again. To prevent the woman from letting the topic stray too far, he quickly took the initiative to ask.
"Since this pharmacy doesn't seem to have much medicine for sale, why is there still such a long queue here? Could it be. . . could it be that they're not here to buy medicine? Or to deal in spiritual medicinal ingredients?"
