Chapter 1172: First Collision
"Big Sister, are you alright!"
Seeing Big Sister cough up quite a bit of blood, Shang Yuanqi stopped his assault on the Corpse King and immediately rushed to support her, asking about her condition.
"Cough! Cough cough! You. . . are you spouting nonsense? Do I look alright to you?"
Big Sister first coughed out a few mouthfuls of fresh blood, then glared at Shang Yuanqi before speaking, clearly displeased.
Shang Yuanqi felt a bit awkward. His words were purely out of concern; he wasn't blind, how could he not know Big Sister was badly injured? But being retorted by Big Sister like that, he didn't know how to respond.
Big Sister ignored Shang Yuanqi. She watched the heavily panting Corpse King with vigilance, then retrieved a Dānyào from her independent space and swallowed it.
The Corpse King's gaze was already on Big Sister. Now, as Big Sister looked at the Corpse King, their eyes met directly.
Neither of them made a move. Big Sister knew why the Corpse King hadn't attacked her immediately – the Corpse King had expended too much energy and needed a moment to catch its breath.
For the Corpse King, Big Sister not attacking it immediately was also a good thing, as it was currently exhausted and needed rest and recovery.
Big Sister glanced at the Corpse King, then shifted her gaze to Yang Haoran, who was shrouded in dense Yin Qi in the distance.
Seeing that Yang Haoran's surroundings were empty, yet the ground below was littered with corpses and ran with rivers of blood, her expression instantly turned extremely grim.
During her intense battle with the Corpse King, she had no energy to manage other matters, nor dared she be distracted. Thus, she wasn't sure how many of her Spirit Mediums had managed to escape.
However, she was well aware of the individual temperaments of her Spirit Masters. Based on her understanding of them, two sly ones had probably already found a way to flee, but it was unlikely that the others would have escaped.
As for the ordinary Spirit Mediums who hadn't yet reached the Spirit Master realm, their numbers were vast, and she naturally didn't understand their individual personalities, nor did she have the leisure to concern herself with such matters. Therefore, she couldn't determine how many ordinary Spirit Mediums had escaped based on their character.
Now, with Yang Haoran's surroundings empty and corpses piled high at his feet, Big Sister knew without a doubt that all the Spirit Masters and Spirit Mediums under her command who hadn't fled had certainly met a tragic end at Yang Haoran's hands.
Among the many bodies, she recognized several familiar figures. Even if some were disfigured beyond recognition, she recognized the uniforms they wore – the standard attire of Spirit Mediums from their Gu Mo City.
She had quite a few Spirit Masters and an even larger number of Spirit Mediums under her command, yet now only she and Shang Yuanqi remained. The extent of this loss was evident, and it was no wonder her face was so grim.
Big Sister had experienced many storms and challenges to reach her current position. So, even though she was utterly furious and brimming with murderous intent towards Yang Haoran, she didn't shout or rave. Instead, her mind raced, contemplating a counter-strategy.
However, at that very moment, a black streak shot towards her location. Her pupils suddenly dilated, and she immediately dodged.
"Dodge!"
As the shout rang out, Big Sister had already moved to the side to dodge. Hearing this, Shang Yuanqi didn't look closer or ask questions. Trusting Big Sister implicitly, he didn't even think, instantly moving to dodge.
Remnant Moon sliced through the void, swiftly passing through the spot where Big Sister and Shang Yuanqi had just been. At this moment, Remnant Moon's size wasn't massive, but it was several times larger than normal. If Big Sister and Shang Yuanqi hadn't dodged in time, Remnant Moon, with its current size, could have easily cut them both in half at the waist.
Shang Yuanqi broke into a cold sweat. If he had hesitated for even a moment, he would surely have been struck by Remnant Moon. Judging by the power fluctuations Remnant Moon was emitting, he didn't believe that he, in his current state, could have withstood that attack.
Fortunately, he had complete trust in Big Sister. When Big Sister's warning sounded, he didn't hesitate for an instant, immediately dodging, thus successfully evading the incoming Remnant Moon.
Though he dodged, his Guardian Spirit's reaction was a half-beat too slow. Remnant Moon's furious Spirit Power directly tore his Guardian Spirit apart on the spot, transforming it into wisps of Yin Qi.
This scene caused Shang Yuanqi's expression to change, but he also didn't cry out, because he knew his Guardian Spirit was still alive.
Wisps of Yin Qi converged towards his location, then coalesced, and his Guardian Spirit reappeared. However, compared to before, his Guardian Spirit Body was noticeably fainter, no longer as solid. From this, it was clear that while Remnant Moon hadn't destroyed the Guardian Spirit entirely in one blow, it had inflicted significant damage.
In contrast, Big Sister's Blood-Clad Evil Spirit was far more formidable. The moment Big Sister's body moved to dodge, it immediately dodged as well, reacting even faster than Shang Yuanqi. Since Shang Yuanqi evaded the attack, it naturally did too, without suffering the slightest harm.
Remnant Moon, having missed its target with one strike, didn't retreat. Instead, it changed direction and attacked again.
Since Big Sister and Shang Yuanqi dodged in different directions, they were not in the same location. Remnant Moon had no doppelganger ability, so it could only attack one person, and it chose Big Sister as its target.
During its assault, Remnant Moon rapidly shrank in size, returning to its normal dimensions in the blink of an eye. Its speed also increased somewhat due to its reduced size.
Facing the incoming Remnant Moon once more, Big Sister chose not to meet it head-on, but to dodge again. Not to mention her current poor physical condition, even if she were at her peak, she wouldn't want to directly clash with Yang Haoran in his current state.
To alleviate Big Sister's pressure, Shang Yuanqi immediately formed hand seals, continuously unleashing powerful Spiritual Arts at Yang Haoran. He wanted to influence Yang Haoran in this way, and if he could inflict damage, that would of course be for the best.
With Shang Yuanqi making a move, his Guardian Spirit naturally wasn't idle either. Although its Spirit Body was severely damaged, it still used every means and all its strength to attack Yang Haoran. It would occasionally manipulate external objects, and at times it would even cast Spiritual Arts. Even though it knew its illusions would likely have little effect on Yang Haoran, it used everything regardless.
Big Sister's Blood-Clad Evil Spirit naturally wasn't idle either. Her methods were similar to those of Shang Yuanqi's Guardian Spirit, but the same techniques unleashed by the Blood-Clad Evil Spirit had a completely different level of power.
With Yang Haoran's proactive strike, the battle between the two sides began. This was Yang Haoran's first engagement with both the top and second-in-command of the Spirit Mediums since arriving in Gu Mo City.
Spirit Mediums and the Yin Division were mortal enemies, the kind who would fight to the death upon meeting. Previously, they hadn't immediately clashed because conditions weren't favorable, and each had their own ulterior motives.
Now, almost everyone from the other factions had tragically died here, with only a very few escaping. And in this Ancient Demon Palace, permeated with a strong scent of blood, only a few of them remained. In such circumstances, a life-and-death struggle was naturally inevitable between the two sides.
As the battle between the two sides unfolded, the Corpse King was, conversely, left unattended. If a normal person encountered such a situation, they would either choose to flee or secretly recover, then reap the benefits of others' struggles.
However, the Corpse King's choice was completely different. It neither chose to flee nor to secretly recover. Instead, its body flashed and disappeared from its spot, charging towards Shang Yuanqi, who was fiercely attacking Yang Haoran.
Shang Yuanqi had beaten it before, and it had never forgotten that. It had originally wanted to kill Shang Yuanqi first, but Big Sister hadn't given it the chance, leaving it no option but to fight Big Sister instead.
Now, Big Sister and Yang Haoran were locked in battle, with Big Sister at a disadvantage. In this situation, Big Sister certainly couldn't spare the effort for other matters. Even if it attacked Shang Yuanqi, Big Sister wouldn't be able to help him.
It felt that now was a good opportunity to kill Shang Yuanqi, which was why it made this decision!
