Chapter 1056 You Are Playing with Me!

The wooden sword Xu Jingwen currently wielded was quite formidable. Each strike inflicted significant damage upon the Ghost Fiend Soul Chains. Though he was alone and faced multiple Ghost Fiend Soul Chains, he didn't fall into a disadvantageous position; instead, he held the upper hand.

The formidable power unleashed by this wooden sword was not only due to Xu Jingwen's power augmentation, but also largely attributed to the sword itself, for it was no ordinary item, but a treasure of considerable might.

Yang Haoran wasn't surprised that the Ghost Fiend Soul Chains were no match for Xu Jingwen. This was within his expectations. After all, Xu Jingwen possessed genuine strength, and the two had only just begun to clash, so his internal power had not been heavily depleted. To subdue an expert of Xu Jingwen's caliber with just a single Ghost Art was clearly unrealistic.

However, Yang Haoran was not in a hurry. Xu Jingwen's strength was decent, but only relative to his own realm. In Yang Haoran's eyes, Xu Jingwen's meager strength was simply not worth a second glance.

If he hadn't been trying to conceal his true strength, Yang Haoran could have instantly killed Xu Jingwen with his current power. Xu Jingwen wouldn't even have had a chance to struggle.

As the Ghost Fiend Soul Chains were suppressed by Xu Jingwen, Remnant Moon broke free from the Corpse Ghoul's fierce assault, transforming into a black streak of light and shooting swiftly towards Xu Jingwen.

The Corpse Ghoul's figure flashed, once again blocking Remnant Moon's path, and then it unleashed another punch towards Remnant Moon.

Enveloped in thick Corpse Qi, the Corpse Ghoul's fist was not only unharmed by the sharp Remnant Moon, but instead sent Remnant Moon flying once more.

While Remnant Moon was incredibly fast, the Corpse Ghoul raised by Xu Jingwen was equally swift. No matter from which direction Remnant Moon attacked Xu Jingwen, the Corpse Ghoul would always intercept it in time. The two clashed incessantly for a while, but Remnant Moon simply couldn't breach the Corpse Ghoul's defenses to harm Xu Jingwen.

However, all of this was by Yang Haoran's design. Not only did he not unleash Remnant Moon's full power, he even intentionally slowed its speed considerably.

A moment later, the first Ghost Fiend Soul Chain dissipated into strands of Yin Qi under Xu Jingwen's wooden sword, quickly vanishing. Then came the second, the third. . . After about ten minutes, all the Ghost Fiend Soul Chains conjured by Yang Haoran's Ghost Art had completely dispersed under Xu Jingwen's wooden sword.

During this time, Yang Haoran did not attack Xu Jingwen directly. To outsiders, it appeared he was fully focused on controlling the Ghost Fiend Soul Chains and his Soul Armament, Remnant Moon, and was thus unable to employ any other means against Xu Jingwen.

With all the Ghost Fiend Soul Chains dispersed, Xu Jingwen was panting heavily, sweat beading on his forehead. It was evident he was somewhat fatigued, yet a smile had appeared on his face.

"Heh heh, your Ghost Art looks terrifying, but that's about it. Its power is far less potent than one might imagine."

Xu Jingwen sneered. Having successfully dispersed the Ghost Fiend Soul Chains, he saw himself as the victor. As the winner, there was absolutely no problem with him indulging in a moment of smugness and provoking his opponent, Yang Haoran.

Hearing this, Yang Haoran gave a cold smile.

"Heh heh, is that so?"

As Yang Haoran's words fell, his hands once again formed seals, his fingers shifting rapidly. It looked like he was about to unleash another Ghost Art.

Xu Jingwen's expression changed. Dealing with the Ghost Fiend Soul Chains just now had not been easy for him, and he had only just managed to destroy them. If Yang Haoran successfully unleashed another Ghost Art, it would certainly not bode well for him.

"Don't you dare!"

Xu Jingwen let out a low roar, then air-slashed towards Yang Haoran. The grayish-white sword qi ripped through the space, instantly appearing directly above Yang Haoran's head.

Just as the sword qi was about to cleave down from above Yang Haoran's head, Yang Haoran shifted his body horizontally, successfully dodging Xu Jingwen's strike.

And as he dodged, Yang Haoran's hand-sealing movements did not stop; instead, they flowed like water, completely unaffected.

Boom! ! !

The sword qi landed where Yang Haoran had just been standing, cleaving a bottomless crack into the ground. This demonstrated the sword strike's considerable power.

However, a miss, no matter how powerful, was useless. Xu Jingwen understood this perfectly, so his expression grew even uglier than before. Just as he prepared to swing his sword at Yang Haoran again, Yang Haoran's low voice already reached his ears.

"Ghost Art! Ghost Fiend Soul Chain! ! !"

Although Xu Jingwen didn't know much about Ghost Arts, these words left a deep impression on him, for Yang Haoran had just unleashed this very Ghost Art moments ago.

He had assumed Yang Haoran would employ a different Ghost Art, but to his surprise, the Ghost Art Yang Haoran unleashed was exactly the same as before.

As he was still puzzled by Yang Haoran's actions, several Ghost Fiend Soul Chains had already materialized, once again launching a siege against him!

"This move is useless against me! ! !"

Xu Jingwen roared, swinging his wooden sword, and counterattacked the Ghost Fiend Soul Chains with the most brutal and violent assault.

Logically, with the prior experience, dealing with these Ghost Fiend Soul Chains should have been easier for him. However, the reality was quite the opposite; not only did it not become easier, it became much more strenuous.

The reason was simple: although he had just destroyed all the Ghost Fiend Soul Chains, he himself had suffered considerable depletion. Conversely, the Ghost Fiend Soul Chains conjured by Yang Haoran this time, while not enhanced in power, had also not weakened. Naturally, it would be much more strenuous for him to deal with them.

He had assumed that a Ghost Art like the Ghost Fiend Soul Chain would undoubtedly consume a significant amount of Yang Haoran's Spirit Power with each use, and that a second use would surely require a recovery period. Yet, the reality was completely different from what he had imagined.

Xu Jingwen might not have admitted defeat, but the experts from other factions present could clearly see that he was now struggling significantly more against these Ghost Fiend Soul Chains. After all, none of them were blind; this was easily discernible.

When Xu Jingwen claimed this move was useless against him, no one present was foolish enough to believe his words.

Yang Haoran remained unchanged from before, not employing any other tactics against Xu Jingwen during this period. He still feigned full concentration on controlling the Ghost Fiend Soul Chains and Remnant Moon.

Ghostly laughter echoed and booms resonated continuously. Under Xu Jingwen's full-power assault, the number of Ghost Fiend Soul Chains gradually decreased, but the power fluctuations emanating from Xu Jingwen himself grew weaker and weaker, and his forehead was now covered in dense beads of sweat.

By the time the last Ghost Fiend Soul Chain was cleaved apart by his sword, he was already panting heavily, exhausted, and had acquired several new wounds on his body. Before he could even catch his breath, Yang Haoran's low voice once again reached his ears.

"Ghost Art! Ghost Fiend Soul Chain! ! !"

Xu Jingwen's pupils suddenly dilated. Though it was merely the same few words, hearing them now filled him with shock and anger, but more than anything, disbelief.

He couldn't believe Yang Haoran could unleash this move again. After all, powerful Ghost Arts also consumed a great deal of Spirit Power; they weren't something one could cast at will. But when he saw several Ghost Fiend Soul Chains materialize once more, his disbelief vanished, replaced by an even more intense shock.

Furthermore, a trace of fear, one he himself refused to acknowledge, began to sprout in his heart.

"You're fucking with me! ! !"

Xu Jingwen roared furiously at Yang Haoran. Then, taking advantage of the moment before the Ghost Fiend Soul Chains could launch their attack, he immediately retrieved a Dānyào from his spatial storage and swallowed it.

The instant he swallowed the Dānyào, the Ghost Fiend Soul Chains let out bone-chilling ghostly laughter and launched their assault on him once more.

He had no choice but to grit his teeth and continue the fight. However, this time the situation was different from before: the power fluctuations emanating from him not only didn't continue to weaken, but instead rapidly recovered and grew stronger.

From this, it wasn't hard to see that the Dānyào he had just consumed was primarily for restoring his expended strength.

The Dānyào Xu Jingwen had just consumed was indeed a pill for restoring one's strength. This Dānyào was highly valuable, so he usually couldn't bear to use it. But in the current situation, he had no choice; if he didn't take this Dānyào, he simply wouldn't survive this onslaught. Thus, he could only grudgingly use it.

It was precisely because he was so reluctant to use this Dānyào that his anger and killing intent towards Yang Haoran intensified. He secretly vowed to himself that no matter what, he would eliminate Yang Haoran today, or else he would never be able to swallow this humiliation!
