Chapter 1036: Each Pursues Their Own
For the next few days, Yang Haoran and his companions temporarily settled in the homes of the believers. To avoid being discovered, they acted with extreme caution at Yang Haoran's request.
To better carry out a series of tasks in Gu Mo City, they absolutely needed sufficient manpower. If manpower was insufficient, many tasks simply couldn't proceed normally.
Therefore, Yang Haoran first had Shui Ling secretly ascertain how many believers they had left. After Shui Ling confirmed the numbers, he selected nineteen people from these believers. He personally implanted the Death God Seal in these nineteen individuals, and these people thus became Gu Mo City's new generation of Night Watchers.
These people were all devout believers of the Death God; therefore, their loyalty was quite high. The possibility of traitors appearing, while not absolutely zero, was certainly low. After all, in the current situation, if they weren't extremely devout to the Death God internally, they would have long since switched allegiances to worship other deities to gain protection. They did not do this. Instead, they risked their lives to continue believing in the Death God. From this point alone, one could see how loyal they were.
Yang Haoran did not choose Night Watchers from ordinary people. This was precisely because he considered the issue of loyalty. The appearance of traitors among Shui Ling's subordinates served as a prior warning. He did not want the same tragedy to happen again. He would prevent it if he could, minimizing the risk as much as possible.
Of the nineteen Night Watchers, Yang Haoran assigned ten to Lu Wu and nine to Shui Ling. This way, both of them had ten subordinates each. And their identities remained as captains of their respective teams. Regarding this, he made no changes.
In just a single day, Yang Haoran had handled the matter properly. However, implanting nineteen Death God Seals in such a short period was a significant drain on him. But he was, after all, a powerful expert who had opened his Heaven and Earth Souls. Although the consumption was considerable, it wasn't enough to render him utterly weak.
Implanting the Death God Seal into believers, although it allowed them to possess powers that ordinary people did not, how to use the power within their bodies was another question.
While Yang Haoran was training Gu Mo City's new generation of Night Watchers, the Spirit Mediums were also secretly investigating Yang Haoran's background. They wanted to figure out exactly who Yang Haoran was and how capable he truly was.
Once they understood Yang Haoran's true capabilities, they would know if they could take him down. This would give them more confidence when they made their move.
Among the thirteen Spirit Masters, not everyone approved of Big Sister's approach. In some people's eyes, Yang Haoran was just one man. With his two followers, that made only three. As for Night Watchers like Lu Wu and Shui Ling, who hadn't even opened their Heaven Souls, they didn't even consider them. Naturally, they weren't counted.
Yang Haoran only had three people. Yet they, the Spirit Masters, numbered thirteen, and each of them was powerful. The disparity between the two sides was so vast there was no need for such caution. They could just directly kill Yang Haoran. Why go through all this trouble?
But these Spirit Masters could only keep such thoughts to themselves. They absolutely dared not voice them, because if they did, it would mean they had an opinion on Big Sister's arrangements. This would not be good for them.
Big Sister indeed had considerable means. In just a few days, she had gathered a significant amount of information about Yang Haoran.
Inside Gu Mo City's largest Spirit Temple, the thirteen Spirit Masters gathered once more. Big Sister sat in the main seat, smoking. The others were seated in their respective places. In front of each of them, a stack of documents was laid out.
"Time is a bit rushed. The information we've been able to gather is limited. The documents currently before you are about the Emissary of Death newly transferred to our Gu Mo City Underworld Office. It goes without saying that this information is incomplete, but for now, this is all we could gather. Please make do with it for now."
As Big Sister gave the command, the other Spirit Masters present each picked up the documents in front of them and began to read them carefully, page by page.
Big Sister had clearly read these documents long ago. Therefore, no documents were placed in front of her. She smoked, waiting for the other Spirit Masters to finish reading the information in their hands.
The content of the documents included Yang Haoran's name, portrait, ancestral home, when he became a Night Watcher, when he assumed the role of Emissary of Death, his strength, and what formidable experts he had under his command, among other things.
Although Big Sister said these documents were incomplete, truthfully, the information she had gathered was already quite comprehensive. Apart from some relatively secretive individuals and events, she had managed to collect almost everything else about Yang Haoran.
Although the information she had gathered wasn't a secret, Gu Mo City was very far from Lecheng. Under circumstances where nothing was known, to be able to collect such detailed information in just a few days was indeed not a simple feat, nor was it something just anyone could achieve.
Big Sister finished one cigarette. The other twelve Spirit Masters present had not yet finished reading the documents in their hands. She did not urge them. Instead, she lit another cigarette for herself and continued to wait quietly.
When she extinguished the butt of her second cigarette, one of the Spirit Masters slowly put down the documents in his hand. His expression was serious, his brow deeply furrowed. It seemed there was something on his mind he couldn't quite figure out.
As he put down the documents, the other Spirit Masters also began to put down their documents one after another. Without exception, they all turned their gaze towards Big Sister in the main seat. When the last Spirit Master also put down his documents, Big Sister finally crossed her legs and addressed the twelve Spirit Masters present.
"You've all seen the information on this Underworld Official. Now you can share your thoughts."
As her voice fell, a Spirit Master immediately voiced his opinion.
"Does this even need saying? We must immediately find this 'Yin dog' and kill him. We originally thought he was incredibly formidable, but it turns out he's just a paper tiger. Against a character like him, we have absolutely no need to be cautious!"
"Exactly! I think so too. Before, because we didn't know his background, we were hesitant. Now that we have this information, of course we don't need to fear him anymore. He's just a minor character who only became an Emissary of Death a few years ago. How strong can someone like that be, no matter how powerful he gets? I think there's absolutely no need for us to be afraid of him. Let's find him and eliminate him with decisive force. That way, other factions in Gu Mo City will see our Spirit Masters' methods and we can retrieve the 'face' someone lost last time!"
After reading about Yang Haoran, there was more than one or two Spirit Masters who thought Yang Haoran was just a paper tiger. They voiced their opinions to Big Sister, believing there was no need to fear Yang Haoran, and that they should just drag him out of Gu Mo City and eliminate him.
However, not everyone thought the same way as these individuals. There were still some who held different opinions.
"I, on the other hand, believe Yang Haoran isn't as simple as he appears. Although he only became an Emissary of Death a few years ago, the higher-ups of the Underworld Office aren't fools. If Yang Haoran didn't possess some genuine capability, why would they send him here to die and bring shame upon their Underworld Office?"
"I also think there's sense in that. This information can only serve as a reference. We can't judge Yang Haoran's strength based solely on these documents. Big Sister just said that this information is likely incomplete. Perhaps there's even more crucial information we haven't obtained yet. So, I believe it's best we don't act rashly for now. After we gather more information and confirm the exact level of Yang Haoran's strength, it won't be too late to make our move!"
There were also more than one or two Spirit Masters who agreed with this viewpoint. The two sides therefore began to argue intensely. Each felt that their own side's idea was the most correct.
Big Sister remained as before. Not only did she show no intention of stopping the two sides, but she instead watched their argument with great interest, looking like someone who enjoyed watching a show unfold without ever feeling it was too much trouble.
