Chapter 1019: Proving Identity
An invisible, massive hand reached out to seize the man. Though confused, the man’s reaction speed was anything but slow; with a flash of his figure, he evaded the unseen hand.
Failing to capture the man with one strike, Xiang Chuan showed no annoyance. Instead, a flicker of interest appeared on his face.
"Hehe, your reaction speed is decent, but this little bit of skill isn't enough to impress me."
Xiang Chuan chuckled, his tone brimming with strong confidence.
"Stop playing around. We don't have time to waste here."
Yang Haoran's reminder entered Xiang Chuan's ears. Xiang Chuan, who had originally intended to enjoy himself with the man, could only dismiss the thought upon hearing Yang Haoran's words.
Although the Spirit Power unleashed by the man was not weak, it paled in comparison to Xiang Chuan's. Among Night Watchers who had not yet opened their Heaven Soul, the man was likely at the very peak. However, Xiang Chuan was a Pharmacist at the Spirit Medicine realm, and quite a formidable one even within that realm. The gap in their cultivation realms was not something the man's agility alone could bridge.
Without any surprise, even though the man exerted his full strength and pushed his speed to the limit, he still couldn't evade Xiang Chuan's second strike. His body was firmly seized by the invisible hand, and no matter how much he struggled and resisted, he couldn't break free.
The man roared loudly at Yang Haoran. Although it was Xiang Chuan who controlled him, he could tell that Yang Haoran was the leader.
Yang Haoran did not answer the man. At his signal, Xiang Chuan tore open space, forcibly pulling the man into the spatial rift. In the blink of an eye, the four of them vanished from Gu Mo City's largest Death God Temple.
Not long after the four disappeared, the space where the Death God Temple's statue had collapsed violently fluctuated. A spatial rift appeared, and a figure emerged from within.
This individual was a young man appearing to be in his twenties. His entire body was shrouded in a thick layer of Yin Qi, but the power emanating from him was not Spirit Power, but rather the Communication Power exclusive to Spirit Mediums.
After stepping out of the spatial rift, the young man scanned his surroundings with a puzzled expression. The entire Death God Temple was eerily silent and desolate; apart from a pile of rubble, he found nothing.
"Strange, I clearly sensed Spirit Power here just now, so why did it suddenly vanish?"
The puzzled voice came from the young man's lips. He then closed his eyes, sensing intently.
A moment later, the young man opened his eyes. Under his careful perception, he had made some discoveries, and his tightly closed eyes snapped open.
"There are indeed traces of Spirit Power remaining, but apart from that, there's another power. Who does this power belong to? An Exorcist?"
The young man felt a hint of doubt in his heart. He didn't leave immediately, but instead began to meticulously inspect the Death God Temple.
When Yang Haoran stepped out of the spatial rift again, the four of them had already arrived in a secluded corner. To avoid revealing themselves, Yang Haoran casually set up a restrictive barrier, shrouding the corner beneath it and severing its connection to the outside world.
The man, who had been forcibly pulled out of the spatial rift, was about to question Yang Haoran and the other two about their identities. However, when he saw the Spirit Power emanating from Yang Haoran as he set up the restrictive barrier, the anger on his face instantly stiffened.
"You're. . . you're one of us, from the Underworld Office!"
The man, now realizing the truth, immediately showed a look of shock, his face filled with disbelief.
"Hehe, you're right, I am indeed from the Underworld Office," Yang Haoran responded with a smile. Receiving Yang Haoran's affirmative reply, the man's face did not show joy, but rather a look of disbelief.
"Impossible! I know everyone in Gu Mo City's Underworld Office; you're not among them!"
The man's words made Xiang Chuan burst out laughing.
"Hehe, you're really adorably foolish. You know everyone in Gu Mo City's Underworld Office, but what about outside Gu Mo City? Do you think your Gu Mo City is the only place with Underworld officials?"
Although Xiang Chuan's words sounded a bit unpleasant to the man, they served as a reminder, making him instantly realize the truth.
He had to admit that Xiang Chuan was right. Throughout the entire New Beginning Realm, the number of Underworld officials was astonishing, and the number of Night Watchers under them was even vaster. It wasn't just their Gu Mo City that had people from the Underworld Office.
Seeing the man's astonished expression, Xiang Chuan chuckled, then pointed at Yang Haoran and spoke to the man.
"This is my Big Brother. He is also your Gu Mo City's newly appointed Emissary of Death. The Underworld Office high command knows that your Gu Mo City's Underworld Office has been crippled by the Spirit Mediums, which is why they sent my Big Brother to clean up this mess."
Xiang Chuan's words made the man's heart involuntarily quicken. His expression was one of profound shock, but beyond that, there was still a hint of doubt, perhaps because everything had come so suddenly that he dared not believe it was all real.
"You. . . are you truly our Gu Mo City's newly appointed Emissary of Death?"
The man asked, his tone laced with both doubt and a palpable unease. The doubt stemmed from his inability to believe Yang Haoran was indeed Gu Mo City's new Emissary of Death, while the unease came from his fear that it was all a fabrication, that the hope that had just blossomed in his heart would turn to despair.
Yang Haoran's face held a faint smile as he spoke to Xiang Chuan.
"Release him."
Upon hearing this, Xiang Chuan chuckled, then withdrew the power restraining the man, allowing him to regain his freedom. The man did not take the opportunity to escape; instead, he fixed his gaze intently on Yang Haoran.
Yang Haoran, with a gentle wave of his hand, retrieved an item from his independent space. It was precisely the Underworld Iron Tome, an artifact only true Underworld officials possessed.
"Hehe, do you recognize this?"
Yang Haoran asked with a smile. Since merely releasing his Spirit Power was not enough to convince the man, he decided to produce more compelling evidence to prove his identity. Only by completely gaining the man's trust could he obtain the information he needed and ensure his subsequent work proceeded smoothly.
The man's gaze fell upon the Underworld Iron Tome, his eyes immediately lighting up. He then nodded heavily at Yang Haoran.
"I recognize it! This is the Underworld Iron Tome, a treasure only Emissaries of Death can possess!"
Hearing this, Yang Haoran smiled and waved his hand. The Underworld Iron Tome opened, and under his control, he flipped to his transfer order from Lecheng to Gu Mo City, which also bore his photograph.
After reading the transfer order, the man no longer harbored any doubts about Yang Haoran's identity. He immediately dropped to one knee, saluting Yang Haoran with an expression of intense excitement.
"Your subordinate pays respects, Soul-Sower! Your subordinate pays respects, Soul-Sower! ! !"
Not only was the man's expression agitated, but his tone of voice was equally fervent, even trembling slightly. It was evident just how overwhelmed he was at that moment.
Yang Haoran understood why he was so agitated, and Xiang Chuan and Huang Sha understood it equally well.
Gu Mo City's Underworld Office had no Emissary of Death to oversee its affairs, suppressed so severely by the Spirit Mediums that it couldn't raise its head. Not only were their temples destroyed, but their Night Watchers were being hunted like stray dogs. In such a situation, Yang Haoran's unexpected arrival brought hope for Gu Mo City's Underworld Office to rise again. As a Night Watcher of Gu Mo City's Underworld Office, how could the man not be excited?
"Hehe, please rise first."
Yang Haoran said with a smile. Hearing this, the man immediately straightened up. Facing Yang Haoran now, his previous unfriendliness was gone, replaced only by reverence.
"Your subordinate was disrespectful to the Soul-Sower earlier. Please, Soul-Sower, mete out any punishment!"
Yang Haoran smiled and shook his head, then said:
"Ignorance is no sin, and moreover, I don't believe you did anything wrong, so there's no need for punishment. This isn't the place to talk. Find somewhere you deem safe; we'll sit down and chat leisurely. Currently, I don't know much about Gu Mo City's Underworld Office, and I'll need you to provide me with a lot of information, as you undoubtedly know much more about this area than I do."
At the mention of a safe place, the man's expression couldn't help but shift.
"To answer the Soul-Sower, at present, there are no safe places left in Gu Mo City for us Night Watchers."
This statement surprised Yang Haoran slightly. He then said with a smile:
"You've misunderstood my meaning. I just need a temporary place to settle; it doesn't need to be absolutely safe. We can't stay in this corner forever, can we?"
The man nodded, then said:
"Your subordinate understands the Soul-Sower's meaning. However, I don't possess the power to tear space, so I'll need the Soul-Sower to make a move."
Hearing this, Yang Haoran looked towards Xiang Chuan.
"Hehe, for a trivial matter like this, there's no need for my Big Brother to step in. I, his younger brother, can handle it. Leave the spatial tearing to me; you just point the way."
