Chapter 1018: If you don't want to die, go Quickly

While many might have chosen to adopt Xiang Chuan's suggestion, Yang Haoran did not agree with it.

The reason was simple: he was a newcomer and didn't have a thorough understanding of Gu Mo City's situation, especially the Spirit Mediums. He had no idea what their true strength was or if they had formed alliances with other factions. Proceeding with Xiang Chuan's suggestion would be far too risky. After all, if Yang Haoran knew how to hide his strength, couldn't others do the same?

Given his cautious nature, he would absolutely not act so rashly unless he was truly pushed to a corner, and clearly, things hadn't reached that point yet.

Yang Haoran smiled and shook his head. Though he said nothing, both Xiang Chuan and Huang Sha understood what his head shake implied.

"Come on, Boss, isn't my suggestion good enough? It's straightforward and decisive, but you actually look down on it. Are you really that timid?"

Xiang Chuan ribbed him with an exaggerated expression, but Yang Haoran remained unfazed, as if he hadn't heard a word.

"Boss," Huang Sha suggested, "how about we split up and scout around? We might stumble upon some unexpected discoveries."

Huang Sha offered. Yang Haoran considered it, then nodded slightly.

"That works too," Yang Haoran said, nodding. "Though it will take some time, it's the most reliable approach right now."

Yang Haoran nodded, agreeing with Huang Sha's suggestion. With Gu Mo City's Death God Temple reduced to such a deplorable state, there was no longer any need to rush. No matter how bad things got, they couldn't be much worse than they already were. In such circumstances, he truly had no reason to be anxious, much less to take reckless risks.

No sooner had he spoken than Yang Haoran suddenly sensed something, turning his head to look at the dilapidated main entrance of the Death God Temple. At the same time, both Xiang Chuan and Huang Sha also cast their gazes towards the area Yang Haoran was looking at.

A figure appeared in their line of sight. It was a man who appeared to be in his thirties, built quite sturdily. However, his complexion was somewhat pale, as if he was recovering from a severe illness, giving off a weak aura.

They couldn't sense any power fluctuations from him, making it impossible to determine whether he was an ordinary person or someone extraordinary. As Yang Haoran and his companions fixed their gaze on him, his eyes, in turn, settled upon the three of them.

"Who are you people?"

The man frowned, his expression turning cold, and with vigilance in his eyes, he asked Yang Haoran and the others in a deep voice. His unfriendly demeanor was evident from his facial expression and tone of voice.

"Heh heh," Xiang Chuan chuckled. "My mom always said that when you ask someone who they are, you should introduce yourself first. That's polite. Didn't your mom teach you that?"

Xiang Chuan chuckled, his words clearly a veiled insult. The man, whose brow was already furrowed, immediately frowned even harder.

"Heh heh, please don't take offense, brother," Yang Haoran said with a smile. "My friend here just loves to joke. If he's offended you in any way, please be lenient and don't lower yourself to his level."

"A joke? Hmph! Your friend certainly has a way with words! Tell me, who are you people, and what are you doing here?"

The man spoke in a cold voice. His attitude towards Yang Haoran and the others hadn't softened because of Yang Haoran's polite demeanor; on the contrary, Xiang Chuan's previous remark had made him even more unfriendly.

Xiang Chuan wanted to fire back a few words at the man, but Yang Haoran stopped him with a dismissive wave.

"The three of us heard that all the Death God Temples in Gu Mo City had been destroyed. We were curious, but also a little disbelieving, so we came to take a look."

Yang Haoran casually offered an excuse, explaining with a smile.

"Just looking? Hmph, I don't think you're here for something as simple as a look. There's nothing to see here, and no easy pickings for you. I'm telling you, if you don't want to die, you'd best leave this place immediately."

The man's attitude already made Xiang Chuan quite uncomfortable, and now his words naturally intensified the displeasure in Xiang Chuan's heart.

"Heh heh, I'd like to see," Xiang Chuan said. "If we don't leave here today, will we truly die here? If you think you have the ability, then come on, let's see you try."

Xiang Chuan spoke, and though he wore his usual mischievous grin, a faint killing intent laced his words.

The man's expression turned grim, but he didn't make a move against Yang Haoran and the others.

"From your tone, none of you are ordinary people. But then again, what ordinary person would dare come here looking for easy pickings? Even if you aren't ordinary, this isn't a place you can just waltz into. I'll give you one last warning: if you don't leave now, you won't be able to later, even if you want to. Your choice is your own; if you're hell-bent on seeking death, I don't have the time to stop you."

The man uttered these words, then strode towards the collapsed Death God statue. From his demeanor, it seemed he was unwilling to bother with Yang Haoran and the others any longer.

"Heh heh," Yang Haoran said with a chuckle. "It seems this brother isn't an ordinary person either. I wonder, are you a Night Watcher, or a Spirit Medium?"

Yang Haoran spoke with a smile. His words made the man halt his steps, and his expression grew even more vigilant than before. rA@n0BЕS

"I don't know what you're talking about."

The man replied in a deep voice, while Yang Haoran simply chuckled.

"In this situation, ordinary Death God followers certainly wouldn't come here. The only people most likely to be here are one of two types: Spirit Mediums, or those from the Underworld Office. From your speech and demeanor, you don't seem like an ordinary person, so I deduce you're either a Spirit Medium or someone from the Underworld Office. Which is it?"

The man watched Yang Haoran, not responding immediately. He simply stared intently at him, and only after several seconds did he speak in a deep voice.

"Anyway, I have no intention of leaving here alive today, so I'm not afraid to tell you the truth: I belong to the latter. As for you three, do you belong to the former or the latter? Judging by your furtive demeanor, I'd say you're the former, aren't you!"

As the man spoke, he unsealed his own power, and a considerable surge of Spirit Power instantly erupted from his body.

Yang Haoran's words served as a reminder to him. Just as Yang Haoran had said, in the current situation, ordinary believers certainly wouldn't come here looking for trouble. There were only two types of people who would likely appear here: Spirit Mediums or those from the Underworld Office.

Since Yang Haoran had proactively brought up the topic, it was highly probable that he was one of these two types of individuals. Therefore, the man simply unsealed himself and released his Spirit Power.

In the man's opinion, it was more likely that Yang Haoran and his companions were Spirit Mediums. His reasoning was that he knew all the Night Watchers in Gu Mo City, both those still alive and those who had passed away; there wasn't a single one he didn't recognize. This was why he held such a belief.

Since he suspected Yang Haoran and the others were Spirit Mediums, yet still dared to release his Spirit Power to reveal his own identity, the reason was clear: he had come with a resolve to die today, and his objective for the day was also Spirit Mediums. Thus, he naturally wouldn't continue to conceal his identity.

Feeling the Spirit Power emanating from the man, Yang Haoran's eyebrow twitched. Both Xiang Chuan and Huang Sha, meanwhile, revealed a hint of surprise on their faces. Xiang Chuan was slightly astonished because he hadn't expected the man to be from the Underworld Office. Huang Sha's surprise, however, stemmed from the fact that a member of the Underworld Office dared to so brazenly unleash his Spirit Power—a move that, in Huang Sha's eyes, was simply asking for death.

"Tear open space. Take him out of here immediately."

Yang Haoran didn't answer the man. After sensing the Spirit Power he released, Yang Haoran shifted his gaze to Xiang Chuan and issued his command.

Xiang Chuan understood Yang Haoran's meaning. He chuckled, then reached out to grab the man from a distance.

"To search high and low for something, only to find it effortlessly!"

Xiang Chuan's words, coupled with his actions, only solidified the man's suspicion, making him even more certain that Yang Haoran and the others were Spirit Mediums.

But then he realized he was mistaken, because the power Xiang Chuan used was not the Communication Power unique to Spirit Mediums at all.
