Chapter 838: The Long Road
However, Ke Mo's disappointment only lasted for a moment. After all, he quickly realized that he still had tens of thousands of years of life ahead of him; he was a true immortal, and such a long lifespan meant every possibility lay before him.
Even a rare, once-in-a-century perfect match, something ordinary people might never encounter in their lives, he would surely meet hundreds of times more in the future... What was missed was missed; it wasn't a big deal at all.
Thinking this, Ke Mo slowly let go.
"Your Majesty."
"Is something the matter?"
"May I try to contact him?"
Originally, he had no interest in this legend buried in history, but suddenly he had a new idea.
Especially after witnessing the power the other party displayed.
He had always believed it was just a secret tale circulating among the upper echelons, filled with exaggerated descriptions, but now, it seemed things were not so simple.
"..." Ke Mo was helpless, but there was nothing he could do.
He did indeed have ways to trace and locate the entity behind Wei Ni Si, but these were all methods akin to soul-searching, which he couldn't employ against this temporary ally.
Since Wei Ni Si's path was a dead end, he turned his gaze towards the Boundless Magic Net, which was now extending outwards endlessly.
Deep within the Boundless Magic Net, perhaps lay the answers he sought.
After all, this too was a cosmic construct he had personally designed and built with his own hands.
"Negotiations failed?" Inside the Blood Alliance's main base, Habsburg-von-Xi Liu, the head of the Habsburg family, said to Ye De Xian, whose left hand had suddenly burst due to a power backlash.
"That woman summoned a power imbued with destructive properties, killing my avatar." Seconds later, Ye De Xian, whose left hand had regenerated, solemnly relayed the information his avatar had brought back.
"Even a turtle bites?" Xi Liu asked, intrigued.
All this time, Wei Ni Si, this empress who did not live up to her title, had relied on two True Immortal Artifacts to barely gain the ability to contend with True Immortals. However, she could only defend against attacks, utterly incapable of counter-attacking, which was why True Immortals who looked down on her secretly called her a "turtle."
"I suspect she has completely become that person's puppet, but then again, something still feels off."
"You mean this destructive property?" Xi Liu conjured a wisp of black lightning in his fingers, maintaining it within a vacuum.
"Exactly, this destructive true intent; it could actually damage my main body through the avatar."
"Logically, his power isn't this 'flavor'..." Xi Liu brought the wisp of lightning to his nose, sniffing it with a nose encased in silver armor.
"This is a power that is insane, utterly steeped in destruction."
"It must be him! And he recognized me."
"Could he have cultivated to the point of qi deviation during his seclusion?" The results of probing this wisp of imprisoned power told Xi Liu that the owner of the power should be a madman enamored with, or perhaps obsessed with, destroying everything.
If Bai Mo had indeed gone into seclusion and cultivated himself into qi deviation, transforming into a madman who knew only destruction, it wouldn't be entirely implausible; after all, the Bai Mo they remembered was a somewhat eccentric fellow. However, if that were the case, their troubles would truly be immense.
An entity of at least the eighth stage, perhaps even the ninth, if its power were projected, would be utterly sufficient to annihilate the current Imperial Fleet.
The terrifying power of a True Sun Star Lord, based on Bai Mo's descriptions and their collective deductions, had been quietly simulated on the supercomputers of several research flagships.
Below the True Immortal stage, there would be no chance of escape.
And at their current distance of less than ten light-years, a seven-stage True Immortal would have less than a ten percent chance of surviving for more than twenty years.
Because the True Sun Star Lord's power projection range would continuously extend outwards at the speed of light; unless one could constantly flee at the speed of light, being overtaken would only be a matter of time.
The Empire had toiled in scientific research for several centuries, yet the maximum speed their spacecraft could achieve was only 0.7 times the speed of light, and that was limited to a very few scout ships specialized in speed.
The main fleet, burdened with its full complement, had an average cruising speed of, at most, 0.1 times the speed of light.
True Immortals themselves could achieve ultra-high-speed movement close to 0.9 times the speed of light, but that was unsustainable; at most, they could maintain it for a year or a year and a half before exhausting their power.
Hiding in other spatial layers was a method, but they dared not gamble on whether the True Sun Star Lord would be unable to follow them.
"What do you think?" A voice suddenly emanated faintly from Xi Liu's hand.
The sudden fright nearly made this battle-hardened vampire drop the wisp of dark lightning he had constrained, sending it tumbling to the ground.
"Spells possess nascent spirits, and fists carry divine will; I never expected you to have reached such a realm."
Even for a potential enemy, Ye De Xian did not stint on his admiration for this display.
Upon reaching the True Immortal realm, every move and every stance could carry one's own Dao Concept. Among them, those who had profound cultivation in the Martial Path of Human Immortals could even manifest their fist-intent into a special spirit energy lifeform with true self-awareness and sentience.
Such lifeforms could exist independently or serve as temporary vessels for one's own consciousness.
However, this applied to the main body; for a True Immortal's main body to achieve fist-intent carrying divine will, and for any casual attack from an avatar to also possess a nascent spirit – these were two entirely different matters.
In just a few brief moments, countless thoughts had already whirled through their minds.
"The power of this lightning is too weak; my consciousness probably won't last more than a few minutes, so I'll be brief."
"Behind Wei Ni Si is one of my obsessions, and this obsession has only one thought: to destroy all life."
"..."
Xi Liu desperately wanted to retort, asking why such a troublesome inner demon would even be born, but he held back.
"But my interaction with him seemed quite normal; I didn't sense any trace of madness." Ye De Xian interjected.
"That's because he believes it necessary to create a communicative personality to more efficiently complete the process of destruction."
"..."
"What about you then? Can't you deal with it? You wouldn't want your 'control group' to be destroyed by another version of yourself, would you?"
Xi Liu and Ye De Xian were both old-timers from the Earth Era, keenly aware that Bai Mo had preserved the Human Federation back then simply to observe other possibilities.
And precisely because of that, they understood even more clearly that he wouldn't strike at the Empire.
Unless, he had changed his mind.
"My affairs have reached a critical juncture; I cannot extricate myself and can only rely on your strength to stop him."
"..."
"If you feel your strength is insufficient, you can also leverage the power of Black Magic."
"Black Magic? Wasn't that something he created?"
"No, not entirely."
PS: Many thanks to Mo Xiaohan, our venerable patron who rewarded the Alliance Leader title.
