Chapter 724: He
A few months ago, Lun Qin would never have imagined that she, a cursed person likely destined to live out her days in a mental hospital, would now be fighting tooth and nail for the survival of humanity.
And the blood she was bathed in was that of these rather corrosive monsters.
The monster, covered in blood, ignored its wounds and frantically brandished every scythe-like appendage it could still control, attempting to annihilate all living things in its vicinity.
When these scythe-like tentacles, capable of flying at subsonic speeds, indiscriminately soared through the air and burrowed into the ground, the apocalypse arrived for Hope City.
Those who foolishly thought to hide within the camp were torn to shreds by these tentacles, laden with destruction and death. Even the human body's most resilient skull was as soft as butter before these scythes.
Believing themselves well-hidden, one by one their scalps were cleaved open by the frenzied scythes in terror, scattering red and white matter across the ground.
But this was merely the end of its tether.
After expending its last ounce of strength, the Reaper's remaining tentacles could no longer support its massive body, and it collapsed completely to the ground.
Amidst a thunderous roar, those who had miraculously survived felt the earth tremble, and the monster never rose again.
Lun Qin had fully plunged herself into the cavity.
Only when she saw the monster lying motionless on the ground did she slowly emerge from within.
This Reaper was truly colossal; Lun Qin seemed to be emerging from a collapsed skyscraper.
......
Gazing at the enormous wound beneath her feet, Lun Qin still wasn't satisfied. She wanted to whip the corpse a few more times, stomping with heavy thuds over a dozen times, completely crushing this "skyscraper" into ruins.
By this point, her shoes had long since been incinerated into ash from the horrific friction, and only a few threads remained of the stockings on her feet. Yet, this in no way diminished the destructive power of each stomp.
The Reaper's surface defense, comparable to hardened fiber, was no different from ordinary stockings easily torn under this "war stomp."
Amidst the red blood, everything else had been trampled to bits by her, save for a human-like head lying there.
There was a massive wound on the head, the faint outline of a foot still discernible within it.
"Why would someone be controlling it from the inside?"
She stared at this bizarre scene, and in a flash of insight, felt as though she'd grasped a crucial clue.
It was about the truth of this world.
That face was somewhat familiar to her; it was the uncle from their original world, the one she and her brother had summoned, who called himself a Holy Progenitor.
"But wasn't he on the same side as the Holy Progenitors? Why is he now trying to kill them?"
......
"You are... puzzled?"
A wisp of black smoke emerged from behind her, transforming into the likeness of Bai Mo.
Lun Qin gazed at the person behind her, a mix of surprise and uncertainty in her eyes.
After the fierce battle she'd just endured, though she hadn't suffered any injuries, her body was severely depleted, bordering on dizziness. This greatly impaired her ability to think.
She could only hold on through sheer willpower.
Aside from everything else, she needed to at least find some clothes and wash off all this gore before she could afford to pass out...
"Anyway, you wouldn't tell me what I want to know." After repeatedly hitting a wall, Lun Qin had gradually come to understand this individual's temperament and simply stopped wasting her efforts.
......
From beside the Reaper's corpse, a path enveloped in smoke and dust unfurled.
It was the trail of her frantic dash.
After slaying the monster, she left the scene at top speed, as her current appearance was truly unfit for public viewing.
During the fierce battle, Lun Qin had been able to conceal everything with a speed almost imperceptible to the naked eye, but now that the fight was over, they would surely approach.
As for that guy behind her, forget it. He wasn't human anyway.
In a nearby lake, she desperately scrubbed the bloodstains from her body.
Just moments ago, watching the monster indiscriminately slaughter innocents, her fury had blinded her to how disgusting it was. Now, having exited berserker mode, Lun Qin finally began to feel waves of nausea.
She had actually drilled into the monster's body, tearing and grappling amidst a mass of organs and tissues, ending up completely drenched in its bodily fluids.
Alas, there was no male lead to sneak a peek by the lake; Bai Mo, the only one who could be considered human-like, had once again vanished into thin air.
She changed into the clothes she had prepared beforehand and slept for an entire day.
......
Waking up the next day, Lun Qin felt as if the entire world had changed.
The air had become as viscous as glue, reminding her of the uncomfortable sensation she'd experienced inside the monster yesterday.
She could perceive the interaction of every breath she exhaled with the surrounding atmosphere.
And every subtle movement, every slight tremor of her body, every ripple it created in the air.
She could even detect the reflected air currents produced when her exhaled breath struck rocks or soil.
With every action, she could feel her connection to the entire world becoming infinitely closer, allowing her to survey the world from a brand new, higher perspective.
Lun Qin felt her body lighter than ever before. Her past self had been like someone constantly walking with a several-ton burden on her back.
She tried taking a gentle step forward.
The air, usually imperceptible, now hindered her like thick glue, making this step far more arduous than any before.
It was as if every inch she moved forward required tearing through countless barriers.
Yet, with just this single step, a step that felt like walking underwater, she turned back to find she had already covered five hundred meters.
An astonishing fissure appeared on the ground.
The atmosphere shrieked, and the furious wind churned by the sonic boom made her torn skirt flap wildly.
Compared to her rapidly surging power, the fibers of her clothing were simply too fragile.
Even though she had chosen the most durable denim skirt among conventional fabrics and taken her step with utmost care, after that single stride, an unpleasant tearing sound still emanated.
"Can I know how many people are left on this planet?" she suddenly asked.
"Eighty million."
"......"
"The Reapers truly are reapers of human lives."
She sighed lightly and returned to what was once Hope City.
After yesterday's destructive death throes of the Reaper, the place had been utterly reduced to ruins, with numerous dried bloodstains still visible among the collapsed buildings.
"Where are the others?" Lun Qin spotted her brother at a glance; he was sitting in what used to be his tent before it collapsed, lost in thought.
"They looked for you for ages, couldn't find you, and now almost all of them have left."
"Alright."
"What about you?"
"If I don't wait for you here, where else can I go?"
Lun Heping said helplessly.
Yesterday, he too had walked a lap through the gates of hell, profoundly realizing that in front of the Reaper, his meager strength was as good as non-existent.
Rather than risk encountering other monsters by wandering around, it was better to stay put and wait for his sister to return.
In Lun Heping's eyes, the one least likely to run into trouble was definitely her..
