Chapter 68: Wolverine

"Roar...!" Debroglie let out a howl, and his body began to rapidly transform. Coverings sprouted on the backs of his hands and his palms, his fingernails swiftly sharpened into formidable claws, and the muscles that had unnaturally bloated due to his zombification paradoxically began to shrink, yet clearly became more explosive. At the same time, a fine layer of protective hair emerged on his skin, and his ears sharpened to points.

Bai Mo, like countless final bosses, observed Debroglie's transformation without haste, with no intention of interrupting him, despite his speed being more than sufficient to easily halt Debroglie's metamorphosis within seconds.

In just a few seconds, even an ordinary person could throw eight to ten punches, let alone a monster like him.

Looking at Debroglie, he recalled the person he had met in the Dao Academy testing room a few months prior. That person was also a transformation-type Ability User. Bai Mo speculated that their principles might be similar, both involving rapid changes at the genetic level, a type of spirit energy-induced transformation at the genetic level.

"What a shame this guy actually developed an initial Life Field. It blocked my psychokinesis and spiritual observation."

"He's completely Wolverine!" Austin, a fervent fan of American comics, exclaimed from the side.

"So, should we help Officer Debroglie deal with the enemy?" Everyone present was Western, Debroglie was a police officer, and the other party was a criminal. Emotionally, they were completely biased towards him.

"Let's first observe the true strength of both sides. If Officer Debroglie can win alone, there's no need for us to intervene." This was the view of the more cautious individuals.

"We have so many people here, what's there to be afraid of? I'm from the Black Hand Gang to begin with!" Two hoodlums who had miraculously survived the mutation shouted defiantly.

"Right, right, right! We have so many people, we can surround and kill him!" This was the thought of those who had never witnessed a battle between Ability Users, and who, having just gained ten times their former physical strength, couldn't clearly assess the situation.

Austin also felt a rush of blood to her head, wanting to join their ranks and help "Wolverine," but at that moment, she suddenly recalled a sentence Bai Mo had said to her that afternoon.

"Why should I be afraid of something I can crush with a single thought!"

"He didn't seem to be joking. It was more like he was calmly stating a fact. And he had also shown me kindness, not only telling me about nuclear radiation and spirit qi concentration, but also giving me this book which is of great use to me." Austin thought, holding the Martial Edict in her hand.

It was fine to just talk tough, but hot-blooded fools were, after all, a minority. Most people might offer moral condemnation, but true intentions were revealed only when it was time to step forward.

In the end, among the twenty-two people present, only seven truly sided with Debroglie. The rest chose to remain neutral while the situation was unclear.

"I didn't expect you guys to be so cowardly, all talk and no action, just like those keyboard warriors who only know how to spew insults!" The two hoodlums mocked those who remained neutral.

"We're strategizing before acting! Unlike you, whose brains have been squeezed out by your swollen muscles!" Someone retorted indignantly.

...

The two sides suddenly started squabbling among themselves. Bai Mo didn't attack either, just stood by and watched the show.

"Thank you." "Wolverine" unleashed his immense Aura, instantly suppressing both bickering parties. Clearly, when the two sides were arguing endlessly, muscles and fists were the strongest arguments. Even an innocuous "thank you" could seal the deal.

"Are you that confident?" Debroglie asked Bai Mo, who was calmly watching the spectacle.

He didn't speak. He merely moved his thoughts, making everyone within a twenty-meter radius of him feel a downward vertical force.

Except for Debroglie, whose Life Field prevented direct interference with his body, everyone else, upon approaching within twenty meters of Bai Mo, felt their bodies as if caught in a gravitational field nearly ten times normal gravity. Even those with explosive muscles could only move with great difficulty within such a high-intensity psychokinetic field.

"Austin, is he the Ability User you mentioned who killed countless zombies?" Seeing the others moving slowly as if stuck in glue, the spectators who had already leaped to a safe distance quietly asked Austin.

"Yes, but I only had time to tell Team Leader Markowitz before they already started fighting."

"Good thing we didn't get involved. Compared to us, that guy who continuously slaughtered countless zombies is the real monster, isn't he?" A big man who had escaped the indiscriminate psychokinetic field said with lingering fear.

"This power is useless against me!" Debroglie didn't even glance at his "teammates" sprawled on the ground.

"I know, my ability isn't meant to be used like this. This is just to clear the field."

Bai Mo "drifted with the wind" as if completely defying gravity, casually evading Debroglie's attacks, while continuously using his psychokinesis, like teasing a small dog, to "gently" toss the ubiquitous ruins and debris at him.

Debroglie continuously smashed the materials Bai Mo threw at him with his immense transformed strength, while relentlessly giving chase.

Upon realizing that the other party was merely kiting him, using long-range attacks to harass him, a purely physical Ability User, Debroglie, whose brain seemed to be filled with muscles, became somewhat exasperated.

He smashed building after building with his fists, like a bulldozer, further devastating Rome, which was already in ruins from two nuclear bombs and a tsunami.

"His strength and speed are both about eighty percent of mine," Bai Mo mused to himself. "Next, I'll test his regeneration to see if it's as formidable as Wolverine's."

Using his psychokinesis, from a hidden corner of a ruined building, Bai Mo controlled two sharply pointed steel bars, sending them rapidly flying towards Debroglie.

The fully concentrated Debroglie dodged the first "javelin," but the second "javelin" was hidden behind a giant slab of concrete flying simultaneously. After punching through the concrete, he found he could no longer evade this second "javelin."

The second steel bar penetrated Debroglie's vicinity, near his shoulder blade. It only went in two centimeters before being stopped by his muscles, far from penetrating through.

He immediately pulled out the embedded steel bar with force, then twisted the steel bar with his overdeveloped muscular hands, and "returned the favor" to Bai Mo by throwing the twisted bar like a boomerang.

In less than ten seconds, at a speed almost clearly visible to the naked eye, the wound caused by the steel bar had already healed. His formidable regenerative ability was evident.

After being continuously harassed by long-range attacks, Debroglie also learned to throw objects back at Bai Mo in retaliation. However, Bai Mo's psychokinesis could continuously act upon both parties' projectiles, so most of the kinetic energy of Debroglie's thrown attacks was offset by the time they reached Bai Mo..
