Chapter 65: Choice

Fifty kilometers north of Rome.

"Jingya, put me down," Ye Zi said to Rong Jingya, who was carrying her.

The one carrying her felt her body lighten, as Ye Zi gracefully descended to the ground, like a butterfly.

"Before nuclear bombs, we are still just fragile humans..." Rong Jingya said with lingering fear.

"He was strangely hinting at it all morning; it must have been about this," Ye Zi said, tidying her hair slightly, as she mentioned Bai Mo's premonition today.

"He's still in Rome. He should be fine, right?"

"He's the least likely among us to be in trouble," Ye Zi responded nonchalantly.

What was there to worry about regarding the safety of a prophet?

It seemed that not only Bai Mo harbored ulterior motives, but Zhao Jia Sen also had some different ideas, as he didn't immediately announce the discovery that high-energy radiation could be converted into Spirit Qi in a Spirit Qi environment.

So, almost everyone still believed that even with the greatly improved physical constitution of Ability Users, being in a strong radiation environment was absolutely harmful and offered no benefit.

"Why do you say Captain Bai is the least likely to be in trouble?" Rong Jingya asked, somewhat confused.

"A being like a prophet—unless he actively sought death, otherwise, who could kill him?" Ye Zi felt as if the other party had been dazed by the explosion. "Otherwise, how could she not have thought of such a simple thing?"

"Moreover, even setting aside the matter of premonition, just based on our speed, as long as the nuclear bomb didn't detonate at ground zero, the possibility of escaping is very high..."

Ye Zi calculated, based on her extreme burst speed of over a hundred meters per second, that as long as she had ten seconds of reaction time, she was confident she could escape the nuclear bomb's lethal radius.

She felt that Bai Mo's speed would certainly not be inferior to her own; as long as he didn't actively seek death by heading towards the nuclear explosion's center, escaping with minor injuries wouldn't be too difficult.

"First, let's find them and rendezvous. I need to call headquarters now to report," Ye Zi said, taking out the satellite phone from her small bag.

"Beep... beep... beep..." The call went unanswered.

"What's going on? How could the operator for a dedicated satellite line be absent? Could something have happened domestically as well?"

After Ye Zi connected this nuclear attack with the situation here, she realized things seemed to have become even more troublesome.

It was already perplexing; how could there suddenly be a nuclear bomb and a tsunami out of nowhere? And how did the nuclear bomb bypass all interception systems and directly hit a nation's capital?

A whole host of questions plagued Ye Zi, but her top priority was still to rendezvous with the main group.

"Sister Ye, what's wrong?"

"It's highly possible something has gone wrong domestically as well. I'll try contacting them again later to check the situation. Which way should we go?"

"This way," Rong Jingya said, pointing north.

Inside Rome.

"Aren't you afraid of how I look?" Austin asked, after largely overcoming her fear of Bai Mo, starting to ask strange questions again.

"Aren't they all just chunks of flesh? What's there to be afraid of?" Bai Mo nonchalantly spoke his inner thoughts.

He clearly couldn't understand the psychology of someone who valued their appearance no less than their life.

Austin's meaning was completely different from what Bai Mo understood. She wanted to know if her appearance was considered disgusting by others; however, what Bai Mo's eyes saw was entirely different from what ordinary people saw, and he didn't care about appearances at all.

Half an hour later.

"It's done," Bai Mo said blandly.

As the power in his hands grew stronger and stronger, Bai Mo increasingly ceased to consider the feelings of those too far removed from him, because their levels of thought were too disparate.

Without any thought of explaining anything to the other party, he silently immersed himself in his own world.

There were originally a few survivors in this area, but they didn't have Austin's luck, and in the process of mutation, they all turned into rampaging zombies, having lost their minds.

They instinctively sensed the presence of Bai Mo and Austin, and without hesitation, charged towards the two. But without exception, they all became readily available experimental materials.

More mutated organs floated in the air, making the surroundings look even more like hell.

Austin also sat to the side, slowly trying to adapt to her surging power. She discovered for the first time that she could actually carry hundreds of pounds of objects around.

As a fan of American comics, Austin had always fantasized about awakening abilities one day, to be able to fly through the sky and burrow through the earth like the heroes in comics, and uphold her justice.

Unfortunately, she never had the chance before; she hadn't awakened her own abilities and could only watch those lucky ones enviously.

After suddenly gaining power, she immediately excitedly carried the large, ubiquitous stones from the ruins of Rome, walking back and forth, wielding her brand-new strength.

However, when she passed by a broken mirror and saw her current appearance, her excitement vanished in an instant, replaced by a deep sense of loss.

"I generally understand your situation; it will likely take half a month to recover. By the way, have you heard of the book 'Martial Edict'?" Bai Mo's words broke Austin's sense of loss.

"Really? It can really recover?" Austin's focus was clearly on the former, automatically ignoring Bai Mo's latter question.

"Don't just get excited. Answer me: have you heard of 'Martial Edict'?" Bai Mo asked again impatiently.

"Of course. Chapters of this book are circulating everywhere on the Internet; everyone calls it 'a miraculous cultivation method from the East'. Many people in America are practicing according to the methods in it, but perhaps due to translation quality, not everyone can fully understand the content, so only a portion of people have seen results."

"The refinement of your muscles can be accelerated by practicing 'Martial Edict'. One of the purposes of 'Martial Edict' is to allow practitioners to complete the Spirit Energy conversion of their muscles," Bai Mo explained to Austin.

"Just by cultivating this Eastern art, I can return to my original state?" Austin asked excitedly.

"Theoretically, there shouldn't be an issue. After all, your swollen muscles have only partially undergone Spirit Energy conversion; after completing the Spirit Energy conversion of all your muscles through 'Martial Edict' cultivation, you should be able to return to your original state."

"Then, how long will it take for me to return to my original state?"

"In other places, it would take you at least three years of cultivation to return to your original state." Bai Mo paused. "However, in Rome, it should be about half a year. Of course, if you dare to gamble again, it might only take three months."

"Gamble? You mean..."

"The closer you go towards the nuclear explosion's center, the higher the radiation, and the more likely you are to turn back into a mindless zombie. However, your cultivation speed will also be faster. I've said all there is to say."
