Chapter 58: Notification

It was fortunate that he had just used a scalpel to excise the piece of flesh to which this fleshy network was attached, depriving it of its energy source for escape and preventing it from leaving his hand. Otherwise, constantly suppressing it with his psionic abilities would have been a laborious task.

Despite racking his brain, Bai Mo could find no solution for this tissue and had no choice but to set it aside for now.

"Perhaps I should try crushing it and injecting it into my body, just like with the mutated lysosome last time?"

Ever since Bai Mo tasted the sweetness of success in his battle against the mutated lysosome a few days ago, he would think of similar experiments whenever he had a moment. He had suddenly developed an interest in such risky auto-experiments.

However, he also felt that now was not a good time. He still had to attend the Ability User Conference tomorrow morning.

More importantly, there was still that unknown crisis looming tomorrow. If he were to fall into a coma due to this experiment and lose track of time, it would be troublesome.

So, Bai Mo first placed the reticulated tissue into the miniature cold storage unit that came with his experimental toolkit, then packed all his luggage. He planned to carry his luggage directly to the conference tomorrow, because according to his premonition, Rome was no longer safe. It was better to be prepared; if anything went wrong, he could just grab his things and run.

For the sake of having been teammates for a while, he decided to warn the others.

Yet, due to his apprehension about the unknown danger, he spent the entire night pondering various problems and preparing contingency plans for possible events. However, losing one night's sleep wouldn't have much impact on him; his body could fully endure it and wouldn't affect his performance the next day.

At a quarter past seven the next morning, Bai Mo, having stayed up all night, arrived at Ye Zi's room and rang the doorbell.

"Ding-dong."

"Who is it?"

"Bai Mo."

"Is something wrong?" Woken by the sound, Ye Zi's tone held a hint of impatience.

"Urgent matter."

In Bai Mo's Divine Sense, the ice beauty Ye Zi seemed to be lying in bed wearing only thin pajamas, but he felt no allure whatsoever. This was because the spectrum of light perceivable by his Divine Sense had far surpassed what his original physical eyes could see.

Although he couldn't penetrate her Life Field to see her internal condition, the large amounts of invisible thermal radiation emanating from Ye Zi's body were clearly observed by his Divine Sense. She resembled a humanoid figure enveloped by a sphere of light.

It wasn't just Ye Zi; one could say that after his Divine Sense organ merged with his Life Field, Bai Mo's visible light spectrum drastically increased, and the entire world in his eyes became a kaleidoscope of dazzling and bizarre colors, fantastical and strange. Every person and every object he perceived emanated an indescribable light. These originally invisible thermal radiations completely distorted everything he had originally perceived, or rather, restored the true nature of everything.

He had been diligently adapting to these new changes in his perception over the past few days, with no mind to notice whether the person before him was alluring or not.

The door opened from within, and Ye Zi, with a coat draped over her pajamas, appeared before Bai Mo.

"Come in. I hope you truly have something urgent." Ye Zi didn't need to finish her sentence, but the implied threat was clear.

"Captain Ye, the situation is like this. Last night, I sensed that something would happen today that could threaten my own safety. So, late last night, I went out and took a stroll through the city of Rome. As it happened, I discovered a certain..."

Bai Mo roughly explained the course of events to Ye Zi, naturally concealing the detailed process of how he used his abilities.

"So, you were that murderer?" Ye Zi asked.

"What do you mean?"

"Late last night, Rome's special police unit discovered the remains of the freak you killed deep in an alley. Their ability user investigation determined that the suspected perpetrator was an Asian ability user in white clothes. They urgently notified our few Asian team leaders to keep an eye out for relevant individuals, but I never thought it would be you."

"If they could identify him as Asian, they should also know that the fellow, who was neither truly alive nor dead, was controlled. Didn't they mention that in their notification to you?"

"No, but they also didn't use the word 'arrest.' They merely advised the individual concerned, meaning you, to assist with the investigation. Perhaps they also understood that fact. So, what do you plan to do?"

"I hate trouble," Bai Mo said.

"So you intend to...?"

"Don't be nervous, I'm not going to silence you. There's no point in opposing the local police in a foreign land."

"According to my premonition and deduction, something that could threaten my life will arrive in Rome around noon today. I don't know what it is, but I estimate that after whatever threatens my safety reaches Rome, there won't be much left of Rome itself." Bai Mo continued to speak casually, "If they still have the leisure to bother me after the incident, then I can assist with the investigation."

"So you came so early to tell me that Rome isn't safe and that I should leave quickly?"

"Initially, I planned to notify you at dawn, but after some consideration, I thought coming in the morning would be more appropriate."

"Why only notify me?"

"Because you have the highest prestige in the team. If I can convince you, I won't have to bother explaining it to everyone else, one by one. I told you, I hate trouble."

"Didn't you ever think why I should believe a deduction and feeling that completely lacks concrete evidence?!" Ye Zi said, frowning.

"Believe it or not, as you wish. What do the lives and deaths of others have to do with me? If you have no further questions, I'll take my leave." Bai Mo shrugged.

"Wait, are you planning to leave the team and depart Rome right now?"

"No, I'll stay in Rome and personally see what exactly it is that can threaten me. If I have to hide from even this groundless feeling of danger, then what's the point of cultivating? I might as well dig a hole and hide for a few hundred years."

"So what exactly did you mean by what you just said?!"

"Nothing much. It's just to give you a heads-up, so you won't be completely stunned when the time comes." Bai Mo said dismissively.

"I'll go back and pack my luggage, Captain Ye can do as she pleases." He found a casual excuse to leave.

Just as Bai Mo came out of his room, Rong Jingya, who was in the adjacent room, also came out for breakfast.

"Morning, Captain Bai." Rong Jingya, knowing who lived next door, greeted him as if nothing unusual had happened.

"Morning."

Hearing the two outside greeting each other, Ye Zi's heart sank. Hiding in her room, she realized that going out to explain wouldn't work, and not going out to explain wouldn't work either, so she simply pretended not to hear.
