Chapter 546: Seeing a Ghost
"To transform into a planetary consciousness, using a planet as one's body, or even to advance further and convert a star like the Sun into one's vessel of existence.
If one could reach such a stage, every move would be an act of true heavenly might.
Even a slight shift in the Sun's direct angle has brought about the seasonal changes of spring, summer, autumn, and winter on Earth. If the Sun were a living being capable of actively altering its distance from Earth, everything would likely end instantly.
However, there are several orders of magnitude separating planets and stars; to complete such an accumulation would require an immensely long time."
Bai Mo gazed afar at the boundless starry sky above, and couldn't help but once again feel the despairing vastness of the universe.
He, who enveloped the entire Earth, was already an utterly unconquerable monster in the eyes of the Moon's human inhabitants. Yet, compared to the colossal fiery sphere at the center of the solar system, Earth, with only one ten-thousandth of its mass, remained as minuscule as a speck of dust.
And the solar system itself was but one-hundred-millionth of the vast Milky Way.
Beyond the Milky Way, there were countless other galaxies.
...
The Earth Immortal continues to possess civilizations, becoming the spirit behind them, eventually transforming into a civilization meme, akin to an information life-form." He reined in his emotions, redirecting his attention to the ongoing deduction of the Earth Immortal's future development path.
"This path is similar to the Divine Path, which gathers the strength of the masses to achieve one's own self-perfection.
However, the Divine Path congregates the spiritual power of faithful beings, turning the illusory into reality, while the Earth Immortal merely seeks a life vessel to bear their own existence."
However, Bai Mo speculated that if Yu Queyue's method became more widely known, intelligent life might become a rare resource fiercely contended for.
As long as one used the Earth Immortal method to strip civilizations of their right to choose their own future, devouring their future and transforming it into a part of oneself, there would be a chance to bypass the perilous and woefully low-success Celestial Immortal advancement hurdle, ascending to a seventh-stage life-form in a single leap.
Yet, after some research, Bai Mo discovered that anyone wishing to advance through this method must choose the civilization to be integrated with extreme caution.
If the mainstream values of a civilization clashed with the Earth Immortal's own worldview, it would result in an extremely severe rejection reaction. In minor cases, it could lead to mental derangement and qi deviation; in severe cases, outright cognitive collapse, leading to death and the dissipation of their Dao.
For example, a cultivator inherently ingrained with male chauvinistic ideals, descending into a society where feminism reigned supreme... there would only be a few possible outcomes:
Either the entire civilization would be brainwashed, its societal cognition completely altered, and rebuilt into a male-dominated society.
Or the cultivator themselves would be brainwashed, their gender identity warped, and from then on, only appear in female attire.
Those with weaker wills would not only fail to assimilate the civilization but would also be counter-killed by the invisible force of the civilization's collective consciousness, their minds directly collapsing and self-destructing, scattering fragments of their thought information everywhere and giving rise to a large number of opportunist geniuses.
A fortunate few might escape failure completely unscathed, but most would still suffer severe damage to their vital essence.
...
"Mister, you dropped something." A child’s voice, without any warning, rang out behind Yu Queyue and Hu Lai.
"How is that possible?!" As a Fourth Tier powerhouse, he could even feel a single hair falling during his metabolism; there was absolutely no way he wouldn't notice if he had dropped something.
"I just saw it, this thing fell out of your pocket." The child held a strange wooden box in his right hand, adorned with unfamiliar patterns.
"This isn’t mine," Yu Queyue immediately denied.
"It is yours." The child displayed a meaningful smile.
A mysterious child, holding an unfamiliar and peculiar wooden box, appearing in such a sensitive location – both of them had already sensed that something was amiss.
"That child’s feet aren’t touching the ground; there’s about two millimeters of space between his soles and the pavement," Hu Lai suddenly realized.
"What ghost dares to appear here?"
In the majestic Hanluo City, let alone ghosts, even people didn't dare act presumptuously. By all accounts, no supernatural occurrences should be possible here.
As for the existence of ghosts themselves, neither of them felt any fear, because as far back as the Earth era, they had collaborated to clear out many haunted places that had become increasingly terrifying after the appearance of spirit qi.
Haunted houses, cursed residences, Secret Realms – in the eyes of greedy adventurers whose power and ambition had expanded infinitely, they all became treasure troves for harvesting special resources.
No matter how ferocious the ghostly entity, before the demon of greed, which symbolized original sin, they could only retreat a great distance.
...
Yu Queyue pondered for a moment, then decided to take the wooden box from the child’s hand.
"Whoosh..." A chill wind swept by, leaving only the antique box before them. The child holding the box seemed to have vanished as if he had never been there.
After Yu Queyue took the wooden box, he examined it carefully.
"Come on, let’s leave Hanluo City!" After apparently confirming something, his expression changed, and he immediately pulled Hu Lai, preparing to depart.
"Didn’t you just say your fortuitous encounter was here? How is it invalid so quickly?" The burly man in the cloak’s mind didn't process it for a moment, and he remained rooted to the spot.
"We’ll talk outside." The little boy-like Yu Queyue forcefully tugged at Hu Lai, who was nearly three times his size, looking no different from a son pestering his dad for a toy.
"So mysterious." Hu Lai didn't understand what strange maneuver his friend had just pulled, but from the almost uncontrollable glint in his eyes, he knew that whatever he said now would surely fall on deaf ears.
...
The two ran and walked out of the city, leaving the domain of the Land of White, and continuously flew for over a hundred kilometers until they arrived at an inconspicuous bar.
This bar was named Yueque Wutong Bar. It was originally a club Lu Yuesheng had opened in another city specifically for entertaining guests.
After she officially joined the Ark faction, the club naturally became one of the strongholds left by the Transmigrators in the Manghuang Realm, providing a place for all Transmigrators to exchange resources and relax.
"Beautiful lady, a vodka!!!" After entering the bar, Yu Queyue shouted this phrase to the bartender with all his might.
Along the way, in order to suppress his inner excitement, he had exhausted all his physical strength, leaving him sprawled motionless on the sofa now.
"Can you explain it to me now?" A bewildered Hu Lai was impatient to satisfy his curiosity.
"I actually succeeded in tricking that person." Yu Queyue thought for half a minute before using an encrypted mental wave, from within their organization's network, to tell Hu Lai what he had done.
Ordinary mental waves could be intercepted if someone a tier higher than the conversing parties was present. However, encrypted mental waves were extremely difficult for outsiders without a private key to decipher.
The only drawback was that encryption and decryption were quite troublesome; saying a single sentence would take at least ten to twenty seconds of stuttering, so it was rarely done on ordinary days.
"???".
