Chapter 454: Fate
"There's no technique whatsoever; this is simply a tremendous waste of psionic energy." Seres couldn't help but form this thought as it watched the luminous figure casually unleash its psionic power.
As a mutated brain bug species within the Zerg collective, its specialized field was also psionic energy. Thus, it naturally compared the techniques it had mastered with those displayed by its enemy.
"It's simply like a primitive creature wielding a cannon as a hammer to attack its opponent!"
Regardless, it was still the spiritual leader of the entire Sea Race. Even facing this terrifying existence that had cleaved the sea apart, Seres maintained sufficient composure to mock the encroaching enemy.
If it succumbed to fear before the battle even began, then there would be no need to fight at all. To deal with this unprecedented madman, Seres had made extensive preparations.
"It's merely a difference in scale. The energy a human expends each minute to maintain body temperature might be more than an ant uses in its entire life, yet in human eyes, that's just instinct."
The luminous figure, by now expanded to several thousand meters tall, violently pushed the seawater aside, creating a chasm nearly ten thousand meters wide, a vacuum in the heart of the ocean.
Ocean currents and atmospheric circulations were brutally distorted. Super typhoons, once seen only once every three to five years and capable of rare devastation upon landfall, were now forming on both sides of the chasm as if they were free for the taking.
The formed hurricanes were constantly disrupted by newly generated ones, then mutually eroding and merging, ultimately transforming into an unprecedentedly bloated mass of wind.
"You're so certain you can crush us?!" Seres had its own trump card and still appeared quite confident at this moment.
Bai Mo said nothing, using action to replace a verbal answer, and slapped a palm towards the center of the undersea palace city, precisely where Seres was located.
The seemingly clumsy giant luminous figure was, in reality, terrifyingly swift. A body constructed from various energies simply didn't possess the concept of massive inertia.
As dazzling as the aurora, a palm structured from an electromagnetic storm, in less than half a second, had already pressed down upon the grand protective array of Kethuri Palace City's defenses.
The Sea Race members responsible for controlling the array hadn't even had time to report the situation to their superiors when they saw countless cracks spiderweb across the array's surface, then were injured by the backlash.
"Two seconds, that's enough." Seres calculated the remaining time through its psionic perception.
"You're not the only one who knows how to construct a collective network." It instantly crushed the psionic gem before it, activating its trump card. "We're the true experts!"
A unique psionic wave instantly spread throughout the entire world.
...
"What's going on? It seems someone is trying to seize control of my body?" Ling Tian, currently enjoying life in the United States, suddenly detected something amiss. An unknown force within him was attempting to remotely control his body.
When the original Hua-Ya Federation was enveloped in white terror, he, as a high-ranking official of the Hua-Ya Federation and also a subconscious Zerg spy, had received a mysterious premonition, leaving the Federation half a day in advance.
This was naturally Seres's doing.
"I am the master of the Zerg swarm! To try and seize control of my body is tantamount to pitting your total psionic energy against all the Zerg under my command. Whoever you are, you are destined to lose!" He lightly swirled the wine in his goblet, thinking confidently.
But before he could even set down the wine glass, the unexpected happened!
"What's going on!" Ling Tian frantically discovered that events seemed to be developing incorrectly. The Zerg army, which had always been so reliable, had at this moment turned against him, moving to devour his will instead!
Without the massive psionic energy bonus from the network, he, a guy who had purely reached the Five Tiers by consuming optimization fluids and various heavenly and earthly treasures, instantly became one of the weakest among those at the Five Tiers.
"I won't accept this!" After a scream, Ling Tian's consciousness gradually sank into darkness, and the wine glass in his hand fell to the ground with a clatter.
The girl who had been accompanying him nearby was terrified and beside herself when she saw this. She quickly pushed away the man who was leaning on her, suddenly rigid like a corpse.
"Why, this was all a deception..." In the final moment before his death, Ling Tian, by burning all his Five-Tier psionic energy, caught a glimpse of the truth behind the curtain.
It turned out his fortuitous encounter all those years ago—the Zerg base he'd found on the desolate island, and the Zerg troops under his command—had all been a meticulously crafted setup by someone...
Discovering that all his efforts were worthless, he was utterly disheartened and wanted to cry at that moment, but found that he couldn't even control the muscles around his eyes.
"My fate is mine! Not yours!"
Although Ling Tian never saw the true identity of the mastermind in the end, in his rage, he didn't ponder much further. He directly chose to detonate the only thing he could still control—his soul. This was his final act of defiance against the mastermind.
"Bang!"
In an instant, Ling Tian's head exploded, splattering red and white matter all over the bikini-clad girl, nearly scaring her into wetting herself.
After a long moment, the girl named An Na instinctively licked her suddenly dry lips, tasting a slightly sweet, bloody liquid.
Then, she immediately realized what she had just swallowed!
What she had consumed made her feel utterly disgusted and nauseous; she wished she could get her stomach pumped right then, but the next moment, she thought of more.
How should she handle this man's death? He was, after all, a Five-Tier big shot, entangled with vast wealth and interests.
Now that he had died silently in this resort villa, if someone were to discover it, she, the sole eyewitness, would surely be in big trouble.
"In the eyes of those big shots, I'm just a tiny ant; my life or death is completely irrelevant. Even a dead Ling Tian is far more important than me. Wait, a dead Ling Tian..."
While An Na was lost in wild thoughts, Seres, deep in the Pacific Ocean, also began to rely on the enhancement of the Zerg network, using its own psionic energy to strenuously resist the massive hand composed entirely of electromagnetic storms.
As for the dead Ling Tian, he wasn't worth a second glance. From the perspective of the entire Zerg network, losing him was absolutely no big deal.
Seres had already achieved its ultimate goal in cultivating him years ago; letting him live on was merely to continue using him as an intelligence gatherer among human high-ranking officials.
Gone, then gone.
The terrifying enemy before it was the only thing that needed attention now.
"Aren't you going to continue?" Bai Mo calmly asked, looking at Seres, now enhanced by the Zerg network.
