Chapter 395: The Setup

"An era? Perhaps so." Bai Mo didn't refute that, as he himself was one of those who had rapidly risen in this new era. However, he never believed he needed to represent anyone's interests.

"Those who defy the will of the people are destined to be disgraced, their reputations ruined, and their bones left to bleach in the wilderness."

"The dishes are all served." After listening, he gave a noncommittal response, instead speaking to the air, an abrupt and puzzling statement.

"What nonsense, are you treating us all as dishes? Hahahahaha..."

"No need to treat you as such, you already are." Bai Mo shrugged.

"Such arrogan— What's happening!!!" Beidien, who had been laughing uproariously just moments before, was utterly bewildered by the sudden turn of events.

Light! Light! Light! Purple light was everywhere!

From every corner of his body, an uncontrollable, continuous stream of purple light erupted. Beidien instinctively knew, without needing to think, that this light was absolutely nothing good.

"Get out of me!" he roared hoarsely, but found he couldn't muster even a shred of strength in his body.

His consciousness began to blur. He had to exert all his might just to concentrate a sliver of his mind, and so could only let the purple light continuously spread outward.

"The front lines are fighting fiercely? Why is our power being consumed so rapidly?" Many who had entered the Spirit Energy Resonance Network began to murmur to themselves at this moment.

"What's happening?"

At the same time, red light also surged from everyone who had decided to resist to the end. Every wisp of red light flowed along the Spirit Energy Resonance Network of the Jingshi Shengmie Jinlian, gathering entirely into its lotus pod.

"Red light! That monster isn't dead!"

"They're all liars! It's bad enough the hero didn't die, but even the demon king is still alive!"

The Crimson World Uprising from over a year ago had clearly left an indelible mark on everyone's memories. The moment the red light appeared, someone immediately shouted loudly.

From the mysteriously emerging Spirit Devourer virus to the frenzied riots on the outbreak day, people, unaware that there were actually two masterminds behind it all, had placed all their hatred onto the Disciple of the Crimson World.

This upheaval had caused untold casualties worldwide and had driven the superhuman and ordinary human classes into complete opposition. A mere year was far from enough to heal the wounds.

Thus, upon seeing the red light, everyone grew furious.

"You really know how to draw hatred." Bai Mo remarked, looking at the Jingshi Shengmie Jinlian, now enveloped in three colors of light.

"Hatred and oppression are the most efficient fuel for the fires of resistance," the Disciple of the Crimson World replied, sounding thoroughly pleased.

The resistance of tens of millions of people against totalitarianism was, to its peculiar informational lifeform, the most exquisite sustenance.

"After this, you will replace me, becoming the most hated existence in this nation." The Disciple of the Crimson World nonchalantly stated a terrifying truth, "We hadn't expected you to change your perception so quickly. Perhaps the day you truly join our circle isn't far off."

"What exactly are you?" Bai Mo suddenly asked.

Whether it was the unexplained imparting of vast insights into his hands, or the occasional strange remarks, everything made him feel that the eerie nature of these three unknown entities might exceed his imagination.

"You'll know once you completely absorb that orb of light." The Disciple of the Crimson World's attitude was remarkably calm, stating its intentions with extreme directness.

"If you won't say, then don't." Bai Mo hadn't expected to uncover anything with a casual question, and even Skynet was powerless against the secrets they were determined to keep.

"As for cruelty... I had no intention of killing them, so how can it be cruel?"

"True, you consider killing a waste."

Their conversation abruptly ceased.

"The Crimson World seeks resistance, Gaia seeks destiny, but what do *you* seek?" Bai Mo looked at the yellow light on the lotus petals. Unfortunately, the other party remained silent, only its soft glow indicating its presence.

"You... you were all in this together! There was no mutual destruction at all, it was all an act!" Beidien, who had just barely snatched back control of his body for a few seconds, tried every possible means to disseminate this earth-shattering news.

"If we truly were in this together, there wouldn't be any role for you, the new Destiny Protagonists." Bai Mo heavily emphasized the words "Destiny Protagonists."

He wasn't worried about Beidien and his subordinates finding a way to expose that the Jingshi Shengmie Jinlian was, in fact, a trap. There were several layers of information blockade barriers, both internal and external, ensuring not a single bit of information could escape.

Beidien no longer responded to Bai Mo's words, as his control had once again been seized by Gaia.

Whether it was satellites or radar, under the influence of Bai Mo's illusory Spirit Arts and information interference, they all showed that a normal, fierce battle was underway, with the Jingshi Shengmie Jinlian holding a significant advantage. From the perspective of others, nothing strange appeared to be happening.

"Wha-wha... what's going on?! What's happening with the Golden Lotus on the front lines? My power is almost drained! Why isn't it stopping! Quickly, switch people out!"

"I'm going to kill that alien and avenge my son! Let me out quickly!"

"Beidien, what are you doing! Let us out quickly!"

...

Soon, those who had entered the Spirit Energy Resonance Network discovered that they had, in fact, boarded a pirate ship from which they couldn't disembark. The power within their bodies was unilaterally, desperately flowing towards the Jingshi Shengmie Jinlian, with no sign of stopping.

It was only then that the tens of millions of opponents realized they had all stepped into a meticulously laid trap.

Whether they were reserve personnel or the first batch of power-sharers who had already connected to the Resonance Network, as long as they had raised their right hand at that time, not a single one could escape now.

"The Spirit Energy surge is flowing back!" A superhuman sensitive to Spirit Energy flow shouted in a tone of shock.

Some of those who were almost drained breathed a sigh of relief upon hearing about the Spirit Energy flowing back, then their expressions turned even more sinister: "What?! A Spirit Energy surge?!"

While it would naturally be a good thing for it to return slowly like a trickling stream, it was an entirely different matter if it surged back like a tsunami.

Under "Beidien's" control, this massive Spirit Energy surge, absorbed from a hundred thousand people, was instantly returned through the Resonance Network. Since no substantive battle had actually occurred, almost as much returned as had been taken, apart from transmission losses.

"Save me! I'm melting! Aaaah!" Under conscious guidance, the Spirit Energy tide, originally from the bodies of a hundred thousand people, first rushed towards the weakest ten thousand. A Spirit Energy impact ten times their entire bodily strength completely dissolved their bodies within a few seconds.
