Chapter 389: Rouge
"Someone's coming." Just as Bai Mo was preparing to open a passage from the Nine Netherworlds to the present world, he suddenly sensed someone frantically flying towards Tianhai.
Yu Xi, whose form could barely be discerned as humanoid, directly twisted her mimetic neck 180 degrees to look behind her; she found this more convenient than turning her entire body. Through the unique senses of a spirit body, she also detected that a living person was apparently rushing in their direction. This puzzled her; normal people wouldn't come to such an ominous place, a gathering ground for ghosts, and the other party was clearly carrying some strange equipment.
Two minutes later, a girl in red appeared on the horizon. Though her appearance was somewhat diminished by her haste, the faint beauty she possessed when properly arrayed could still be glimpsed between her brows. Most striking of all, she was carrying a large box, its length even exceeding her own height by a significant margin. Even in her desperate hurry, neglecting her appearance, she refused to put down this heavy burden.
The box's material was quite strange; it seemed neither metal nor wood, and cold air periodically emanated from it, making it somewhat resemble a freezer. However, the densely packed runes covering its surface, enough to trigger trypophobia, plainly indicated that it was no ordinary freezer.
The young girl stopped before Bai Mo.
Even though her physical strength was clearly overdrawn from the long journey, she still handled the box on her back with the gentlest movements, as if it were a rare treasure, lowering it to the ground. "Thud!" But no matter how careful her movements, the moment the exceedingly heavy box touched the ground, it still emitted a muffled thud, and a flicker of heartache crossed the young girl's eyes.
"You're seeking my help?" As soon as Bai Mo had detected the girl's presence, he recognized her: it was Xiao Xun, whom he had saved once more than ten years ago. "Doctor Dongfang said that only you might be able to save Xiao Yan. I've brought him here. Please..." Xiao Xun, her eyes slightly red-rimmed, looked at Bai Mo with a tear-streaked expression. However, having been in a high and mighty position for many years, Xiao Xun's words when pleading for help were inevitably a bit stiff. She immediately got straight to the point, without a trace of polite pleasantries, and her words also revealed a flustered helplessness.
Ever since she learned of Xiao Yan's incident on the Donghai battlefield, as his older sister, she had abandoned everything, flying with only a pile of cash to the frontline command hospital. Although he was a convict, as a half-step Five Tiers combatant, Xiao Yan still enjoyed extremely high treatment on the naval defense front. Even after he was injured and fell into a coma, Doctor Dongfang Sa, the renowned genius doctor in the upper circles, nicknamed "Soul Chaser of the Netherworld," became his attending physician. However, after an examination, it was discovered that the only thing he could do was heal the external injuries the other party had sustained. As for what was happening internally, Dongfang Sa could only relay the full facts to the family, leaving the decision to her.
"Doctor Dongfang also said that Xiao Yan was invaded by the remnant soul inside this object, and another evil will wants to seize his body." Xiao Xun took out the Blue Crystal that Xiao Yan had always held onto from her bosom. After Bai Mo saw the familiar Blue Crystal, he casually unsealed the runes on the box and opened the lid. Sure enough, the large box was a sealed coffin, and lying inside was the unconscious Xiao Yan. From the outside, it could be seen that most of his body was already covered in a profound blue hue. Once the blue completed its encirclement, it would be the day the body-snatching and rebirth succeeded. After a casual glance, he closed the sealed coffin and reapplied the intricate seals, slowing down the body-snatching progress to the greatest extent possible.
Upon hearing this, the expression on Xiao Xun's face instantly froze. She had just assumed that since Bai Mo had listened intently to her words and even proactively examined her brother's condition, he was undoubtedly a kind-hearted person willing to help them. The atmosphere grew awkward for a moment. As for Yu Xi, who was watching from the side, seeing such a divine twist, she was nearly laughing out loud, as if wishing for chaos in the world.
"Are you willing to lose your body?" Bai Mo then asked an even more startling question.
"Lose... body?" Her brain, already half-crashed at this point, only registered those two words.
After another round of silence, Xiao Xun gathered her courage, closed her eyes as if resigned to her fate, and then nodded, her entire body slumping towards the luminous figure before her as if deflated. She hadn't expected that her long journey to find help would lead her to a pervert taking advantage of her desperation. But for the sake of the only remaining kin in this world, she still chose to yield.
"She seems to have misunderstood something..." Bai Mo read strange emotional light from Xiao Xun, then ignored the girl who was about to collapse towards him. After seeing her nod, he once again opened the sealed coffin, holding the Blue Crystal he had obtained from Xiao Xun in his right hand, and softly greeted it.
"We meet again."
"How is it you again! You're truly a persistent vengeful spirit!" A mental wave, laden with fury, erupted from the blue light surrounding Xiao Yan's body, transmitting itself to everyone present. "Whether I persist or not isn't an issue for me," Bai Mo replied indifferently.
The Blue Crystal before them was precisely a remnant corner of Ramdo's godhead after its self-detonation. He originally had no intention of seizing a body, but alas, Xiao Yan, who insanely pursued invincibility among peers, had a body simply too tempting in its power. And conveniently, his realm wasn't high, still at the peak of the Unmelting Realm. Ramdo boasted that even he couldn't achieve such perfection if he started over, and thus the thought of body-snatching arose. Meanwhile, Xiao Xun, who had originally been falling towards Bai Mo, only realized she was falling into empty air at the last moment before losing her balance entirely, barely managing to regain her footing.
Recalling Bai Mo's words from just now, she suddenly felt as if she had misunderstood something...
"Open." Bai Mo had no intention of reminiscing with Ramdo further. Instead, he continued with his original task, connecting the Nine Netherworlds with the real world.
"So, you're willing to help me, right?" Xiao Xun, bewildered by the convoluted turn of events, no longer cared what her own thoughts were. What she needed to confirm now was his intention. And then Bai Mo ignored her...
Terrifying pressure soon began to emanate from all corners of the Tianhai ruins. The sky, already dim and murky under the shroud, grew even darker. Aside from the absence of stars and moon, it was almost indistinguishable from true night. The half-illusory, half-real Nine Netherworlds descended into reality, causing countless low-level spirits hiding beneath the shroud of deathly aura to instinctively tremble. They feared the Nine Netherworlds, yet paradoxically, an invisible longing welled up within them, a desire to enter this new world.
