Chapter 108: The Birth of a Devil

"The privileged class certainly works efficiently. I should have just air-freighted myself back too," Bai Mo mused as he returned home to find that everything he had sent from Tiannan under the name of the Spirit Energy Research Institute had already been moved to his doorstep. Several people were waiting outside for his signature.

In high spirits, he slipped two hundred yuan to each of the receiving personnel, who had likely been waiting for him for some time.

"Sir, do you need help moving them inside?" With tips equivalent to a day's income, their smiles were naturally as bright as could be.

Bai Mo shook his head, opened the door, and effortlessly moved several tons of packages into the room, leaving the porters outside dumbfounded.

Two hours later, the items he had brought back were sorted and placed in the new house, transforming the entire place into a small laboratory.

The living room? Gone, directly converted into the main laboratory, since no one ever visited anyway.

The kitchen? Gone, directly converted into the specimen room, since he didn't need to eat anyway.

All that remained were the bedroom, which was expected to be piled high with books, and the bathroom—the standard setup for a reclusive lab dweller.

After tidying up, he began preparing the materials needed for his afternoon meeting.

"The proposal, the samples, and the external hard drive—I'll bring them all."

At three fifty in the afternoon, Bai Mo appeared at the outer gate of the new government building, where a man was already waiting for him.

"Are you Mr. Bai?" the man in the suit asked.

"Yes. You're Council Member Liu's secretary?"

"That's right, my surname is Hu, Hu Feng."

Hu Feng, with a professional demeanor, led Bai Mo to the security checkpoint. The security personnel, recognizing Hu Feng, chatted briefly before routinely completing the security check.

Bai Mo followed Hu Feng deeper inside, neither speaking. The atmosphere became a little awkward for a moment.

However, Hu Feng knew from his reports that the person behind him preferred solitude, so being skilled at dealing with all sorts of people, he didn't try to strike up a conversation, maintaining his silence.

"One, two, three, four, five, six. Just from my divine sense, I can detect six soldiers with Life Fields. The spirit qi concentration has clearly risen a great deal since the nuclear explosion."

"Given Huaxia's population base, it's normal to have this many ability users. After all, before the brain's spiritualization, it's all passive evolution. To put it bluntly, it's a stage that can be reached just by grinding seniority."

At this point, in Bai Mo's view, all stages before the brain's spiritualization were passive evolution, or in some sense, "growth." The only difference between people was the amount of time required for this "growth."

"An ability user soldier every ten meters or so, a government that commands over two hundred thousand ability user troops is certainly generous. How long can the state control this constantly skyrocketing combat power?"

As he walked, Bai Mo also gathered information for analysis. While it might not always be useful, scanning everywhere with his divine sense had become a habit.

"Mr. Bai, the reception room is just ahead."

When they reached the entrance of the reception room, the security guards stationed there performed another infrared scan. However, they strangely found that the infrared detection device suddenly stopped responding.

"This isn't right. Even with interference, it shouldn't have no reaction at all," the guard muttered to himself, still fumbling with the detector.

"It must be my Life Field, unconsciously absorbing the infrared rays from the detector." Seeing the confused guard, Bai Mo quickly came up with an answer.

But he said nothing, simply bypassed the guard who was still trying to stop him, pushed open the door, and walked straight into the reception room. This

left the nearby Hu Feng helpless; he could only signal the guards behind him with his eyes to make an exception for special circumstances.

"Council Member Liu looks even younger."

"Thanks to your spirit qi candles," Liu Zhen replied with a smile.

"That technology isn't very complex. Even if it weren't me, someone else would have thought of it soon enough. I just got lucky," Bai Mo said, in a sense, speaking the truth.

"Young man, keep up the good work!"

"There are three main matters," he said, cutting straight to the point without further pleasantries with the energetic old man before him.

Hu Feng, acting as confidential secretary, also pulled out his notebook, ready to begin taking notes.

"The first matter concerns the sample I gave you a few days ago. Based on my tests, the primary use of this sample is rapid healing, but it also has certain benefits for the body. What are your thoughts?"

"After consuming that sample, some old ailments showed signs of improvement."

"That's good. I've found a lead for the preliminary mass production of this substance from the Blood Clan. Now, I'll briefly outline my plan."

"Understood," Liu Zhen nodded.

"From the Blood Clan's records, I obtained part of their cultivation method. This sample is essentially a part of their bodies. To obtain it, one must work with the Blood Clan.

"But capturing Blood Clan members is too inefficient. As far as I know, there are only a few hundred Blood Clan members globally. Even if they were all killed, it wouldn't meet your needs."

"So, I plan to artificially cultivate vampires."

"Explain."

"Vampires are essentially humans who have cultivated the technique I acquired. Since we now possess the technique, we naturally have the possibility of cultivating vampires."

"I understand your meaning, but why haven't the vampires themselves extensively propagated this technique to gain a larger population?" Liu Zhen quickly spotted the flaw.

"The reason they are called vampires is because cultivating this technique requires consuming large amounts of human blood. From zero, cultivating this 'Undying Body' technique to the grand completion stage, where fresh blood is no longer needed, requires approximately one hundred thousand liters of blood. Based on a normal adult having five liters of blood, that means killing twenty thousand people.

"Under such circumstances, to prevent their racial identity from being exposed, they can only strictly control their numbers. As far as I know, about fifteen Blood Clan members have cultivated to the grand completion stage across their entire race. In other words, over the past three hundred years, they have, through a slow but steady method, likely extracted blood from three hundred thousand people."

"Continue with your plan."

"Originally, I had two ideas. The first was to publicize the cultivation method to the entire society, with the government acting as the material purchaser, using Contribution Points to exchange for the liquid-metalized tissues donated by citizens who cultivate this technique."

"But doing so would harm our reputation, and the blood required for cultivation would inevitably lead to a large number of vicious incidents. So, I abandoned that proposal."

Liu Zhen said nothing, simply nodded gently.

"Therefore, I intend to change this into a secret operation. We can use death row inmates, life prisoners, and other serious offenders from prisons to cultivate this technique, and then regularly 'harvest' them, achieving the effect of cultivation. There's no humanity to discuss with these scumbags anyway; it's better for them to contribute to society this way," Bai Mo said with a smile.

"No wonder you said we needed to talk face-to-face. This issue is indeed a bit sensitive..."

"Council Member Liu, didn't you also have someone test that sample before you personally consumed it?" Bai Mo said. "There always have to be pioneers, right?"

"That's true..." Liu Zhen didn't deny Bai Mo's words. Anyone facing an unfamiliar medicine would try their best to have someone else test it first.

"They are merely societal dregs; let them make their final contribution."

"Feasible." Liu Zhen considered it for a few seconds, then subtly signaled Hu Feng with his eyes that he approved of Bai Mo's plan, instructing him to begin preparations.

Ultimately, it wasn't their own people being sacrificed. Exchanging the lives of a few scumbags for their own lives was clearly a very profitable exchange.

With this plan, the birth of the White Devil was formally declared.
