Chapter 1032: The Weak Devours the Strong

Chapter 1032: The Weak Devours the Strong

Fanyong Island. The island was just as its name suggested.

The "Fan" in its name evoked a fence, while "Yong" suggested uselessness.

This island was situated in an extremely remote sea, with no other islands for hundreds of miles in any direction. But perhaps for this very reason, all the spiritual energy in this stretch of sea converged on Fanyong Island, blessing the large island with favorable weather and immense abundance year after year.

Even without any cultivation, the naturally growing crops were more than enough to keep the island's inhabitants well-fed and carefree.

In fact, the island's several large storehouses were all filled to the brim with grain, and no one was bothered when it slowly rotted away.

And this state of affairs seemed to have persisted ever since the Cong Yun Sea came into being.

This, in turn, led to a peculiar phenomenon: the residents of Fanyong Island had no pressure to survive. Besides eating and sleeping, the one thing they did most was an activity called the Wrestling Match.

The two contestants would fight stripped bare, and the winner would gain the loser's social identity for one month, acquiring the right to dispose of their assets and exercise their authority.

Aside from being forbidden from any act that would harm the island, everything else was permitted.

During this month, the loser could only watch helplessly as the victor became another version of themselves.

Spending all their money, sleeping with their wife...

Of course, if they felt indignant, they could issue another challenge after the month was over.

However, if they were defeated a second time, the duration would double to two months.

And so on.

As the island's sole and most popular form of entertainment, every Wrestling Match drew nearly all of Fanyong Island's inhabitants to watch.

The crowd would jeer and cheer, the competitors would fight with bloodshot eyes, and their families would be fraught with tension.

However, after the most recent match concluded, something happened that left every spectator in disbelief.

Before everyone's eyes, the victor actually transformed into the likeness of the loser!

And the original loser vanished without a trace in plain sight!

What was even more bizarre was that, despite such a strange occurrence, the islanders did not stop holding the Wrestling Matches.

On the contrary, their enthusiasm only grew more fervent.

To defeat someone and truly win everything they are! Could anything be more thrilling?

Initially, people did indeed approach these new matches with that mindset.

But they soon realized something was wrong.

Panic began to spread across Fanyong Island.

Yet the matches did not stop because of it...

Because this game had long since spiraled beyond their control.

Shrouded in this strangeness, Fanyong Island saw a number of matches equal to half its population forced upon its people each day. These were compulsory, ignoring the will of the participants.

The loser would disappear, and the victor would transform into the loser's likeness.

It wasn't just their form and appearance that changed.

Even their physical capabilities would alter accordingly.

Only the inner self remained, with the victor's consciousness in control, having devoured the loser's memories.

Furthermore, during a match, both competitors' minds would be influenced, forcing them to fight with all their might, unable to intentionally concede defeat.

As the days passed and the matches continued relentlessly, the island's population dwindled rapidly.

Some, unable to bear it any longer, chose to end their own lives.

The rest continued to change identities in one match after another.

When Li Fan finally found the sole survivor on Fanyong Island and managed to piece together the sequence of events from over a hundred thousand chaotic memories in the man's mind, he couldn't help but feel a tremor of unease.

The strange, dark power on Fanyong Island had vanished.

And this creature before him, shaped like a cylinder, its facial features so submerged in flesh that only a few vertical lines remained, was the final winner.

This being had likely been the weakest inhabitant on Fanyong Island.

His body was so immense that even extending his arms or moving was a struggle. In every match, he had been unable to even fight back, forced to simply take the blows and lose.

But the will within this body was a collection of over a hundred thousand Fanyong islanders. The dominant consciousness belonged to the absolute victor, the one who had kept winning until the very end.

Each victory seemed to allow him to devour something from his opponent to strengthen himself. Now, his presence alone within the collective will was stronger than all the others combined.

However, after experiencing such a nightmarish ordeal, this ball of flesh was on the verge of collapse.

He sat dazedly on the ground, his face a mask of confusion.

But when Li Fan appeared before him, he instinctively tried to initiate a Wrestling Match.

In that same instant, Li Fan faintly sensed a dark power stir from within the creature's body, like countless invisible tentacles reaching out to cling to him.

But Li Fan merely snorted and vanished from sight.

Leaving the dark tendrils to grasp at empty air.

The great fatty then resumed his dazed stillness.

Li Fan had a premonition that if he hadn't dodged that last challenge...

...then upon winning, he too would have been transformed into this glorious visage before him.

As for whether his cultivation realm would have been preserved, there was no way to know.

"This ability..."

Li Fan was instantly reminded of Mo Rubin's ability to mirror and replace his targets.

However, what had happened on Fanyong Island was clearly weaker and more restrictive than Mo Rubin's power.

But if used properly, it was still an absolutely incredible ability.

Although it seemed this Wrestling Match ultimately caused the victor to continuously degenerate toward weakness...

...that was only in a scenario where the strong defeated the weak.

What if the weak defeated the strong?

Wouldn't that allow someone to achieve a rapid transformation in strength, step by step, in a short amount of time?

Generally speaking, weakness means defeat, and strength means victory.

But for Li Fan, there were countless ways to ensure the weak could triumph over the strong.

At this thought, Li Fan's interest was piqued.

He went out and casually grabbed a Foundation Establishment cultivator. Ignoring the man's terrified gaze, he promptly immobilized him with the Insect Binding technique.

He then tossed him in front of the ball of flesh.

Driven by instinct, the fleshy sphere issued a challenge to the Foundation Establishment cultivator.

Although the creature's body was nearly immobile, the soul dominating it was powerful.

He gazed at the healthy but immobilized body before him, and the vacant look in his eyes instantly erupted with a fierce desire to live.

He struggled, taking what felt like an eternity before he finally completed the match.

To his immense disappointment, however, despite winning the match, he did not transform into the other man's likeness.

After a moment of shock, he understood why.

Because the match hadn't been fair.

An external force had interfered with the contest...

Therefore, the result was invalid!

Connecting this to the sudden appearance of someone who wasn't originally an islander, he instantly realized there was someone else hiding on the island!

And what's more...

This ability to immobilize a person... it was very likely the work of a legendary immortal master!

At this thought, his heart pounded with excitement.
