      The thing that makes it iffy is that a time machine really is a tool to get information, information which would probs be written in the book. I am subscribing to my “he is going to learn magic here” theory, so the same issue arises with a grimoire, but maybe it is going to actually be an item that allows him to use magic despite his bad constitution, something like “Dragon’s Blood.”
