Chapter 205-2: The Art of Language (2) |
Behind it, under the Earthmind Evil Spirit’s instruction, the Evil Eye extended a tendril to interface with God King and transmitted the perception feed.
In the visuals, the joint warband without God King had become chaotic. Players could only conduct battle command through the permissions of sub-group channels.
Seeing this, God King decisively opened warband mute mode.
Then he sighed helplessly.
“Brothers, let me explain the situation. I was captured by Earthmind Bully. My perception cannot reach the battlefield here and I can only observe through the shared view of the Earthmind Evil Spirit.”
Immediately, several voices sounded in his mind.
“God King, you are truly tragic. When the map showed you at the Evil Eye’s tower segment I knew something big had happened.”
“Dog God King, do you not know there is a rule in chess that the general and marshal cannot face each other. You crossed the line.”
“Earthmind Bully is too much. It is even using a strategy of capturing our commander. If it keeps evolving like this it will take off. I do not allow such a badass to exist in the starter village. Kill it.”
“Good good good, our commander has already captured the enemy Bully alive. Spread the word, we have won big.”
“Hurry, go post on the forum to celebrate. Say God King obtained supreme power, tore the void, and descended upon the Evil Eye’s high tower. Now he has Earthmind Bully pinned down.”
—
Listening to the voices in the warband, God King felt helpless.
Although his capture caused not a small disturbance, it had in fact not affected the mentality of players in the warband.
Many voices were still joking and teasing him.
This was exactly what was special about players.
Put this problem on other races, and with their own commander captured, the sky would have fallen.
But they were players.
No matter how disadvantageous the situation, the lower bound had long been locked.
It was merely a one-hour revival cooldown.
Unless Earthmind Bully could follow the network cable into reality and behead their flesh.
But that was clearly impossible.
Raising his head, God King looked at the Earthmind Evil Spirit.
“Bully, what is the meaning of sharing the battlefield view.”
“Nothing much. I want you to witness the annihilation of the player legion with me.”
“It is only a temporary defeat, not annihilation.”
“Indeed.” The Earthmind Evil Spirit agreed with God King’s viewpoint. It had never thought that after this victory it could completely rid itself of the entanglement of the player race.
At this moment in the visuals, the offensive rhythm of the player legion had become extremely chaotic.
It had already tended toward free war mode.
Other commanders could only conduct small-scale command. Having never had battlefield level command experience, they were fundamentally unable to fill God King’s position.
Facing a one-sided rout, God King suddenly thought of a question.
Earthmind Bully was up to no good.
After laying the groundwork for a long time earlier, it suddenly shared his command view now, in the name of witnessing the annihilation of the player race.
In fact, it was very likely conducting some kind of test.
For example, Earthmind Bully wanted to know his effective command distance, testing after sharing the view whether he could still have influence on the distant player legion.
What God King did not know was that his thought was exactly what the Earthmind Evil Spirit had in mind.
This was probing whether, after the distance was extended, the commander of the player race could still exert influence on the battlefield.
But more important than observing the influence distance was detecting the frequency of mental fluctuations produced during internal communication of the player race.
On the battlefield, mental perceptions stacked in layers, making it impossible to detect which mental fluctuation belonged to the commander of the player race.
But on the Evil Eye’s high tower platform, there was no external interference.
As long as the commander of the player race attempted to establish a link using mental connection, it might be able to find the mental connection frequency.
With a clear record of the mental frequency, in future confrontations with the player race it might even be able to connect to this mental link frequency and eavesdrop on the player race’s next course of action.
Although it enjoyed the joy of victory from the player race’s rout, it would not go so far as to use this method to sublimate joy.
At this time God King clearly had not realized this and was still continuing to communicate with players in the warband.
But in this process not a trace of mental fluctuation emerged.
In fact, the mental fluctuations perceived by the Earthmind Evil Spirit on the battlefield all came from the perception waves released by Owl-Headed Fiend players, rather than internal communication under mental link state.
After waiting for a long time and finding that there were still no mental power fluctuations appearing on the commander of the player race, the Earthmind Evil Spirit still chose to wait patiently.
Seeking any possible flaws in the player race.
Just then, God King took the initiative to speak.
He raised his head and looked at the Earthmind Evil Spirit hovering before him.
“Bully, I know you are up to no good.”
“Why do you say that.”
“Based on my understanding of you, once you have enjoyed yourself that should be enough. There is absolutely no need to go the extra mile and share the battlefield view, so you definitely want to get something from me.”
Upon hearing this, the Earthmind Evil Spirit nodded without any attempt to conceal its thoughts.
“Correct. Seems the test failed.”
With that, its tone suddenly shifted.
“Before ending, I have one last question.”
“Ask, though I might not answer.” God King nodded in cooperation.
“I am very curious as to what kind of ability you players have mastered. Based on the war information I have recorded, there are many faces that appear repeatedly among your players, this proves you possess a revival ability.”
“Moreover, just now you said based on your understanding of me, which proves that you had contact with me before and are quite familiar with the way I act. You have clearly not faced me for the first time, yet in several instances I annihilated the incoming player warbands and there were essentially no survivors. This seems to corroborate that you possess a revival ability.”
“Of course, possessing a revival ability is normal. There are not a few races in Monster World with similar abilities. What I am more curious about is which kind of ability you have mastered.”
“There is another possibility, that before being annihilated the incoming player warbands transmitted the war situation to the rear. You learned about me through intelligence.”
“But I still lean more toward your possessing a special revival ability.”
“What is your conjecture.” God King asked in return.
“My conjectures are threefold.”
“The first conjecture is a revival similar to a cloning state. Each warrior who dies in war is reborn as a cloned warrior and continues to be delivered to the battlefield, but the former in essence has already died.”
“The second conjecture is that you are merely a type of troop generated by a backstage power, just like the Black Tide Evil Entities I create. They are all troop templates of identical appearance, but Evil Entities do not have as much independent intelligence as you players.”
“The third conjecture is that your consciousness may have been uploaded to a shared consciousness network. The body is only a temporary container carrying consciousness. When the body dies, the consciousness immediately transfers to a new container, or is temporarily stored in the network awaiting reassignment. Through the uploading and downloading of consciousness, you can achieve immortality in different bodies and continue to participate in battle. The Soul Return race recorded in the node information library possesses a similar ability.”
“So, what’s the answer.”
When the Earthmind Evil Spirit asked, it did not expect the commander of the player race to give an answer. Instead, it examined his facial changes.
With each proposition, it looked for subtle changes in the commander’s face.
When a secret was hit upon, there might be corresponding micro reactions.
But what the Earthmind Evil Spirit could not possibly know was that even the players did not know the answer to this secret.
In the eyes of players, this was a game.
Players could revive because it was a game setting, like the underlying code that formed the world’s foundation. Since players existed, the revival setting naturally existed.
Therefore, while observing the war situation, God King’s expression did not change in the slightest.
There was no trace of the tension, caution, or even fear that should have arisen when a secret was touched.
Facing Earthmind Bully’s question, God King spoke calmly.
“The answer is, I am of the player race.”
Having obtained no clear answer through observation, the Earthmind Evil Spirit smiled and nodded.
“It is fine if you will not say. I will personally reveal the answer to this question in the future.”
With that, Black Tide energy gathered in the Earthmind Evil Spirit’s right palm.
Sensing that the conversation had ended and Earthmind Bully was preparing to act, God King decisively raised his middle finger.
“That all.”
What the middle finger represented, the Earthmind Evil Spirit naturally understood.
Having dealt with the player race for a long time, it had learned quite a few taunting lines and gestures.
The other party was clearly insulting it.
At this moment, the Evil Eye’s voice sounded in its mind.
“Earthmind, allow me to assist you.”
A torrent of entries from the player vocabulary library flashed across the Earthmind Evil Spirit’s mind. Then it raised its left hand and showed a middle finger to God King, and said with disdain.
“Your mother is dead, you stupid piece of trash.”
God King: …
Before he could retort, the Earthmind Evil Spirit’s right arm suddenly slammed down and the energy brewing in its palm erupted.
As God King’s blood pressure soared, his vision was instantly shrouded in darkness and he jumped to the small dark room.
“Damn, I did not even get to curse back yet.”
