Chapter 144-2: Core of the System, Striving to Cross Upstream (2) |
Browsing forum information, Qi Sheng discovered that the popularity of a science popularization strategy post was rising at an astonishing speed and soon shot to the top of the forum hot list.
[A Popular Science Explainer on Star Vein Levels, Body Tempering Levels, and Star Vein Pairings.]

Recently I noticed many newbies asking which is stronger, star vein combinations that improve multiple inherited souls or the monster build that improves a single inherited soul.
I only want to tell you that the monster build is strong only in the early stage. Its late-stage strength is not worth looking at. Newbies, do not be misled by monster-build players.
Here I will popularize why star vein combinations become stronger the later it gets.
Before the explanation, you need to understand one thing. The core viewpoint of monster-build players is always that cultivating multiple inherited souls is difficult and not as easy as cultivating a single one, but this viewpoint is wrong, and wildly wrong.
They clearly have not figured out what the core setting of the game is.
Take the Owl-Headed Fiend as an example.
A level 1 Owl-Headed Fiend has a perception radius of 50 meters. A level 2 Owl-Headed Fiend inherited soul has a perception radius of 75 meters. Raising 1 level increases the perception radius by 25 meters. Later on, as the inherited soul level grows, the increase in perception range per level will rise substantially.
Suppose a level 1 Owl-Headed Fiend paired with a level 2 Qi Eater yields a perception radius of 56 meters.
Some newbies will certainly feel confused. Where did the extra 6 meters of radius come from?
Here we must mention a core setting in the game: attribute amplification of inherited soul effects.
The Owl-Headed Fiend’s perception range, in addition to the inherited soul level, is affected by the mental power attribute. The higher the mental power attribute, the higher the additional perception range.
It is just not as high as the increase brought by the inherited soul’s own level growth.
Therefore many inherited souls, once embedded, do not need their levels raised at all, or only need to be raised a few levels casually to be usable.
Take my star vein combination as an example: Inkflame (level 39), Qi Eater (level 23), Flowing Shadow (level 22), Extreme Speed (level 8), Bind (level 5), Owl-Headed Fiend (level 1).
I have opened 6 star vein slots, among which the Owl-Headed Fiend has always been level 1.
But do you know what my perception range is when I activate the Owl-Headed Fiend trait?
Answer: a perception radius of 155 meters.
Aside from the initial 50 meters, the perception coverage is all additional enhancement brought by the mental power attribute.
Up to this point, brothers, do you understand?
Not all inherited souls need focused cultivation and leveling. As long as the trait is useful, embedding it is enough.
The only judgment players need to make is whether what affects an inherited soul’s trait effect is vitality or mental strength. Everything else is not a problem.
The increase in mental strength brought by my strengthening of Inkflame can radiate to enhance other inherited souls. This is the game’s core setting.
So when monster-build players say that many inherited souls are hard to cultivate, that is purely misleading newbies.
Let me put it this way. In the later stage, without reinforcement rules for the monster build, this build is the lowest among all builds. Where would growth potential come from.
If we must speak of the shortcomings of star vein builds, there is only one, which is that star vein levels are expensive.
As for the cost of raising body tempering levels, that is not a problem at all.
The process of raising body tempering levels can bring attribute increases, so this expense itself is strengthening your own power.
But raising star vein levels is different. This is an ever-increasing expense.
Opening the second star vein slot costs 500 sacrificial power, the third costs 1,000 sacrificial power, and by the seventh star vein the cost reaches 16,000 sacrificial power, with the cost increasing the further you go.
Therefore the greatest expenditure for players who run star vein combination builds is not body tempering levels, but star vein levels.
With body tempering level 3, having three primary upgraded inherited souls is about enough for the early stage, but star vein levels become more and more expensive the higher they go. This is where the charm of the star vein combination playstyle lies. Monster-build players, please do not mislead newbies.
I am lazy and did not want to post a guide, but seeing a bunch of monster-build players calling newbies to join their monster build, I really could not hold back.
Comments:
Raging Chicken: Liked and supported. Your point is something not only newbies but many veterans have not realized. In star vein combination builds, star vein level is the core, yet many players think body tempering level is the core. I can only say body tempering is an all-round improvement, while star veins are a super improvement unique to combination play.
I Am Old Six: Thanks for the guide post. I have been a veteran for two months. I have four star vein slots now and am still burying my head in raising body tempering level. Seems I got the cart before the horse. So star veins are actually the mainstream of our playstyle, and you can boost inherited soul trait performance through attributes.
May the Holy Light Be With You (thread owner) replies to I Am Old Six: Raising body tempering level is not a loss. You will have to raise it in the later stage no matter what. For example, for the spellcaster’s Qi Eater inherited soul, the recovery effect brought by mental power amplification is far inferior to the effect brought by raising the Qi Eater inherited soul level.
Meme Chancellor: Post bookmarked and liked. This problem really exists. The importance of star vein levels is badly underrated on the forum. Only in the early stage is body tempering level more important than star vein level, but later on the importance of star vein level far exceeds body tempering level.
Do Not Fight This Old Monk for Abbot: I do not care. Monster build is number one under heaven. I believe the officials will release reinforcement Rules for the monster build later. My monster build is destined to be invincible under heaven. Later I will stomp my foot and the earth will tremble, raise my body and blot out the sky and sun, one mouthful of spit becomes a vast sea, one sneeze splits heaven and earth, one slap shatters mountains and rivers.
Winking Little Wild Ox: Aren’t monster-build players all mounts? If your monster build is not being ridden, your monster life is incomplete. I have always believed the appearance of monster-build players is to make up for the lack of a mount function in the game (gold-farming party smug laugh.jpg).

The appearance of this popular science post correctly explained the respective characteristics of star vein levels and body tempering levels, as well as the comparison of their importance.
Just as players said, the monster build only has strong performance when the number of embedded inherited souls is small in the early stage.
In the later stage of the game, the star vein combination build will inevitably rise.
As star vein slots continue to be opened and the number of embedded inherited souls increases, the player’s strength will undergo a qualitative change.
This is the combat power increase brought by the fusion of trait power and is the core setting of the star vein combination growth system that Qi Sheng devised.
The poster truly touched on the core key of the growth system.
The monster build is playable, but ultimately it is not the core gameplay of the game. The combat power increase it brings will later open a significant gap compared with the star vein combination playstyle.
As for whether territory Rules that reinforce the monster build playstyle will be contained in the future, he did not know either.
Just then, Qi Sheng suddenly thought of the world Rule brought by an outside power he saw before discovering the Rimewinter Snowfield scene: Giantification.
He turned his head to look at Guide floating at his side.
“Guide, can the Challenger System integrate the world Rule power brought by outside powers?”
[Of course it can, but the integration process will definitely consume a large amount of sacrificial power. The Challenger System we built can be understood as a growth system similar to star vein slots. Every Rule territory is an inherited soul. Although outside world Rules do not match, we can consume sacrificial power to make that Rule compatible with our Challenger System, granting players the blessing of outside world Rule power.]
[You, who have mastered Emperor’s Sign and the trace of Origin, can generate sacrificial power that transforms all things. There is nothing that cannot be done. If it cannot be done, it proves the sacrificial power is insufficient.]
Guide’s answer gave Qi Sheng a new goal.
Hereafter, every time the player legion took down a plugin-using power, the plugins they used would become growth support for the player legion.
The premise was that after taking them down, the plugin was still present.
At this moment, feedback from Guide interrupted his thoughts.
His consciousness immediately switched to the Rimewinter Snowfield scene.
