Chapter 484: Pokemon master of tactics: Chapter 484

Alex and Wattson ran almost simultaneously to their Pokémon, each holding a Hyper Potion. After they healed their Pokémon and called them back to their Poké Balls, the match continued.

The referee raised his hand. "Both trainers, send out your first Pokémon!"

Two Poké Balls opened almost simultaneously, releasing flashes of light onto the battlefield.

A Gardevoir and a Manectric appeared in the stadium at the same time.

Alex looked at the level and the number of Master Rank moves and knew that Wattson probably hadn't had these Pokémon for long.

And after seeing which moves Wattson could use, he knew immediately that he had won as long as nothing unusual happened.

"3, 2, 1, GO!"

After the referee started the match, both trainers immediately began giving their first instructions.

"C1"

"Manectric, use Thunderbolt. Also, don't look directly at Gardevoir and only aim after Gardevoir has used its move first."

Alex, hearing this, couldn't help but nod. That was a good plan that could counter Gardevoir's Master Rank Hypnosis without reducing the accuracy of his moves.

Normally, it's a bit harder for a Pokémon to hit another Pokémon with a move if you're not even allowed to look in its direction.

Both Pokémon began preparing moves as they moved simultaneously.

Gardevoir started preparing her move earlier.

Manectric and Gardevoir moved within 20 meters of each other.

Gardevoir ran towards the edge of the arena, and Manectric followed at his slightly faster speed.

Alex, seeing this, smiled and watched as Gardevoir used the Disable move to completely block the Thunderbolt, which was almost finished.

At Master Rank, Disable can easily block the move of a Pokémon of a similar level, even if it's only being prepared.

Alex knew this from other matches where he used this move, so naturally, it was his first move in his plan.

Of course, Gardevoir always had to finish her move first to have such a good effect in a fight.

Without waiting for Alex, Gardevoir began preparing her next move.

"Manectric, use Ice Fang."

Alex, seeing that this Pokémon really was only gathering Ice energy, knew immediately that the match was over.

Without the power of a combo move, Manectric was too weak and simple (moves) to win this match.

Even with a combo move using the three Innate Talent moves, Alex was relatively certain of victory, but now that he had seen that Manectric apparently couldn't even combo two moves, he knew he couldn't lose anymore.

Gardevoir used Teleport and teleported as far away from Manectric as possible.

Afterward, she immediately began preparing a new move.

Wattson, seeing this, knew immediately that he had made a mistake. Without Thunderbolt, Manectric had no Master Rank ranged move, so Teleport was very effective now.

He knew about Gardevoir's Teleport beforehand, but he still let Manectric prepare Ice Fang.

"Manectric, stop preparing Ice Fang. Cancel it and use Agility."

Alex knew it was the right answer, but now it didn't change anything.

After Disable, the match was over.

The result was exactly what Alex expected. Gardevoir used Calm Mind twice and Teleport after Manectric started running towards her after using Agility once.

Then she used Psychic three times while teleporting and was only hit once with Quick Attack and a Ice Fang.

Manectric almost completely blocked one Psychic with Protect, so it only took two hits to knock him unconscious.

Gardevoir took hardly any damage and won very easily.

Alex, who had such an easy victory, wasn't surprised or disappointed. He'd seen enough of Wattson to say that he was a good trainer.

This fight would have been closer if Disable hadn't hit Thunderbolt.

After Wattson had his Pokémon healed, he walked toward Alex, holding a diamond-colored Gym Badge as he extended his hand.

He smiled as he shook Alex's hand, saying, "Haha, you really tricked me completely. Even though I expected it, I'm still a little disappointed that I lost so easily—but that's life."

Wattson then placed the S-rank Badge into Alex's hand. "Take it. You more than deserve it."

Alex accepted the badge and briefly examined it, noticing that aside from its diamond-like color, it didn't look much different from a regular A-rank Badge.

He then looked back at Wattson and said, "Thanks. That was a good fight, and I can't say my expectations weren't met."

Wattson's smile widened as he replied jokingly, "Is that because you didn't expect much from me? Wow, you're a really mean person."

Alex gave a small grin. "You said that, not me."

Wattson burst into laughter, his shoulders shaking as his cheerful voice echoed through the arena, and the tension from the battle seemed to fade almost instantly.

Alex relaxed slightly as well, slipping the badge away while the two of them remained standing near the battlefield, talking more casually now that the match was over.

Wattson wiped a tear from the corner of his eye and said, still grinning, "You've got a sharp head on your shoulders, kid. "

Alex tilted his head slightly, a faint smile still on his face. "Coming from someone with your experience, I'll take that as a compliment."

The two continued talking for a bit, the conversation drifting between the match, small remarks about strategy, and a few lighthearted jokes.

As the two were talking, still in a relaxed mood after the match, a gym member suddenly rushed into the arena at a hurried, almost panicked pace.
