Chapter 310 |
As the elevator descended, what appeared before Jill and her companions was a massive space densely packed with cryogenic sleep pods.
“What… are these?” Everyone who saw the scene was utterly shocked.
“The Umbrella executives’ Noah’s Ark… They orchestrated all of this, intending to use the virus to wipe out all of humanity except themselves, and then reshape the world according to their vision, monopolizing the world’s resources! A flawless plan, don’t you think?” Jill, at this moment, explained the entire truth she had learned from Josh to the few survivors.
But the gritted teeth in her tone told the others just how furious she truly was.
And they were just as furious!
“…I see. Now I understand why you had us bring so much C4!” Alice’s eyes were cold as she looked at the cryogenic pods filling the entire underground space.
The others shared similar expressions.
In Jill’s group, there were no bleeding hearts.
They didn’t care whether there were any innocent or unaware individuals among these people.
“You really want to destroy this place? What a shame. You could take control of this facility, and of Isaacs and Alexia, and inherit everything from Umbrella, then use it all to benefit humanity!” Josh’s voice came through the communicator, expressing some regret to Jill.
“I know, but I don’t want to do that. If I really went down that road, I’d be afraid my heart would gradually change because of power… The very existence of a global giant like Umbrella is a mistake, so I’m not just going to destroy this place — I’m going to destroy every secret Umbrella base scattered across the world.” Jill sighed, then spoke resolutely.
Because Josh had given Jill a combat suit with sound isolation, which could be toggled on and off, she could speak to him without Alice and the others hearing her "talking to herself."
Hearing Jill’s words, Josh didn’t say much more. Since she had made her choice, he wouldn’t push her further.
“But don’t worry — before I destroy each Umbrella base, I’ll give you all the data and research… I just hope you don’t end up doing the same things Umbrella did in your own world… Well, maybe I’m overthinking it. With the technology you already have, you don’t even need Umbrella’s research to achieve that.” Jill had originally planned to say more to persuade Josh, but then she recalled the goods he had previously shown her, and she immediately turned to self-deprecating humor.
While they were talking, the elevator had reached the bottom.
At Jill’s command, JD and Kaplan went to plant the C4, while she, Alice, Matt, and Rain charged toward the location of Wesker, Isaacs, and Alexia.
During this, Isaacs — already forcefully awakened by Wesker — dispatched several heavily armed Umbrella defense squads to intercept them. But to the now fully-enhanced Jill, these elite squads, though equivalent to special forces, were no more formidable than zombies or Lickers.
As her ghostlike figure flashed by, all that was left behind were severed limbs and blood.
By comparison, the original protagonists — Alice, Matt, and Rain — could do little more than follow behind with guns and pick off what was left.
“Dr. Isaacs, nice to meet you! Bet you never thought you’d see this day, did you?” Storming into the luxurious hall, Jill slashed several of Wesker’s bullets mid-air, then cut the fake boss cleanly in half. She raised her heat-blade and pointed it coldly at Isaacs, who sat calmly on the sofa.
As for Alexia, because Jill’s group arrived so quickly and the team wasn’t led by Alice as in the original plot, Isaacs hadn’t awakened her — for a woman afflicted with progeria, her presence in a fight like this would’ve been meaningless.
“Indeed, I never expected this… But, lady, I believe we can talk. I don’t know how much your employer is paying you, but I’m sure I can pay more — how about half of Umbrella? With my research and your formidable power, we could easily share the world!” Isaacs, staring at the heat-blade and feeling its searing heat, said this with remarkable calm.
Watching the livestream through the communicator, Josh raised an eyebrow — what’s this supposed to mean? Competing with him in wealth?
“Heh, that’s a very generous offer. But unfortunately, my employer isn’t pleased. So he’s decided to send you a gift!” Jill, originally planning to mock Isaacs, suddenly had a thought and smiled as she spoke.
Her words gave Isaacs a sense of foreboding.
The next second, Jill ignored Alice, Matt, and Rain behind her, and suddenly “summoned” two genetically engineered Velociraptors in front of her.
Without hesitation, the two raptors lunged directly at the horrified Isaacs.
Facing these genetically enhanced predators, Isaacs’s personal combat analysis system became a joke — in the blink of an eye, he was brutally torn apart.
Though neither Alice nor Matt felt any sympathy for Isaacs, the extremely gory scene still made them frown slightly.
At the same time Isaacs was dismembered, a green vial dropped from his body, which Jill quickly caught.
“What is that?” Alice and Matt asked in unison when they saw the vial.
“The final, true super vaccine Umbrella prepared for themselves. Once dispersed into the atmosphere, it will neutralize the T-virus. Even if the T-virus leaks again, it won’t cause a global infection!” Jill said, shaking the vial.
“Those two monsters… they just appeared out of nowhere…” Alice pointed at the Velociraptors.
“Didn’t I say? It was a gift from my employer to Isaacs — spatial teleportation technology. Impressive, right?” Jill explained with a smile, using a pre-prepared excuse.
“Well… now that Isaacs is dead, what are you planning next?” Matt asked.
“Besides this base that holds all the Umbrella executives, there are over a dozen facilities like the Hive across the globe… I plan to destroy them all!” Jill stated.
“Sounds awesome — count me in!” Rain was the first to volunteer after hearing Jill’s plan.
“If I can, I’d like to join too!” Alice added.
“Me too…” Matt nodded.
“Glad to have you!” Jill glanced at them, thought for a moment, and agreed.
“Right, there’s still one more…” Matt pointed at Alexia’s remaining cryo-pod in the hall.
“As for her… Alice, I think there are some things you need to know. Pangu, bring out the Red Queen!” Jill said to the air after a moment’s thought.
“At your command, ma’am!” With Pangu’s gentle voice, the Red Queen’s projection appeared again in the hall.
Alexia was then awakened.
What followed was a dramatic confrontation between three women.
A few hours later, a car quietly left Raccoon City. Soon, the entire city heard a massive explosion — the Hive’s area collapsed entirely. Umbrella quickly sent personnel to seal off the zone.
But shortly after, massive amounts of evidence exposing Umbrella’s crimes, along with videos related to the Hive, began circulating online.
At first, Umbrella tried to lobby governments to take the content down but those efforts quickly stopped because internal strife broke out within Umbrella’s global branches.
The cause? The evidence online included content showing that people like Isaacs and Wesker had numerous clones operating different bases worldwide without interfering with each other.
This caused chaos.
Turns out your boss is a clone — why should I take orders from you?
The clones, meanwhile, didn’t believe they were clones and tried to eliminate other clones and disobedient subordinates.
As a result, Umbrella’s various bases descended into total chaos.
Notable cases included Wesker’s clone in Tokyo and Isaacs’s clone in Nevada, who both launched into full-on killing sprees.
During the confusion, world governments weren’t idle — they began nationalizing Umbrella’s assets under various pretexts.
Naturally, Umbrella wasn’t going to take that lying down — so they started releasing the T-virus.
But they quickly discovered that the virus they once prided themselves on was now ineffective.
Only a few bases with mutated versions of the T-virus had any effect, and even those lost the ability to spread through air, with even fluid transmission greatly weakened and easily contained.
During this process, an extremely mysterious squad appeared, attacking and destroying everything related to the Umbrella Corporation.
Under pressure from multiple sides, the Umbrella Corporation, which once nearly controlled the lifeblood of the global economy, completely collapsed.
However, even after Umbrella’s collapse, the shadow of the T-virus did not disappear.
The countries and rival companies that seized Umbrella’s assets also began researching the T-virus one after another.
Moreover, due to the unknown reasons (super serum) causing the T-virus to lose its airborne transmissibility, these people's research became even bolder.
Facing this situation, Jill, who had initially been determined to completely destroy Umbrella, also fell into regret. She could only rely on some valuable items seized from Umbrella to exchange with Josh for enhanced supplies and equipment, and established an organization called Blue Umbrella, dedicated to thoroughly eradicating all research related to T-virus bioweapons!
Of course, all of this is a story for later.
As the man behind Jill, Josh, after the events in Raccoon City ended, apart from some routine transactions with Jill, paid no further attention to that world.
After all, he was in a hurry to return to the U.S. to attend his own company’s anniversary celebration.
Josh, upon returning to the U.S., kept a very low profile. Aside from a few insiders, the outside world knew almost nothing.
After all, with the establishment of the Austrian United Kingdom, the relationship between Austria and the U.S. had become increasingly delicate.
In such a situation where less is better than more, Josh naturally didn’t intend to make a big fuss. He even planned to gradually retreat behind the scenes in the future.
However, for some of his own people, the matter between the two countries was no big deal.
These so-called “own people” were, of course, the Hydra Council!
“Josh, well done! This world will ultimately be ours!” In the club, old friends he hadn’t seen in a long time—such as Hugh Jones, who had now become the vampire progenitor of the U.S.—all gave Josh a big hug.
To them, Josh’s control of the newly rising and powerful Austrian United Kingdom was clearly more beneficial than harmful to Hydra.
After the greetings, the group of Hydra heads began discussing some recent changes and their next action plans.
To be precise, although Hydra had made great progress over the years due to international developments, with the world now trending toward peace, that progress had started to stagnate.
So everyone needed some special methods to continue accelerating their growth.
In short, Hydra was preparing to stir things up again.
“So you chose Vietnam?” Josh immediately understood their target—it was the Vietnam War that had been going on for over a decade!
“That’s right. As our organization’s older generation of military personnel are gradually retiring, we need more fresh blood. But starting a world war would be unwise, so we need a prolonged regional conflict!” said Hugh Jones.
“Great proposal!” Josh raised both hands and feet in agreement. Come to think of it, wasn’t his godson Ross rising to prominence in the Vietnam War? It was a perfect chance to give him a push from behind and see if he could climb even higher than in the original timeline!
Playing a development game is quite fun.
Come to think of it, aside from a brief meeting in the U.S. when he returned from space, Josh hadn’t seen Ross in two years. He wondered how the kid was doing now. He should be in high school by now, right?
And Norman Osborn, that kid should be growing up too.
Before, since the kids were still young, Josh had only provided some support and convenience to their families and hadn’t really paid much attention to the growth of his two godsons. Now was a good time to make some arrangements.
Even though they were just godsons, still—no matter what, he couldn’t let them be bullied by those so-called superheroes in the future, right?
