Chapter 123: Temporal Rift

Before he could finish speaking, the entire spherical space shook violently. The star map on the dome began to twist, and the bronze hourglass exploded with a thunderous crash. The scattered starlight burned countless miniature black holes into the air. Those tiny black holes greedily devoured everything around them. The metal walls emitted agonized groans under the unbearable pressure, and tiny cracks spread out like spiderwebs.

Jonas lunged toward the control panel at the last moment, pressing the Life Seed onto the largest gear. The ancient runes on the gear's surface suddenly lit up, and the light rapidly spread along the gear's grooves, forming a complex energy matrix. The Life Seed hovered in the center of the matrix, emitting a gentle yet resolute glow, creating a stark contrast against the raging darkness around it.

“Activate the temporal reconstruction program!” Jonas shouted hoarsely, his voice nearly breaking amid the intense tremors. His hands rapidly pounded the control panel, large beads of sweat rolling down his forehead, but his eyes burned with unwavering determination.

The world shattered and reassembled before his eyes. The broken star map transformed into countless points of light, streaking through the distorted space like meteors. The miniature black holes attracted one another, merging into a massive vortex whose powerful gravity tore the spherical space into fragments. Jonas felt his body being pulled by an invisible force, every inch of his skin aching as if being torn apart.

The light from the Life Seed grew brighter and brighter. Within the glow, faint images of ancient scenes emerged: vast primordial forests, rushing rivers, shimmering stars... These scenes resembled fragments of memories, piecing together a once vibrant world. The light gradually condensed into a column that shot straight toward the dome, colliding head-on with the dark vortex.

The violent energy collision produced a dazzling brilliance. Jonas instinctively closed his eyes. When he opened them again, he found himself in an unfamiliar space. Strange objects floated around him: shattered building ruins, glowing plant seeds, and even remnants of creatures frozen in time and space. These objects seemed fixed in a moment, quietly telling their past stories.

Jonas glanced down at the control panel in his hands. The display flickered with unstable light, showing a string of garbled code. He knew that although the temporal reconstruction program had been activated, it clearly had not fully succeeded. This place was neither the original world nor the anticipated new spacetime, but a chaotic domain caught in between.

“Is anyone there?” Jonas tentatively called out. His voice echoed through the empty space but received no response. He took a deep breath and began exploring this unfamiliar space. The ground beneath his feet felt illusory; every step was like stepping on clouds, unstable and drifting.

Suddenly, a shadow flashed before his eyes. Jonas immediately became alert and reached for the weapon at his waist. The shadow appeared again, and this time he saw it clearly—it was a floating creature emitting a faint blue light, its form somewhere between human and spirit.

“Who are you?” Jonas asked loudly, his voice laced with caution.

The creature stopped and spoke with an ethereal voice, “I am the guardian of this temporal rift, waiting here for countless epochs.” Its voice seemed to come from a distant horizon, carrying a sense of weariness and desolation.

“Where is this place? Why didn’t the Life Seed’s power reconstruct a complete world?” Jonas urgently pressed.

The guardian slowly floated closer, the blue glow illuminating the surrounding space. “This is a rift in time and space, remnants left after all parallel universes collided. Although the Life Seed’s power is immense, it is difficult to fully repair such a chaotic spacetime structure.” It paused, then continued, “Moreover, when you activated the program, the bronze hourglass’s explosion released an ancient evil force. It is attempting to devour this newborn spacetime.”

Jonas’s heart tightened. He realized the challenge before him was far more severe than he had imagined. “What should we do then?”

The guardian was silent for a moment before saying, “The only way is to find the temporal fragments scattered within the rift. These fragments contain the power of various parallel universes. Collecting them and merging them with the Life Seed’s power might give us a chance. But it will not be easy—the fragments are protected by powerful barriers, and the evil force is searching for them as well.”

Jonas clenched his fists, his gaze resolute once again. “No matter how difficult it gets, I will try. My mission is to protect life, rebuild the world, and never allow the evil force to succeed.”

Guided by the guardian, Jonas began his quest to find the temporal fragments. Each area where a fragment was located was filled with danger: some places had chaotic gravity where people uncontrollably tumbled in midair; others had abnormal time flow, where minutes could equal years; some were inhabited by monsters corrupted by evil power, fiercely attacking any life form nearby.

While searching for the first temporal fragment, Jonas encountered a group of bat-like monsters. Their wings were covered in sharp spikes, and their eyes glowed blood red. They emitted piercing screams, swarming Jonas like a dark cloud. Jonas quickly raised his weapon, firing continuously. However, the monsters’ numbers were overwhelming, and he gradually felt exhausted. Just then, the guardian suddenly appeared, releasing a blue barrier that temporarily held the monsters at bay.

“These monsters have been empowered by the evil force. Ordinary attacks rarely cause fatal damage,” the guardian explained. “You need to find their weakness.”

Jonas dodged the monsters’ attacks while observing their behavior. He noticed that whenever a monster launched an attack, a scale at the base of its wings glowed faintly. “Could that be the weak point?” An idea sparked in his mind. He concentrated his firepower on those scales. Sure enough, one monster let out a painful scream, its wings shattered instantly, and it fell. Encouraged, Jonas continued targeting the weak spots on the other monsters, finally driving them away.

After a fierce battle, Jonas successfully obtained the first temporal fragment. The fragment was diamond-shaped, with mysterious patterns flowing across its surface, radiating a warm light. He carefully stored it and resumed his journey to find the other fragments.

During the search for the second temporal fragment, Jonas arrived at a mist-filled region. The mist seemed alive, constantly shifting shapes and obscuring his vision. Worse, illusions lurked within the fog, making it difficult to distinguish reality from fantasy. Jonas had to proceed cautiously, verifying his surroundings with every step.

Suddenly, he saw a familiar figure ahead—his deceased mentor. The mentor smiled and beckoned him, saying, “Jonas, follow me. This is the true home.” Jonas’s heart trembled; the mentor’s voice and appearance almost made him relent. But he quickly realized it was an illusion. “No! You are not my mentor!” he shouted, raising his weapon and shooting at the phantom. The illusion shattered instantly, but more illusions appeared around him.

Jonas closed his eyes, took a deep breath, and forced himself to calm down. He focused, relying on instinct and directional judgment to move forward. Finally, after breaking through layer after layer of mist, he saw the second temporal fragment. It was protected by a transparent energy shield covered with intricate runes.

Jonas tried attacking the shield with his weapon, but it was ineffective. He recalled the guardian saying that the barrier protecting the temporal fragments required specific energy to be broken. He calmed himself, sensing the Life Seed’s pulse within him, merging his power with the Life Seed’s, then released a beam of light toward the shield. The moment the light touched the shield, the runes began to flicker, and the barrier gradually dissipated. Jonas smoothly retrieved the second temporal fragment.

With more temporal fragments collected, Jonas drew closer to the evil force’s core. During one exploration, he felt a powerful and malevolent aura rushing toward him. Looking up, he saw a huge black figure floating in the air, its body composed of countless twisted temporal fragments, emitting a suffocating pressure.

“Do you think collecting these fragments can stop me?” the black figure rumbled in a deep, hoarse voice. “This spacetime is destined to be devoured by darkness!”

Jonas showed no fear and shouted back, “As long as I live, I will never let you succeed! The power of life will triumph over darkness!”

A decisive battle for the fate of spacetime began. Jonas mobilized the Life Seed and the collected temporal fragments’ power to fiercely confront the black figure. Every energy clash triggered intense tremors, shaking the entire temporal rift. The black figure continuously unleashed dark energy, trying to consume Jonas and his power, while Jonas relied on his tenacious will and faith in life to overcome each crisis.

At the critical moment in battle, Jonas suddenly realized that only by fully merging all the temporal fragments with the Life Seed could he unleash the greatest power. He concentrated all his energy, guiding the fragments and the Life Seed’s energy to converge. The light grew brighter and brighter, forming a massive energy sphere. Jonas pushed the energy sphere toward the black figure, and the tremendous impact instantly engulfed it.

With a thunderous explosion, the dark force was completely crushed. The temporal rift began to calm, and the broken space gradually healed. Jonas looked at the changes around him and showed a relieved smile. With the guardian’s help, he used the remaining power to begin reconstructing the world, following the Life Seed’s guidance.

The light faded, and a brand-new world appeared before his eyes. Vast land stretched out, covered by green vegetation on every inch. Clear rivers meandered through the terrain, and vibrant clouds floated in the sky. Various creatures grew freely on this land, full of vitality and energy.

Jonas stood atop a mountain, gazing at this reborn world, his heart filled with a sense of accomplishment. He knew all the effort was worthwhile. And he would continue to protect this hard-won world, letting the light of life shine forever.

Signs of a Dark Surge

The breeze in the new world carried the scent of fresh grass, brushing against Jonas’s clothes. Still recovering from the shock of world reconstruction, the ground beneath his feet suddenly cracked with fine fissures. The cracks, like awakening silver snakes, spread toward the horizon in eerie arcs. Wherever they passed, newly sprouted seedlings withered instantly, and dew droplets crystallized into dark purple ice.

“The aftershocks of temporal reconstruction shouldn’t be this violent,” the guardian’s phantom suddenly became transparent, wisps of black mist seeping from its blue glow. “Although the core of the evil force was destroyed, fragments of its will have seeped into the fabric of spacetime.” Before the words finished, ink-black smoke rose from the distant forest. Birds that should have been chirping turned to ashes, freezing in midair into grotesque skull patterns.

Jonas immediately took out the collected temporal fragments. The diamond-shaped crystals, once shining with hopeful light, were now covered with cobweb-like gray patches. He pressed the fragments close to his chest, attempting to purify them with the Life Seed’s power, but the fragments emitted a sharp, sorrowful wail, as if countless restless souls were struggling inside.

An even more terrifying anomaly occurred in the sky. The originally clear firmament cracked open with three bloody fissures. Thick black substance dripped from them, corroding the ground into bottomless pits wherever it touched. Suddenly, a gigantic claw, dark enough to blot out the sun, reached out from the cracks. Its scales burned with eerie green ghost flames, each nail like a shattered obsidian mountain peak.

“This is the remnant of the Abyssal Lord!” the guardian’s voice trembled with unprecedented fear. “When the bronze hourglass exploded, it not only released the evil will but also awakened the ancient monster sealed at the bottom of the temporal rift!” The giant claw slammed down with a thunderous crash. Jonas barely rolled away to avoid it, while the newly rebuilt village behind him was instantly crushed to dust.

Jonas’s pupils contracted fiercely with anger. He pressed all the temporal fragments against the Life Seed’s surface. The rune matrix lit up again, but this time the light was mixed with unstable dark radiance. The energy column shot toward the bloody fissures but was corroded into ash the instant it touched the giant claw. The Abyssal Lord roared deafeningly, shaking the earth within a hundred-mile radius, causing it to sink.

In this crisis, Jonas suddenly remembered the guardian’s words about the “fabric of spacetime.” He looked at the spreading cracks on the ground and noticed the gray patches flickering in sync with the monster’s movements. “These cracks are wounds in spacetime and also channels connecting to the Abyss!” He immediately commanded the guardian to use the blue barrier to temporarily trap the giant claw while he sprinted along the fissures.

In the ruins, Jonas discovered a glowing altar. The altar was embedded with five gems of different colors, each emanating an aura originating from the same source as the temporal fragments. When he inserted the collected fragments into the slots, the altar rumbled and rose, revealing a base inscribed with ancient texts. Jonas summoned the Life Seed’s power to interpret them. Cold sweat instantly soaked his back—the reconstruction of this world was only a trap set by the evil force, and the awakening of the Abyssal Lord was the true killer move.

At that moment, the bloody fissures in the sky had expanded to cover half the horizon. The Abyssal Lord broke free from the barrier, opening its giant mouth lined with barbs, ready to swallow the entire world. Jonas had no time to hesitate. He embedded the Life Seed into the altar’s core and forcibly guided the fusion of five kinds of temporal energy. The altar exploded with blinding light as five beams shot toward the sky, intertwining into a massive sealing formation at the bloody fissures.

The monster let out an unwilling roar. Its giant claw wildly tore at the seal. Jonas felt his life force rapidly drained, but he gritted his teeth and continuously injected power. The ground cracks began to heal in reverse, and the gray patches gradually faded under the seal’s glow. Just as the Abyssal Lord was about to break through the seal, Jonas summoned his last strength, transforming the Life Seed’s primal power into an arrow, shooting it straight into the monster’s heart.

With a thunderous blast, the Abyssal Lord’s body shattered into countless fragments, and the bloody fissures in the sky quickly closed. Jonas collapsed, exhausted, watching the Life Seed’s fading light, knowing it had expended all its power. The guardian’s phantom became increasingly transparent: “This crisis is resolved, but the evil will still roams the temporal rift. You…” Before finishing, the guardian’s figure completely vanished, leaving behind a softly glowing blue crystal.

Jonas pocketed the crystal and gazed at the now peaceful world. The newborn sun rose from the horizon, illuminating his tired yet resolute face. He knew this would not be the last battle, but as long as the spark of life remained, he would never give up protecting it.

With this conviction, Jonas embarked on a new journey. He would search across the world for the scattered guardian fragments, mend the wounds of spacetime, and explore the ultimate secrets hidden behind the bronze hourglass. The wind swept through his hair, and the cries of new life echoed in the distance, heralding an impassioned prelude to this never-ending war of protection.
