Chapter 56: If I let you escape today, I'll eat my hat

...

Watching Jonas's sudden offensive,

Katdera's eyes widened in shock instantly.

Such imposing aura—

This is Frost Silver rank?!

Impossible!!!

How could a young lord like Jonas possibly be Frost Silver?

Even the governor's strongest personal guard only reached Frost Silver in strength.

And how old was Jonas?

Katdera had specifically investigated Jonas before.

He hadn't even reached twenty yet.

No wonder.

Jonas could take Evelos's head right through thousands of troops.

This man hid his strength so deeply—Evelos's defeat wasn't unjust at all!

...

Thoughts flashed like lightning through her mind.

But the current situation left no room for Katdera to think further.

The terrifying sword energy carried by her opponent was already at her face.

Katdera retreated frantically.

Her body merged into the darkness with the help of her own energy burst.

Like a venomous snake disappearing into bamboo groves,

she attempted to evade Jonas's attack.

Yet Jonas's chaotic sword energy still managed to land a hit on Katdera.

Under this sword energy, her eyes widened instantly as her mind went blank momentarily.

Splat—

A streak of blood sprayed out.

Strangely enough,

despite suffering such a terrifying attack, she flew out like a leaf caught in a gale,

landing perfectly back through the already shattered window.

Her flawless movement technique left Jonas momentarily unable to track her.

"What the hell?"

The next moment,

shattered glass swirled and gathered in Katdera's hands.

Gritting through intense pain,

she threw the glass shards at Jonas like arrows using a special technique.

Clatter—

Jonas's Whirlwind Slash formed an impenetrable defense.

The falling glass fragments reflected dazzling glimmers under the lightning flashes,

creating an oddly magnificent scene.

Yet Katdera didn't even glance at Jonas.

Stepping on the windowsill,

she turned and fled.

Having failed her assassination attempt, she had no intention of prolonging the fight.

Though Jonas's strike had left her in quite a sorry state.

...

Watching her movements, Jonas's expression turned fierce.

Failed to assassinate me and still thinks she can escape?

Damn it!

If not for having raised Olivia's Loyalty to 70%, gaining fourteenfold ability returns,

plus Olivia's recent improvement in magic crystal energy

that helped him break through to Frost Silver rank swordsmanship,

he would truly be in danger this moment.

That sudden attack would have been impossible to defend against without Eyes of Desire.

Letting such an assassin escape? He'd never sleep peacefully again!

...

Without the slightest hesitation, Jonas stomped forward like a gust of wind,

his coldly gleaming longsword thrusting straight ahead,

swearing to cut this woman in half.

Yet as Jonas pressed forward, momentarily distracted—

Danger struck again in that instant.

Just as Katdera's body was about to exit through the window,

several pitch-black throwing knives shot toward Jonas under the cover of the rainy night.

Katdera had actually twisted her airborne body at an impossible angle,

launching the knives with a special technique.

Seemingly fleeing, yet unleashing another round of unpredictable lethal attacks—

completely catching him off guard.

The black knives flew straight toward Jonas's eyes,

nearly escaping his notice.

What a pain!

This assassin!

He could tell her strength was far inferior to his own.

Yet she exploited every opportunity with perfect precision and cunning,

making her utterly unpredictable.

Without Eyes of Desire, magic artifacts, and Frost Silver swordsmanship,

an ordinary person would've died countless times already.

...

Jonas's eyes narrowed as his sword slashed forward violently.

In that instant, magical power surged through his body into the blade.

The originally dull sword edge now flickered with flames as if ignited.

The firelight illuminated the surrounding darkness,

revealing the rapidly approaching lethal knives.

The knives cut through the air with sharp whistles,

streaking like lightning toward Jonas's vitals.

Yet Jonas reacted with lightning speed—his flaming sword intercepted each knife precisely.

The clanging of metal echoed through the silent room

as knives and sword collided with crisp "ping pang" sounds,

leaving one breathless at this heart-stopping scene.

Jonas intended to press his advantage and capture the assassin.

But just as he prepared to strike,

he suddenly noticed the trajectory of the last knife and tensed up.

This final knife wasn't aimed at him at all—

it was flying straight toward the defenseless Liliana behind him!

Jonas's face darkened.

"Damn it!"

Without hesitation, he turned and threw his sword like a shooting star.

The blade traced a brilliant arc through the air,

chasing down the knife with deadly precision.

At the last possible moment before the knife struck Liliana,

the sword caught up with a resounding "clang!"

The tremendous impact forcibly altered the knife's path,

sending it embedding deep into the wooden headboard with a solid "thunk!"

Jonas exhaled slightly in relief.

With a wave of his right hand,

a powerful energy burst recalled the thrown sword effortlessly back to his grip.

The blade traced a graceful arc through the air before landing securely in his hand.

Meanwhile, the storm raged through the open window unabated,

rain and wind whipping the curtains into wild flutters.

Jonas looked toward the window—

the black-clad assassin was long gone.

Jonas exhaled deeply,

his eyes ice-cold.

"You took one of my strikes.

If I let you escape today, I'll eat my hat."
