Chapter 22: Identity

"It's that thing!"

Zhou Chen immediately reacted. He held the iron rod and charged towards the spot where Little Li had fallen, attacking the attacker he had sensed.

However, there was still some distance between them. Even though Zhou Chen's movements were very fast, he did not manage to hit the target.

His high spiritual perception quickly confirmed that the other party was not within five meters of him. Through observing the trembling of the stones on the ground, he determined that the other party had most likely left in the direction of a fork in the distance.

"It gave up on attacking me. Did it know that it would be sensed if it got close to me? Haha, don't let me catch you."

Looking at the girl who had lost her life in the dark and silent cave, Zhou Chen felt anger in his heart.

This unknown enemy had fooled him twice. The last time, it had almost taken his life, and this time, it had killed a girl who had sought his protection. Even though he had no thoughts of protecting her, he felt very upset that it was able to kill her so fast before he noticed it.

Zhou Chen turned Little Li's corpse around with the iron rod and looked at the wound. He found that the wound on her neck was deep and neat, as if it had been inflicted by a sharp weapon.

"Could that invisible thing be a human?"

He thought to himself.

"It is possible. Its actions are very intelligent, very different from ordinary monsters."

Zhou Chen determined the identity of the invisible enemy and immediately had a suspect.

Soon, he left the place, bid farewell to Little Li's corpse, and went toward the direction of the invisible attacker.

He planned to try running into that guy again. The other party had ambushed him several times, and he could not let it go.

After moving past the winding tunnel and entering the fork, he chose a direction and began his new exploration.

He had been maintaining his sensing state. As long as that invisible person dared to appear near him, it would not be able to escape.

Fifteen minutes passed, but he did not encounter any humans. Instead, he encountered some new monsters.

They were three bat-like monsters the size of washbasins. When they saw Zhou Chen walking over, they immediately screamed and flapped their wings as they charged at him.

Seeing that there were only three of them, Zhou Chen chose to fight.

His strength had increased by a lot due to the Giant Strength passive skill. His high spirit and agility allowed him to have excellent perception and reaction speed. It did not take much effort to kill these three bats. He directly insta killed one with a heavy strike with the iron rod, then insta killed another while dodging the attack. The last one also quickly died under his iron rod.

[You have killed the Cave Bat. Reward: 1 Healing Potion (Low Bronze)]

After killing the three bat monsters, Zhou Chen realized that they had actually dropped a bottle of potion.

"My luck seems to have risen."

He immediately opened the inventory space and checked the description of the dropped potion.

[Healing Potion

Type: Low Bronze potion

This potion can heal light and moderate injuries within a minute, and it has a good effect on ordinary illnesses.

Prompt: The more you drink, the faster the healing effect will be.]

"This thing is not bad. Even if I don't use it, I can exchange it for money. The price should not be low."

Zhou Chen had some injuries on his body, but they were basically minor injuries. They were nothing to him, who had the Life Recovery passive skill, so he did not immediately drink this healing potion.

He continued walking along the tunnel. After a monotonous journey, he entered a fork. After walking for a while in the new tunnel, he encountered a Survivor.

It was the tall girl who had called herself Liu. Her saber was unsheathed, and her clothes were stained with blood. There was a thin line of blood on her face, as if she had experienced a fierce battle.

When she saw Zhou Chen, she looked at him coldly as if she was examining something.

Zhou Chen was also watching her. He felt that she was in a bad mood because she might have suffered a loss in the fight.

"You were also ambushed by that invisible person?"

After the two of them got closer, Zhou Chen asked her.

"Yeah."

The tall girl was still succinct.

"Have you found out his true identity?"

Zhou Chen asked.

"No, but he's definitely not you."

The tall girl replied.

'In that case…'

"According to my speculation, that person is most likely the one who called himself Little Qiang."

Zhou Chen's intuition told him that this girl in front of him did not seem to be someone who would launch a sneak attack. After considering some of the behaviors the Survivors showed at the start and the information obtained from Little Li, he judged that the invisible person was most likely Little Qiang.

"It's not him, he's already dead."

However, the tall girl shook her head.

"Dead?"

Zhou Chen was surprised.

"Could that person not be a Survivor? Or are there more than five Survivors this time?"

He felt that things had become complicated.

"Hmm… it's most likely a Survivor who has been hiding since the beginning."

The tall girl nodded slightly.

"Really?"

Zhou Chen did not fully believe it.

"Then why is he always invisible?"

"It might be some rare talent…"

The tall girl frowned.

"It's indeed possible…"

Zhou Chen felt that this explanation was reasonable. He had already obtained a powerful talent like the Passive Plunderer, there was no reason for others to not have unique talent. There must be some with very powerful talent.

The two stopped talking.

The tall girl walked straight to a stone wall and sat down, still holding her saber tightly.

Zhou Chen saw that she seemed to be resting and quickly left.

After walking through some cave tunnels and killing some ordinary monsters, he found a corpse near a stone wall.

It was the thin and tall young man's corpse. When Zhou Chen found him, his body had been eaten by some monsters. He could only determine the identity and cause of death from the dark-green rotting face.

"He was poisoned to death? Did he encounter the Swift Snake?"

Zhou Chen wanted to see some fang marks on his body, but they had long been gnawed away, and only his bones were visible.

"To think I thought you were that invisible person. So you're really weak…"

This Survivor's death was very tragic. After Zhou Chen determined the cause of death, he quickly left.

His stamina was slightly spent but he still did not find the invisible person. After walking through two more passages, he found a stone and sat down to rest.

While in the Survival mission, the system's chat, forum, trading area, and other sections could not be accessed. Friends could only communicate in the same dungeon. At this moment, he could only slowly pass the time. At most, he would look at his character interface or inventory.

He planned to try running into that guy again. The other party had ambushed him several times, and he could not let it go.

So he doesn't realize that getting an invisibility ability would be the most op shit right now? And should be priority one. Seriously?

He illogically got angry because of that girl's death. I hope that the mc wouldn't act like a hero for weak people. Like children that need care, elderly people or weak women. He illogically got angry because of that girl's death. It's none of his business, why would he care?

He did not illogically got angry. What do you mean? He got angry because he cant do anything when he is supposed to be protecting her. He mentioned its okay if she can keep up. They didnt even started and yet she got killed right in front of him. A few meters to be exact. The moment she talked with her and agreed to something she already have something to with him.

I mean that he doesn't know her. Even if she was an acquaintance, why would he care? She's not anybody important. And why is he supposed to be protecting her? Does he owe her something? He's trying to be a hero for no reason. The hypocritical righteous belief, it's just untasteful.

I get it when you help someone when it's convenient or in the way. But getting angry to the point of action because of a random stranger is very illogical to me. I wish he was more neutral in terms of morality. I feel like those types of mcs like the one here always try to help people fully knowing they're not strong enough. Only for the plot armor to kick in. My point is, why is the mc trying to be every weak person's guardian? If he was acting like that on the surface to be on the good side, I don't mind. But this is exactly how his thoughts play out, makes it hard to read sometimes

          Okay let’s answer your questions:
          1. He would care because he said that he would protect her if she could keep up.
          2. He is supposed to be protecting her because he said he would. He does because he isn’t a heartless person leaving someone to die even though they never had a choice not to participate. She isn’t even capable because it’s her first mission so she has to rely on people to survive so even that isn’t her fault.
          3. No he owed her nothing he just has morals. Let me explain it to you because it seems that it’s a foreign concept to you. It is a set of rules that you make based on your own knowledge. For some people murder is justifiable for others it’s not and that’s dependent on their morals. Most people is civilised society believe that murder isn’t justifiable and neglecting someone causing them to die is still murder. It does not matter about laws but it is based on them.

So no he is not trying to be a hero. And even if he was angry because of it to the point of action is completely understandable. He couldn’t sense the person right in front of him die. To someone he promised to protect. We have CLEARLY seen him abandon people he could have helped. Why? You might ask because they weren’t strong enough.

          4. Your final question, he is not trying to be every weak person’s guardian, he isn’t trying to be a good person. He is trying to survive. But if he comes across someone that he can afford to protect, he isn’t going to say no because it’s easier. If it doesn’t cost him to help people why wouldn’t he? Why would he abandon a person for no reason, nothing good can come of it. What if he was successful and she was super rich? He would get paid for saving her. And if she got powerful through the system he would have an ally that should side with him. But if he didn’t protect her and she survived he would have an enemy, who, as I have said, could get even more powerful through the system. The MC isn’t even that angry. If he was truly angry about her death he would have tried to chase the invisible person. He isn’t angry about her death he is angry that the invisible man got him again. That he was tricked twice.
