Chapter 106: Killing Without a Thought |
Jiang Siyuan could not fall asleep tonight.
Seeing the "ghost" again the previous night made him extremely nervous. Lying in bed, he felt like a shadowy figure could appear anywhere at any moment, so he simply stayed awake, staring blankly at the ceiling.
The longer he lay there, the more frightened he became.
The hospital at night was the perfect setting for a horror film. The silent room was enveloped in darkness, and under the faint light, everything seemed to become eerie.
Jiang Siyuan lay on the bed, too scared to move, just wishing that sleep would take him away. Even the slightest noise from the corridor would spark his imagination for five minutes.
He tried to think of other things to distract himself from the fear, but being in the hospital for so long, there wasn't much else to think about. Naturally, he thought of Guan Shan, who had been on his mind recently.
Thinking about it made Jiang Siyuan angry: "If it weren't for that so-called Master Gan framing me, would he dare give me the cold shoulder?"
He had humbly begged Guan Shan to save him, but Guan Shan acted indifferent, only giving him the name "Dr. Lu" when asked for help.
If he could seek help from the doctors, would he have been trapped in this hospital for so many days?
Once the directors made a decision, even a normal person would quickly be deemed abnormal, and any resistance would label you as a severe case with no chance of escape.
Jiang Siyuan had spent enough time in the hospital to realize that almost everyone, including most of the caretakers and doctors, seemed off.
When he called for help, everyone watched indifferently, as if they heard nothing...
Finally, Guan Shan arrived, but it was the same!
The more Jiang Siyuan thought about it, the angrier he became. Thinking about being transferred to the intensive care unit tomorrow made him even more sorrowful, reducing his fear.
"If I can return, I'll use all means to get Guan Shan fired..."
"Bang!" "Ah!"
Suddenly, a loud noise and a scream came from the next room, jolting Jiang Siyuan out of bed in terror: "Gunshots!?"
He had been to a shooting club before and knew the sound of real gunfire!
But how could there be gunshots in a hospital?
And from the sound, it was in Guan Shan's room next door! Who got shot!?
"Could it be a terrorist attack?"
Jiang Siyuan was filled with panic and fear. Hearing more noises from the next room, indicating a fight, he trembled on the floor, afraid to move.
But he feared that once the fight ended, it would spill over into his room. After hesitating, he decided to open the door and leave.
"Maybe I can escape from the hospital amidst the chaos!"
Jiang Siyuan cautiously pushed the door open and saw that the doors to the other patient rooms and rest areas in the corridor were already open. Some patients peeked out, and the caretakers were starting to come out.
Jiang Siyuan's heart raced: "I must hurry, or I'll lose my chance!"
Just as he was about to step out, the door to the next room was violently flung open.
"Bang!"
A figure rushed out from the room.
Before Jiang Siyuan could see clearly, he noticed the nurse in charge of Guan Shan, Li Hong, emerging from her rest room with an axe.
Her eyes had turned pitch black, and her body exuded black mist, as if possessed. She raised the axe and struck at the figure.
In an instant, they crossed paths, and Li Hong's head was severed.
Finally, Jiang Siyuan saw who the figure was.
"Guan...Guan Shan...?!"
Jiang Siyuan was utterly terrified, collapsing to the ground, staring at the headless corpse and swallowing hard: "You, you, you..."
Even though Li Hong had clearly been acting strange, she was the nurse who had been with Guan Shan for a week. Just a few days ago, he had seen Guan Shan chatting and laughing with this nurse, and now he had beheaded her without hesitation.
Thinking about his previous attitude towards Guan Shan, Jiang Siyuan felt a chill down his spine, almost fainting.
Guan Shan seemed to hear his voice, frowning and turning to look at him. He shook the blood off his blade, murmuring, "Trouble...so many NPCs, how to protect?"
Jiang Siyuan didn't understand, but he heard the word "protect."
Meanwhile, a blood-soaked, panicked doctor and a mass of black shadows followed Guan Shan out of the room.
From the open door of Guan Shan's room, even at a glance, Jiang Siyuan saw numerous shadowy arms like those from hell. Some of these shadows grasped the doctor's arms and the gun, as well as the black shadows.
The doctor didn't seem like a pursuer but rather a fugitive escaping from those arms.
As for the black shadow, it transformed into a human shape the moment it emerged.
This figure was all too familiar, making Jiang Siyuan's mind buzz with clarity—this was the "ghost" he had been seeing!
Guan Shan thought for a second and decided that protecting so many NPCs in this instance was too difficult. It was better to ensure he got the basic rewards.
"Forget it, killing monsters is the priority."
Shaking his head, Guan Shan noticed the monsters catching up and prepared to find a more open space to fight.
Seeing Guan Shan turning to leave and the shadowy figure approaching, Jiang Siyuan panicked and made the most correct decision of his life.
Ghost or human? Was there even a choice!
Jiang Siyuan scrambled up and threw himself at Guan Shan, almost prostrating himself, shouting, "Save me!"
Guan Shan frowned, then relaxed.
The simulator had reappeared, and according to it, saving any number of NPCs provided additional rewards, just differing in amount.
Since that was the case, trying to save one wouldn't hurt.
Guan Shan resumed his usual method, dragging Jiang Siyuan along as he fought his way out.
Jiang Siyuan was terrified and trembling.
Guan Shan's ruthless and decisive killing was like that of a skilled butcher, devoid of any emotion.
He killed as if cutting grass, the sound of severing flesh almost inaudible, showcasing his refined technique, almost like an art form.
Even when occasionally injured, his face showed no change, calm to the point of being frightening.
Each kill made the blood-red patterns on his blade glow brighter, eerily beautiful.
Jiang Siyuan, filled with fear and regret, couldn't help but think: "Who is this guy... an assassin? A mercenary? Or is he not even human?"
The same question crossed Xiang Wen's mind.
Chasing after them, Xiang Wen gradually grew tired, and Shadowman decisively said, "Go to the basement and release those experimental subjects! We can't defeat him on our own!"
Xiang Wen couldn't help but ask, "Who is he? And what was that thing earlier?"
Earlier, Guan Shan had pressed a strange drawing on the ground, and an eerie girl's laughter followed.
Immediately, countless ghostly arms emerged from the walls and even from their bodies, like vengeful spirits surrounding them, intercepting all attacks.
With the increasing number of arms, it felt like they were about to be drowned, seeing and hearing countless dead faces and whispers.
That horrifying scene was something he never wanted to experience again.
Shadowman gritted his teeth, "A huge trouble! He's an Esper from the Special Security Group. If we can't eliminate him, we're doomed!"
